Its actually an important tactic to shuffle your hand - it prevents you from giving away subtle hints of what cards or what kind of cards you're holding.
You're mistaken. Efro wanted to cast olivia the next turn, but he only has 1 red source. Casting bolt there means he can cast one of his red 4-drops the next turn and still leave up a removal spell for the second nexus. Getting olivia down was his best chance of stabilizing and winning, so his play was correct, imo.
My thoughts exactly. Would be curious as to what was going through his head, but I know my thought process when I saw the gamestate was "Ancient Grudge can only hit his Inkmoths, Bolt can hit all his Inkmoths and his other infectors... therefore, use Grudge first".
Brian Kibler is really fun, in my opinion - well, aside from the annoying shuffling - he always seems energetic and fun, always smalltalking smiling, having a good time and his commentary is absolutely golden when he joins the booth.
I may be mistaken, but don't you flashback ancient grudge to kill the Nexus, leaving lightning bolt to bolt either the creature he plays or the other nexus on the next attack before exalted triggers?? He's dead to a pump spell next turn anyway, but by doing this, he has bolt if Ari plays a non artifact infect creature
Pendelhaven can only give +1/+2 to a 1/1 creature - Inkmoth Nexus was illegal after receiving the exalted boost. The reason he didn't pump beforehand was probably because he didn't need to in order to deal lethal.
He had 2 draws to get an untapped land and play olivia with mana open for olivia + one shot or grudge. If he plays the grudge last turn he had to draw an untapped red mana to do so. That's the reasoning behind this play, and I think it is correct ...
something i never see when i watch protour is an energetic player. Ari made this video fun for me, ill admit infect can make people cocky and really dickish in a game (i speak from experience), but he's having fun in the protour, and im glad there was some conversation between the players that was unprofessional
y the heck wouldnt he use ancient grudge, even if he doesnt noe of the blighted agent he can still leave the bult for the second ink moth or the noble hierarchs !!!
he had 7 poison and blighted agent was a 1/1 unblockable but ari had 2 exalted so when he attacked with the agent he would get +2/+2 making it a 3/3 unblockable swinging in for the 10th poison counter. E fro knew it was coming so instead of going through the motions he just threw the match since he couldnt kill the agent
His only out was to cascade into Jund Charm. The Olivia in his hand was useless because Ari just Pendelhaven's whatever Efro targets. He had to Jund Charm there and follow with Olivia to wrap up the game.
Not at all. Once oliva comes down efro will be able to gun down all of ari's creatures while still having a flying blocker for a nexus/plague stinger if necessary. It's a risk, as he loses to a blighted agent, but the reward is high enough to be worth it. Playing scared/too cautiously wasn't going to win him that game; he needed to get olivia down in order to stabilize.
Or he can just play olivia + grudge mana open if the threat was anything else than a blighted agent, even without an untaped mana. To lose here he had to face a blighted agent + not draw an untapped land ...
I think it's a worse mistake to kill the Hierarch with Abrupt Decay. Ari could have a land to activate both Nexus (which he did). That would kill him but if he saved his two removal spells for Ari's infect threats he might've stabilized.
... vines of vastwood misplay at 23:32 . could win easily kicking for +4+4. also, some decisions were too risky. no signs of slaughther pact from jund player so.. yeah, i think is a pretty bad player or at least it was a bad player at that moment.
Efro's deck is worth like 6 billion dollars.
TheMagicManSam its funny because its true i mean 3 dark confidants?
Not anymore…
When the commentators didn't knew who won that game...DEVASTATING!
Efro should have killed nexus with grudge, would still have bolt to kill any other creature...
These commentators are just so oblivious this whole first match, its pretty crazy.
I was so damned confused at the end of game 2...still appreciate the great commentary/coverage

He's forced to announce all those triggers, he's not doing anything to annoy anyone, and he's certainly not cocky.
Have you read his articles? Have you stumbled upon his replies to other articles? He seems like a pretty cool guy to me.
Dat ancient grudge misplay.

pillar is a sorcery
Also with the nexus a 3/3 after exalted triggers, which did resolve when he said yes, why not just pump with the land?
Cause it only pumps 1/1s
I think it's because the agent is unblockable anyways, so doesn't really matter how he pumps it.

I want Karsten's decklist.

Should have used Ancient Grudge at 25:00 >.
I do as well, but that still doesn't change the fact that you have to respect the deck's viability and power.
Anyone know what type of sleeves ari is using?

its sorcery right?

I don't mean that, it's good he does it, it's just his presence, his expression and all, in other videos too
Man, I know I'm 7 years too late, but Sheldon is sooooo painful to listen to.
O.o pay attention if you are commenting, i was luke o,O when you said game 3 vs lax.
that forked bolt misplay cuz its a sorcery
i disagree, i mean you don't think he seems he is really happy to be there? I'm not trying to start a fight, I respectfully disagree with you.

Lol, I play Shinka in my Diachon commander deck.
Or he can just play olivia + grudge mana open if the threat was anything else than a blighted agent, even without an untaped mana. To lose here he had to face a blighted agent + not draw an untapped land ...
Ahh, never mind. Abrupt Decay doesn't kill Nexus because it's a land. In that case it was a good play, hoping to bottleneck Ari on mana.
he was dead due to double exalted triggers, he either took lethal poison or lethal combat, but he was dead either way.
He wasn’t dead to lethal normal combat, he was at 6 and the noble could only deal 2
Haha, I was like, what did I miss??
wow the casters are a bit off
Didn't see the one red source, still seems like an iffy play
I think it's a worse mistake to kill the Hierarch with Abrupt Decay. Ari could have a land to activate both Nexus (which he did). That would kill him but if he saved his two removal spells for Ari's infect threats he might've stabilized.
"from the battlefield"
other decks top 8 quite often

look at his back lol
he shoud of got rancor back it says in a graveyard
oh man, Ari Lax manages to annoy me in every possible way, he seems so cocky
instant
I laugh at how much these guys shuffle their hand,as if those 4 cards need shuffelling...lol
That play at 25:00 by Eric made him lose the game

every magic video i watch theres always so much bashing on the commentators man you guys must really hate like all of them
I've never liked Ari. Something about the smug expression that's always on his face.

Yay. First viewer :P
Wow, that infect player is baaaadd.
you do know your talking about ari lax, who is accepted to be one of the best infect players in magic.
CaptainWalmart16 ...albeit a good bit of a jerk in person, as I've learned...

You mean by tapping that noble that he just played? He had 1 green available.
