    Why would I need a smart meter when I pay the supplier to read his meter via the standing charge?

  • @ck008uk

    I’ve heard that energy suppliers can remotely control smart meters in order to even cut off the energy supply to a certain property.
    It made me wonder if they can remotely override the meter reading by adding extra units on top of the actual usage regularly. If they have remote control access to it, when/if a customer complains regarding an abnormal increase, they can even remotely adjust it so that the meter would not be seen as faulty during any inspection.
    Is there a guarantee or a way to validate that this would never happen to smart meter users?

    What you haven’t mentioned is that in order for a smart meter to work you must have access to O2 services.

    My smart meter sent reading back to octopus last April, which resulted in me receiving s bill for £2200, which took a month to correct. This February it again sent readings which resulted this time in a bill for £1700 .again it took a month to correct, and Lisa from octopus stated the meter was faulty sending wrong information.I've since told octopus I'm not using it and is now unplugged and its in the kitchen drawer.

    Had my smart meter installed recently and was wondering... Does the amount on the display include the standard charge?

    • @evsexplained
      @evsexplained  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as I'm aware, our smart meter doesn't include our standing charge with our energy usage calculations but, this may vary as other smart meters do from other energy providers.

    This does not tell me HOW TO INTERPRET what is showing on the IHD and how to find my way around it.

  • @smfvmd
    @smfvmd ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have the same IHD device that is pictured in the video. It has many faults, for instance it never resets to zero at midnight and when viewing the usage for the last seven days it gives different readings for the same date. I had an invoice last week and was charged on an estimated usage for my gas that was more than four times the amount actually used. This is not supposed to happen.

      i have had mine just over a week and the things a pure nightmare, went to bed one night with the gas on £4.71 emergency credit & elc was on £7.83 emergency credit only for at 5.50am the next morning before work our meter to tell us the emergency credit on the gas was now showing - £1.33, as soon as my my other half leaves for work the meter updated itself back to how it was the night before.. so basically a morning running about stressing for no reason anyway we put £10 on to put the gas back into the positive that was on the 17th, fast foward today and my gas has been disconected...meter keeps telling me its wainting for current data.... like it did the other monring, so im sat with no gas because this smart meter has to wait for current data Not very smart.

      @@mauriceosullivan6832 it honestly got so bad they had to come out & remove the Gas meter ( had todo it twice because they tried putting a smart meter on Again Sly, 2nd guy came & fixed it for us & told us MANY people are compaling ) we got our old style key card meter & we have seen a massive difference, the new smart meters seem to Use the credit ( Money ) really fast suspiciously fast & i had nothing but problem with my boiler not starting ( which I think was down to them controlling it or having to much control over it ) either way ever since the old style meter got put back on there not been one issue & saved money. Edit we still have the smart meter for the electric :/ but haven't really had an issue with that so not to bothered to go through the hassle of having that replaced

    My smart meter shows the same rate 24/7 on even though I have ev nightime rates. Why is this?

    • @evsexplained
      @evsexplained  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what I’ve been told by my energy provider, smart meters only show one rate even though I have a smart tariff “Octopus Go”.
      Your energy provider will automatically
      calculator this for you and will show a breakdown of your energy consumption at both rates on your statement.

    I got one to stop my energy supplier ripping me because charging the wrong direct debit

  • @zoeathomson4305
    @zoeathomson4305 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ive countless letters saying if i provide a meter reading they'll send a an accurate bill. I got my meter a few years ago because i kept running out direct debit for me was the best option. I stopped using gas 2 years ago and still being charged £50 then this year £76 a month the same as a business is paying. I ask, no practically begged them to turn it of April 2021 and they dropped every complaint and kept changing me for nothing i must have complained 8 times and still being charged then i told them to disconnect it. I got my last bill EDF energy say i should still be paying £76 a month for nothing 😭 i dont need gas any more. I can now heat my own home for a fraction of the cost.

    Message from my provider. Ofgem - the non-governmental regulatory body for energy supply - has specific rules around meter replacement. Their ‘New and Replacement Obligation’ (NRO) requires energy suppliers to take all reasonable steps to install smart meters for all new connections and replacement meters at domestic and non-domestic premises.
    Traditional meters are also no longer readily available, making them increasingly difficult to get hold of and we are not able to install Traditional Meters for you.
    If you would prefer to look into contacting different suppliers to see if another company could offer this for you, this is absolutely something that would be your choice. We do not have any exit fees on our tariffs.

    Completely put off by them consistently calling this "your smart meter" when its really THIER smart meter that myself and all other customers have paid for but will never own. Nothing is more accurate than you reading your own meter and supplying the readings to them on a monthly basis. They forget to tell you that if your IHD goes wrong they will charge you for replacement, and the new meter has the power of remote disconnection not mentioned anywhere in the bumf.
