- The Disney Cruise is amazing, but its not for everyone. If you don't like the water then maybe its not for you. But if you have a disability there is nothing stopping you from experiencing the magic onboard the Disney cruise line. Today I am answering a question I have gotten quite a few times. What accommodations does Disney have for guests onboard the Disney Cruise Line?

Waves of Disney: Those magical feelings you get as your excitement level grows for Disney. Whether you are planning a big family trip or just walking to your favorite attraction. The Waves of Disney describe the wave of emotions that we get as your excitement for Disney grows and grows.
Michael, so glad you have chosen to address this issue. I am the mom of an amazing 11 year old child with Down Syndrome. For our first cruise, we were just by coincidence given the ADA stateroom on The Fantasy. It was huge, with a huge verandah! We have now done nine cruises (Alaska, Europe three times, etc) in four years. Our next is a double dip on The Dream for Fourth of July. We will be Disney cruisers for life! The attention and affection shown to my child by every crew member has been amazing. My daughter loves the Oceeaneers Club and runs to it almost daily on every cruise. My child has made special friends with one occeaneers Club cast member, and we now book cruises specifically based on which ship that cast member happens have a contract with at the time. I have recommended DCL to many moms, and those who have tried it, love it. Nobody does it like Disney, and no other cruise line can even compare to DCL!

Your words give me peace of mind. Thank you. I am going to take my two autistic teens 17 and 13 to Alaska next year. It’s our very first cruise. I believe we will have a good time.
Person first language 💙
As a person with visual impairment and physical disabilities, this makes me so happy to know that even on sea, Disney is, well... Disney.
Thanks for this video, Michael! I am a disabled adult. Disney goes out of their way for their disabled guests. It's so good to hear that this is no different on the cruise line. Great information!
Thank you for this video- I’m hoping to go on my first Disney cruise this year so this was very reassuring ❤
My mom has a walker and transport chair. She had a huge handicapped room with walk in shower and automatic door which was great. Her balcony was also the size of our whole apartment in Minneapolis!!! Disney does a great job. No way she could be in a regular room because of the tubs in the bathrooms.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS! I am a disabled teen, and I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go on a Disney cruise. So it’ll be nice to know that there will be accommodations already set for me and my family. Hopefully we’ll be able to go on a Disney cruise soon!
Thank you❣️ I’m excited about our upcoming trip!!! Thank you for reassuring me!!!
If you have a child with special needs, definitely contact DCL ahead of time. A bit of back story: My son was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2011, he relapsed twice, the last was fatal. He gave us his bucket list which included another Disney Cruise. When I made the reservations, he had not been using his feeding tube for 6 months. By sailing, he was 100% tube fed. I did not think to tell DCL. Our poor servers. The first night when we tried to explain to our servers, they did not understand and brought out every kid meal. There were a few other instances where this came up in the kids club as well. I would have saved a lot of confusion and embarrassment had I let DCL know.
Your love and enthusiasm for Disney reminds me so much of him 💖
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us! I know this will really help other families
I am so very sorry for your loss.
Love that you think of the disabled and that you took the time to do this research and bring it to us... Thank you
Of course 😊
i'm in a wheelchair and have been on several cruises (mainly on the Fantasy, but one on the Wonder and one on the Magic). the castmembers will do anything and everything in their power to help make your trip the best possible, whether it's helping you to a table/available spot for one of the activities or just stopping to talk to make sure everything is going well, offering to push if you need it (and they do not push if you ask them not to). they treat EVERYBODY like they have a sign on their chest that says "make me feel important" because to the castmembers, you are-not because they get paid to do so, but because it's the right thing to do.
Thank you Michael. This was very helpful. I am very impressed by how inclusive Disney is.
Disney has always been the leader when it comes to ADA standards. Thanks for sharing the magic and have a magical day!
Yes with my mom in a wheelchair I didn’t know about all the accommodations especially on castaway and theater
Becky Jack so glad it helped!
thank you so much for your video!! I have a son who is disabled and you have answered my questions! thank you!!
Always look forward to your videos Michael but was especially excited to see you address the disability issues on the cruise line. My husband is currently using a wheelchair and I was wondering if this was doable. Now I have confidence that we can cruise and have a great time. A big thank you!
I cannot even thank you enough for this video. This has really opened our eyes to a cruise being possible for our son.
arielle rivera Arielle, please please book DCL as soon as you can. Your son will remember it forever. We have done nine and my daughter is a child with Down Syndrome. You can imaging how I felt about leaving her in the Oceanneers Club. I told them “well, she needs a lot of attention, blah, blah...”. The cast member said “oh we have had many kids with DS in here before, no problem.” My friend who has one child in a wheelchair and another child with DS booked a Halloween on the High Seas to Mexico and now will only cruise with Disney too. Really, it’s an amazing experience.
My sister is type 1 diabetic and there should be a sharps container located in your stateroom. If not you can just go to guest services and ask for one. At Disney World, we went to the front desk and then a cast member delivered the sharps container to our room later.
Thank you Michael, for using person-first language! :-)
Thank you Michael for your video. As usual you include everybody in your magical experiences with Disney. In the past, during a live Q&A, I had asked about the Aqua Duck being accessible to people in wheelchairs. You so kindly answered me that you have to use the stairs in order to get to the slide. Just a heads up for people who don't have someone in their party to carry them up the stairs. Fortunately, there are plenty of other things that you can enjoy on the cruise line.
Nicely done! As somebody with mobility issues I appreciate this and your videos!
James From Manitoba my pleasure
Can I say this, your speaking voice, your knowledge, your natural excitement, your friends and family on your videos have to me made you most definitely one of the top travel you tubers! Im very proud of you!
Thanks so much!
This is one of your best videos. Thank you and have a magical day
Thanks for sharing Michael.
Thank you so much for this video, Michael! I use a wheelchair and a service dog. Our cruise isn't until May of 2020, but I'm hoping to have a magical experience. There is a LOT of paperwork for service dogs! I just want the best time I possibly can have. This will be a once in a lifetime trip for us. I'm so excited!
Musketeer & Me Franks so glad you are going!! It’s going to be magical
How did it go? I hope it went well! 💖
@@-luna-moon- We were 75 days out from sailing and Covid destroyed everyone's plans. We tried again in 2021, but they weren't allowing character meet and greets and in my opinion, it wasn't worth the cost if I couldn't get a hug from Goofy. We aren't going in 23 because our children will be at the age that they can't do the Vibe thing or the adult thing. So we're praying for 2024!
THANKYOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!! I am really hoping our family can go on a cruise
Hey! I love the video, the problem is, despite this video being about Guests with disabilities, there are no accurate captions! As a hard of hearing teen, I'm asking if you could please caption the video so I can watch it too. Love your content/vids, though!
My daughter has Autism planning on taking her on the Disney cruise 🚢 this is helpful
oh my gosh this is so convenient! I'm literally writing my 6 page history paper on this topic! :D
Traveled with my family on The Big Red Boat in the early ‘90s...great memories! Look forward to taking a DCL vacation someday and this video was very helpful. We’re vacationing again at Disney World soon and can’t wait!!!
Disney ships are superior to Red Boats that I sailed with in 1989, 1991 and 1994 before Disney had their own ships.
Sandra Powers Good to know, thanks a lot! Maybe someday my sister and I can afford to take my 4yo nephew and our parents on the DCL!! Mom and dad have cruised many times since the BRB...mostly with Royal Caribbean. We’ve gone on a couple cruises, too! Friends have been on Disney Cruisline vacations and love it.
Michael just add that the sand chairs are too heavy and can be hard to get to the beach it took three people to help get one off the beach
Thank you for the great info, this will help anyone with special needs. Thanks for all your hard work to bring us all great info!
Pamela A. Cobb so glad you found it helpful 👍
Michael thank you for sharing this video because I’m thinking about doing a Disney Cruise and watching your vlogs I have found them very interesting and very enjoyable especially during this time when we are staying at home due to the issue.
I am a disabled individual with a scooter so I was wondering what disabled rooms look like and was wondering if I were to get a handicap accessible what would it look like thank you and look forward to your future cruises adventures and Disney aventures 😊
Thank you for the videos. My hubby is an amputee
Very informative! Thank you!
Elizabeth Lambert so glad you liked it

gordon farmer so glad you found it helpful!
@@JourneyTogetherToday im aaving for me and my mum to go on an cruise and im thinking disney from dover port in the uk.
Where planning to go to Disney cruise 🚢 my daughter is autistic I hope Disney can accommodate us thanks
I have yet to go to The Most Magical Place At Sea but plan to in the hopefully near future. I use a walker and wheelchair. I am confident from lots of research that my needs will be beyond accommodated. My only concern that I currently have is the trams on Castaway Cay, which I have found very little information about. I move very slowly and would like to take full advantage of my time on the island and bet that they'll be beneficial in time management for me. I imagine they are accommodating as well but can anyone please verify this for me?
Thanks Michael my husband uses a wheelchair 90% of the time are the special wc at c bay free to use or is there a charge like at the parks $20 per day with a deposit
I have fragile x syndrome and I get around and do things like a normal person😉
Good Morning Michael!
The only things for me I’m nervous on if going on a Disney cruise are the Muster Drills and StrobelightSmokeAlarms in my Stateroom if a see a strobe light in my state room I wouldn’t feel magical and same with drills I am uncomfortable in loud noises but don’t want to miss any attractions my parents say I won’t like a cruise but it’s been a dream to go on a Disney Cruise but I’m nervous on the alarms and drills.
I was looking to plan a trip however my child has autism & I'm afraid that it just may not be a good idea. This definitely answered a few questions I had but I'm still on the fence. Has anyone traveled with their autistic child?
The sand wheelchair is ok I still found that it wasn't as easy as I pixtc

You going back on the wonder, Mike?
One day
We do not have anybody with special needs but we were upgraded to a handicap room. It was extra spacious and seemed like it would be great for a wheelchair.
Do they allow ecv wheelchairs on the cruise ship?
Robert Rothenburgh sure do!
