    Odd that this farmer mentions a free trade deal but this does not mean that there are no tariffs to export lamb to the eu. The AHDB (Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board) quotes 12.8%. Why wasn’t this apparent omission challenged? A brief Google search reveals that lamb exports to the eu dropped from 90k tons in 2011 to 67k tons in 2022. Figures for 2023 indicate a further drop to nearer 60k tons. Good luck Gareth. I’m still none the wiser if the profit margin has been hit by these tariffs, veterinarian certification and other brexit export costs or if the eu consumer is covering the cost. Not very good journalism.

    • @genghisthegreat2034
      @genghisthegreat2034 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The EU customer isn't covering any British increased costs, because there are lamb suppliers within EU Member States who can take up any slack arising from price responsiveness.

      My local supermarket in Germany now only stocks Irish butter, only EU lamb, absolutely no British lamb sometimes a little NZ. Scotch has gone up quite a lot, no English wine or bubbly at all, English cheese is now only cheddar and it's quite dear, all the others,Stilton etc. have been replaced with continental 'similar' Brexit has completely removed GB from all of the EU

      The Tory government, especially Rees Mogg and their economics advisor Patrick Minford, decided that, like Singapore, Britain would import food from wherever it was cheapest. And that Britain should concentrate on high value industries post Brexit, not agriculture. Rees Mogg did promise much cheaper food and energy bills as a result of these imports. And the same people in government are now saying, that business must cope with the new inspections, extra costs and paperwork. There is absolutely no self sufficiency drive. The trade deals with Australia and New Zealand promote exactly this cheap import plan which will hit this farmer's bottom line very badly. I think farmers will have to wait for a long time to get any food self sufficiency support from the government.

  • @LerxstDirkandPratt

Question: Did they phone local scrap yards asking and percuring old railway sleepers before the outbreak of foot and mouth ?Question: Did the sleepers come from the rural railway stations shut down after the war ?question: What was SIR Tony's job after prime minister of England? Question: Who removed the treason law ? Question: Was this before brexit or after ?

    She talks of the massive sense of excitement in parliament square by the hard of thinking on the evening that we left the EU , it reminds me when in 1912/3 when we were recruiting soldiers for WW1 that reams of young men in Britain were queuing up to sign up for the army , groups of friends , workers all trying to sign up in heightened excitement to give Johnny Foreigner a good seeing to , not knowing that the reality was going to be very different when the general melchett types were ordering thousands of them to their inevitable impending deaths in the trenches & then 4 years later 4 million men dead , senselessly . It’s time to reflect on how the wealthy elites treat ordinary people & the expenditure of our lives/ freedoms / rights are meaningless to them !
