Excellent tribute to bis dad. So glad his father got to hear it before he died. I have Dan Fogleberg's Greatest Hits CD, and every song on it is great. Please try to give it a listen. Greatings from S.A. Tx.
I discovered Dan Fogelburg at my first concert ever. I went home and bought his Souvenirs album and, over time, bought his entire catalog. His lyrics are a gift from his mother, the music a gift from his Dad. His Dad was the leader of the UCLA band. The horns on the recording are the UCLA horn section. Dan died way too early. I saw him several times over the years, but his illness finally got the best of him. Lots more to discover !! Most of his songs are priceless !! ❤❤
Knowing this song and knowing how I'm going to react to hearing it again, I always start bawling when Dan sings the line, " and papa I don't think I said I love you near enough." Dan Fogelberg, taken too soon.
My favorite solo artist who could write and sing just about any style of music. Here is some of the variety of great songs, some big hits and others just fantastic. Tunes; Run For The Roses,Ghosts, Netherlands, old Tennessee,The Reach; just to name a very few of his long list!
Many wonderful songs from Dan as you see in the comments that are worth reacting to. From another group there is another song with a father-son relationship. From Mike and the Mechanics called The Living Years, hope you can check out that one sometime.
Thanks to your subscribers who requested some Dan Fogelberg, and thank your Shawn for listening to your fans and trying new music. You are greatly appreciated by your Patrons and Subscribers.
I wore out the needle on my turntable playing his Innocent Age double album back in the early 80s. What a great singer-songwriter, he passed way too soon.
Music doesn't get much better than this. He had so many great songs. As a horse lover, I always liked Run For The Roses. He wrote it especially for the Kentucky Derby.
Since my dad passed, these son-to-father songs really hit me hard. Along with this one you have Bread's "Everything I Own" and Mike & the Mechanics' "Living Years". Others I'm not remembering. To those missing their dads, I wish you peace and comfort.
❤ I’ve been waiting for more reactors to do this song. Thank you for reacting to this. Such a wonderful song and a wonderful artist! I also vote for doing Dan’s song “ Same Auld Lang Syne”… another storytelling song about running into his old love on a trip back to Peoria. ( Dan’s father was a former high school and college band director who understood when Dan left college early to pursue a music career) Wonderful music! Thanks again Shawn!
Another fan has already mentionedthe beautiful ballad, "Nether Lands" (2 words), so I won't mention it. Remind me not to mention Nether Lands. Instead, let me mention "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler". Both guaranteed to knock your underwear off. Or maybe it was socks. Yes, socks. My bad. When will they invent an eraser for computers?
I knew Dan from U of IL in 1970 and'71, where he used to play in a little coffeehouse in the basement of a Unitarian Church called The Red Herring. He was a great guitarist, singer, and songwriter, and everyone there kept telling him he needed to go professional. He dropped out and went to LA, and the rest is history. I still have some recordings of some songs he did at the coffeehouse that turned up on his first album.
One of the best story songs I've ever heard. Too long for a commercial release but it was one of Dan's own favourites. Very much a movie that plays in your head as you listen. I go to a lot of car shows, and that song starts playing in head every time I see a '60 Chevrolet...
I bought Fogelberg’s first LP based on cover art alone. Had never heard of him. It was great! I was a little sad on his 2nd and subsequent LPs, because he obviously went to LA and got more professional players and production. I liked the raw naturalness of the first LP. From the first LP, “Wysteria”, “Looking for a Lady”, and “The River” are good tracks. But this indeed is a great one. I can relate, because I also had a great father, who taught me so much. Thanks.
One of Dan's many great songs that touches your heart and soul. It's a song that makes you think of your father or father figure that you love and respect. His "Run for the Roses" has a special meaning to me since we raised horses growing up. Right now, they are trying to get him into the RRHOF, which I give a big yes to. Dan is another one that left us way too soon.
Thanks for your standard insightful, sensitive, and appreciative reaction to one of my favorite tunes from this master musician. My favorite of his, which I can't recommend strongly enough, is "Run for the Roses."
You wouldn't know this from the brief bio you read, but Dan's father was the career leader of the Peoria (Illinois) High School Band. That is the band to which the song refers.
One of my favorite artists. Dan Fogelberg was such a great folk rock singer songwriter & storyteller. He also played multiple instruments such as guitar, bass, piano & mandolin. I had his double album "The Innocent Age" from 1981. "Leader Of The Band" is my favorite song by him, a loving tribute to his dad. He wrote so many great songs such as "Longer", "Hard To Say", "Missing You", "Make Love Stay", "Run For The Roses", "The Language Of Love", "Believe In Me", "Same Auld Lang Syne" etc. We lost him much too soon in 2007.
Fogelberg's well is deep. He played it all and played it all well. Here are some recommendations: Rock n Roll -Power Of Gold (studio version) Blues -Nature Of The Game, Road Beneath My Wheels, or his live cover of Muddy Waters' Blow Wind Love Songs -Longer, Believe In Me Orchestral -Nether Lands Bluegrass -Mountain Pass Story Songs -Same Old Lang Syne, Tucson Arizona Bossa Nova -Give Me Some Time Instrumental -Intimidation (with jazz flautist Tim Wiesberg.) Guitar work -Guitar Etúde #3 Tribute Song -Bones In The Sky (to Georgia O'Keefe) His breakout hit -Part Of The Plan (produced by Joe Walsh) There are many, many others but this will keep you busy.
Ohhh my favourite of all singer-songwriters. Go down this rabbit hole and you will force me to subscribe... We lost Dan to cancer in 2007. Fortunately he had a stellar career beforehand. Other DF to check out: To The Morning Wysteria The Last Nail Nether Lands Scarecrow's Dream Longer The Power Of Gold Make Love Stay Beggar's Game Sweet Magnolia The Sand And The Foam Ghosts River Of Souls Colors Of Eve Only The Heart May Know Bones In The Sky The Reach Heart Hotels Wandering Shepherd Is This Magic Along The Road Whispers In The Wind Tucson, Arizona (Gazette) Same Old Lang Syne Windows And Walls Believe In Me Exiles Seeing You Again As The Raven Flies I'm, er, kind of a fan...😁
Try some of the earlier songs, like Part of the Plan, then into his real compositions Netherlands, Nexus and others. His lyrics are terrific, but he was more than a songwriter, he was a composer.
Definitely check out Dan's song ~Power Of Gold~ This live version is amazing to listen to and watch. th-cam.com/video/H69ohsJOliw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ewIn6IW8ht3zAIvV
it was so cool that Dan's dad got a chance to hear this song.
Not only hear it but see it become a hit and have journalists interviewing him. Both Dan and Lawrence loved that...
I second the request for Same Old Lang Syne. Also, Run For The Roses and Longer are beautiful. Dan is sadly missed.
Great reaction.
no matter how many times I hear this song, every time i cry.
Me too
NO ONE writes lyrics like Dan. One of my favorite artists and he is definitely worthy of a deep dive.
Dan Fogelberg is one of my all-time favorite artist. Thanks for answering my request.
I appreciate that you request this song - It means a lot to me.

I was privileged to get to see Dan live. Amazing performer. Humble man.
RIP
So very many great songs from him.
Dive deep!
How fortunate you were.
Knowing this song and knowing how I'm going to react to hearing it again, I always start bawling when Dan sings the line, " and papa I don't think I said I love you near enough." Dan Fogelberg, taken too soon.
One of his BEST, his father got a chance to hear this before he passed. Try Another Auld Lang Syne.
Same Old Lang Syne...but it does have "another Auld Lang Syne" in the lyric.
@@stevetournay6103 Thank you....I was trying to remember and that one kinda stuck out, guess I should've grabbed the record and looked.

Just one of at least a dozen great storytellers from the 70s.
A perfect song, much more meaningful since I lost my dad in 2020
I saw Dan live and it was one of the best concerts I ever saw. He was flawless. His music is adult and very good. You cannot go wrong with him.
Many wonderful songs from Dan as you see in the comments that are worth reacting to. From another group there is another song with a father-son relationship. From Mike and the Mechanics called The Living Years, hope you can check out that one sometime.
The Power Of Gold was another good one!

Thanks so much for reacting to my favorite Dan Fogelberg song.

Beautiful. RIP Dan💔
Great catalog of music. Besides all the well known hits, I love some of his lesser known songs like Sutter's Mill, Along the Road, and Phoenix
Nether Lands is an epic track. Definitely worth a listen.
You wouldn't know this from the brief bio you read, but Dan's father was the career leader of the Peoria (Illinois) High School Band. That is the band to which the song refers.
Same Auld Lang Syne is a must. Longer is also great. This man had a fantastic voice and had some really good songs.
Have the Folgerberg, weinburg album, Twin Sons from Different Mother's. Awesome! Still play it. 🙂✌️

My wife said in jest that he must have a woman writing the lyrics to his songs, because no man could ever write such emotional stories. R.I.P Dan.
Weisburgh(spelling) , sorry.
