    Mind blown! Ada Lovelace is Lord Byron's daughter. First computer used punchcards invented for weaving and knitting machines! Invented by Joseph Jacquard - namesake for multicoloured patterning on knitting machines. Wow.

      Yes, although that's a different mechanism because it doesn't store the data in any way apart from the physical storage. No transitory data stored.
