have an older camillus military combat knife. it is as sharp as you can get any blade. i always carry a knife on me. my every day carry knife is a folding schrade extreme survival knife. i carry it for defense only. i use a small pen knife to cut string and other stuff.
A machete is hardly useless in the forest! It is a heavy sharp edged tool. What kind of comment is that? Jungle environments are choked with brush and plant matter, machete's are used to clear brush and plant matter, not chop trees! The boreal is full of....that's right, brush and plant matter.Machete is ideal for the kind of bush found in the boreal. Good to hear from a fellow canadian. Have you got any videos? I would like to see them. Be well.
Hey Les. Build us a fixed blade knife for everyday carry small enough so we don't get bothered by the police. Put it in a sheath with straps so we can carry it on our ankle, both wearing shorts and long pants. Put the fire rod on the edge so it dosn't stick out, and make it more beefy. No cheesy flashlights, put a good one in there.
lol yee yee. I prefer to Ontario RTAK II. That shit is great for batoning, and has a life-time no-questions-asked warranty. If you can break it, they'll give you a new one, with or without a receipt. It also has a 10.75" blade, and is made of 1095 carbon steel. California made brotha.
i just bought a sk jungle machete and it does seem like the pummel is going to break as soon as i pummel something because it is made out of plastic instead of metal. why would you not attach the pummel to the full tang with rivets or a weld if it is supposed to be for survival. people are going to actually die because they put this machete in there survival kits or at least have a really hard time with a half handle machete. why les? i bought your machete because im from almaguin.
people what do you expect if you take away the cost of a sheath and the fire starter and i believe it comes with a sharpener, you are left with a knife value of about $30 which for this knife is a hell of a deal for the survival enthusiast that doesn't have a large income or parents willing to buy expensive knives
This blade isn't as good as it could be. First off, carbon steel is stronger, harder, and can be sharpened more than stainless steel. Carbon Steel can also create sparks when struck against certain materials like quartz, flint, ect. Although I noticed that this blade did work with the steel striker.
Stroud is completely legit, and the ultimate survivor man, I agree. But being paid out by a company to advertise, that makes a shit product, does not mean the product is the best.
and charles i know you have alot of energy but to hate on me come on use it to be a better person after what happened to you and focus on your success and helping people because your already modest about your capabilities and hating doesnt help punk
Secondly, serrations are completely unnecessary and almost entirely useless for a knife of that size. I would say to put the serrations on the back of the knife, but I would rather not have them in the way, and I would rather have the blunt back space for striking to start fire. Also, a steel and/or wood handle with leather wrapping would be incredibly stronger and more durable and, if done right, would still have a great grip. This is a very well made blade, but it can be improved.
A machete is pretty much useless in the boreal, you would be much better with an axe or a hatchet. Les has a series of custom axes and hatchets made by wetterlings if you are looking for a cutting tool for the boreal.
It's a damn shame about these knives. I've always thought of Les as the real deal. Why would he partner with a company like Camillus and put his name on craptastic gear, especially since he has always used Buck and Leatherman products on the show? Les could have created the ultimate survival multitool, or the most baddass Buck knife in the universe. Such a shame.
400 A B C? HRC ? Stainless + coating? Why not 1095 and coating? Even Schrade use it. False edge and serrations on the part of the blade used the most for carving? Titanium? hammer head that is glued to plastic? Black and grey as surviving colours? Why does it look like Bear Grylls knife? Love your TV shows but that knife was not designed by any expert.
Stroud, you're better than Grylls. But please don't take after him in making cheap mainstream knives! Do some research and try working with Ontario Knife Company, Cold Steel, Tops Knives, Ka-Bar, etc. Make something with high quality carbon steel that can take a beating.
They're all small knives, I am very surprised. Long knives make for better survival knives, because they can do everything a small knife can do, but a small knife cannot do everything a long knife can do. With a long knife, you can baton wood and quarter logs really easily and energy efficiently. With these dink-knives, you can't use them practically for acquiring wood in any way (for shelter or fire). Impractical and useless? Come on Les, you're better than this!
cant wait def getting the folding one for Christmas
love the mechete .
yeah, that's the first thing I noticed about the knife too.
At 3:10 is a cat in the background :D
No racoon
Wow, this commercial is scary similar to the Gerber Bear Grylls one with even having a series of blades.
Striker is cool. I seen the cat stealthing thru. lol
Omg les has a TH-cam I love survivor man I could watch it all day!!

This is interesting. Where is a cat?
Les Stroud has a Cat - 3:15
did anyone else see the cat in the back|?
was just about to ask the the hell that was! lol
hahaha great minds think alike
yes. saw the dog too.
I came here for the cat
it's basically bear grylls all over again

I got the Arctic knife, its a good knife, but the sheath sucks!

I don't know what ur talking about the knives are great
If he puts serrations on the back of the blade you wont be able to baton very well
3:11 ?? is that a racoon or a cat ??
Better than that Bear Grylls trash Gerber puts out.

stop copying bear grylls and your knife looks like his and you didnt design the knives you copied it
I thing Les has good intentions, but Camillus is shit. I bought the carnivore and it broke in literally ten minutes.
les stroud knife had to copy gerber in order to come up in the knife world bottom line camillus knife suck
