  • This 1970 Newport has only 137 true miles, Yes only 137 miles on her.
The car itself has had a different history, thus this is why the very low original miles. The car was ordered from Chrysler and delivered to Reed motors in Bellfonte, Pa. when the car was being backed off the carrier the driver got to close to the side of the carrier and did contact it. He damaged the drivers door and scuffed the quarter paint.
The dealer refused delivery of the car at this time the car had 7 miles on it. The car stayed at the dealer for a little while. The car could not go back to the factory so Chrysler donated the car to the Centre County Vocational-Technical School to be used as an project for their automotive class. The car has since then switched hands when it was sold from the school to a private person that never used the car and the last that put a total of 120 miles on her. If anyone has any questions please feel free to call me at 570-875-7109. Thanks, Marty

My grandmother had this exact same car when I was a child. It was cream with a black top and she had white metal louvers in the back window. Same color interior as this car. Like an "off gold". I remember when she's start it in the morning, the "cold" light would come on and stay on for like 2 or 3 mins. LOL. Ice cold a/c in that thing, too. Would freeze you out! Rode like a Cadillac. Very soft, cushy ride! I miss that car.

I'm surpized that the engine has not locked up on it sitting so long with such low miles on it thats a rare one of a kind 70 Newport it would make a great Copy car for a restoration of another one like that in the prosses .

I love watching these videos of original, low mileage American cars. They got so much criticism for poor quality and workmanship back when they were new, but I've personally never seen an original American car which looked badly made or with any obvious faults to anything.

I had this exact same car (interior darker green) in 1986, senior year of high school. And yes, although my friends had the latest and greatest, I LOVED and always will love, this car. I remember driving it home and thought it barely fit in between the center line and curb it was so wide. I failed my 1st driver's test in it during parallel parking in it, scaring the DPS officer and freaking him out while my three brothers were bowled over holding their stomachs laughing. I would subsequently pass it in my dad's short base pickup a few weeks later. Man, I wished...wished I still had it.

Awesome. That "shield" over the exhaust manifold is the heat riser.

Hi, the car sold for $12,500. It would of gotten more but the history is great but it does take away from the value. If it still was the original paint on it with the original Vin # still entact it would have been in the mid to upper $30,000 range. I saw a 1972 120 original mile Buick staton wagon that was untouched go for $42,000 I could not belive it but it did. Thanks, Marty

My dad had this car for a few years. It road nicely as long as it was lightly loaded, driver and one or two passengers. But load it up with 5 or 6 people, fill the trunk with luggage all the way to its 1,100 pound people and cargo, then look out. NONE of that big car ride was left. It bounded up and down on poor roads and the suspension would crash down on its bump stops.

$12,500 was a great price for this and amazing value. The background story explains everything and it will only go up in value.

My father and I each bought a new Newport in '70. His engines internal oil pump failed at nearly 36,000 miles a year and a half later. Though in warranty, he traded for a New Yorker. Mine also failed at nearly 36k, still in warranty. As I was taking it to a dealer years later for a trade, the same thing happened as I coasted into the driveway. Mileage? 73,609. Never bought a Chrysler product since.

My father worked at Reed Motors, we lived about 6 blocks from the original dealership on Bishop St. in Bellefonte....(If it helps, it's pronounced "Belle-font" and it's smack dab in the middle of PA, not really near Pittsburgh though).

Trolls can piss off! And yes, this car is gorgeous! I have owned several C bodies and all were great drivers, whatever the road conditions or weather, or loaded down or not. One of the most roadable cars ever. The police used these a lot and none of them ever complained, quite the contrary they all loved and respected them and few cretins could shake one in a feeble attempt to get away. The '69 cop Polara w440 held the top speed cop car record for many many yrs at 146 mph. No overdrive, no areodynamics. Excellent.

The best thing about this car is that it was garaged and there appears to be zero rust. That's so rare for these Chryslers-they had awful rubber trim and seals which were promote rust in any state if water leaked and sat any place in the car. The engine blue color is correct but not the A/C or other external engine parts. They were originally black. Would love to know what this sold for.

DAMN!LOL! I WAS serious, BTW! Anyway, does your car have the "Aztec" insignia on it somewhere? I forget when they stopped putting that on the Newports. I spent 4 years at Minot AFB, so, I don't think I'll be going!LOL! "Freezin's the Reason"! Have fun at the car show!

137 miles in 38 years! Even with the relatively poor fuel economy of this class of car, that might be half a tank of gas. I'm guessing that the fuel system must have been flushed and the carb rebuilt at some point in its life in order for it to run as nice as it does in the video.
    Beautiful car nonetheless.

Somebody definitely went a little nuts with the blue paint. Plus the missing black paint on the rad around the rad cap makes me think this car has been overheated. It doesn't get that way on it's own.

@Ynzevdz I used to have a 1973 New Yorker with 89k all original and put on 30k and sold it, never had a problem till the tranny gave out but it was 35 years old at the time and I was a kid. I dont know much about them but they are great and when they build these cars it was common to have over sprey on some parts but I am not saying this was or not.

I know where there is a 1970 Eldorado with 289 miles on it. When I worked for the Caddy dealer.. She would call to get started, because it sat so long and killed the battery,, When it was in the shop we had to blow the carbs out on the hwy to get it to run right.

What is the mpg for this? Does it decrease when using the air conditioner? I really would love to get another one like my father had in the 1060s if I possibly can. It was the most comfortable and simple but luxurious. I still dream of the one he had

    • @1575murray

The 383 2 barrel standard engine would probably get about 12 mpg in city driving and about 16 on the highway. The A/C would definitely decrease the fuel economy. This is a big heavy car and many people didn't take fuel economy seriously in those days. Of course events later in the 1970s changed all that and cars were drastically downsized as a result. I don't miss the hard to maintain carburetors and ignition systems of the era.

    • @fairfaxcat1312
      @fairfaxcat1312 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Gas milage was far better than 12 MPG on this model, particularly because it has a two barrel carburetor.

Very, very nice car! But 100% original? I don't think so. Somebody repainted the engine and decided to spray the A/C compressor the same color...these compressors should be black, not blue.
There is overspray on the PVC hose on the left side valve cover, clearly not original.
Also there is a red, non original, heater hose. Heater hoses shpuld be black ofcourse. I don't try to be a smartass but I just know this stuff.
