  • This film shows some Docklands Light Railway (DLR) action at Canary Wharf station in London, England during the evening rush hour.
The DLR is a driverless light railway system serving the newly-developed Docklands area in London. As of now, it has 45 stations and 7 lines.
Canary Wharf station is situated amid some modern towers and skyscrapers at the heart of one of London’s modern and upcoming financial districts.
    Enjoy!
    Filmed on 5 October 2015.

This station makes me nostalgic. It is something I am actually familiar with.

I like how easy the light rail systems are. Hop on hop off, no nonsense, not oversized, miss one train wait 4 minutes another will be along the way, Forget autonomous cars, this is the future.

I can't understand why they've builded the West India Quay station like 30 meters away from Canary Wharf!

They are on different docks and serve different buildings, that is probably the reason. The same is true for Heron Quays, which is also just a few meters away from Canary Wharf.

West India Quay station was there first, in 1987 when the railway opened. Canary Wharf didn't open for another few years, after the development of the site was well -established with the surrounding buildings, which didn't exist in 1987.

Also so you don't have to waste time crossing the canal type thing that is inbetween the two stations (there are no bridges by the way)

Is that the shortest distance between stations anywhere between there and West India Quay? it looks literally about 50 metres.

When you get a chance why don't you film the DLR bank loop where DLR trains go from the terminating platforms to the start of the route. It's like the Kennington loop but less people know about it.

    • @crazysharkgaming8947

Sorry for the late reply, but the trains actually go to a turnback loop at Bank, and switch ends

The DLR was presumably inspired by Vancouver's SkyTrain.

    • @ianmoseley9910
      @ianmoseley9910 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Mutsor Tima Possibly some crossover in design. Skytrain opened in Dec 1985', and DLR started construction earlier that year

Eventually I can see the NYCTA going this route as well (using automated trains) and faze out the motorman's position. That would be a shame though.

    • @LiftFan

The DLR was designed and built with the idea that there wouldn't be any manual drivers, which is how it has always run. There are only staff on the train for being guards and for if the system fails and the trains need driving manually for whatever reason.
