Is Life Better in Europe or USA? An Honest Review After 1 Year As an American in Europe

- In this video, I share my honest opinion on whether life is better in Europe or America. Since traveling to Europe for the first time, I've experienced a great deal of culture shock. And now, as an American in Europe for over 1 year, I have some very controversial thoughts on which truly offers a higher quality of life. Whether you're looking to travel to Europe or become one of the many Americans living abroad, this video will help you make an informed decision.

As a public economist in Europe, I have always found it strange that ideas such as public healthcare or free public education, environmental protection are often considered "socialist" in the US. For us, these are fundamental rights guaranteed by our constitution that enable the individual to grow and prosper within the collective, thereby becoming capable of giving something back to society.
We can afford all those wonderful things in Europe because we have let the USA pay for our defence for decades. However, we are the ones that have Putin on our neck, while they have Mexico and Canada next to them.
@@potomac1979 might seem logical, but is indeed incorrect. Look at Sweden or Finland: high public welfare state, well equipped Military forces.
Can we please stop pretending that the USA has not benefited from its military supremacy? I'll even go one step further: this supremacy was desired for decades but is no longer seen that way by the population. The USA owes its dominance in the tech industry and space exploration to this military supremacy. Conversely, relinquishing military supremacy will lead to a loss of dominance in civilian applications, which drive civilian innovations and, consequently, economic capitalization. This is the decision the USA has made, but I don't think they are fully aware of the consequences. In a few years, they will be surprised to see how much their cultural and political influence has diminished due to their reduced military presence.
And no, Russia and the USA are also neighbors.
@@potomac1979no, that's wrong. Our social System has nothing to do with American military and defense since 1945 as you told. It's simply bs.
Our social System was founded by chancellor Otto von Bismarck in the 19th! Century 1884 under Our german monarchy.

You can find the informations at Wikipedia.
@@potomac1979 Incorrect. We literally pay for our better quality of life by having a higher cost of living. You don't need to kiss American b*tts, you know?
@@potomac1979that's absolutely incorrect. The only reason american military budget is larger than that of European allies is because it includes social benefits for soldiers, insurance, healthcare etc. which in Europe are included in different budgets because they are for all citizens. Over 50% of US military budget is that. If we compare forces, the only thing US is superior in is air force, due to economics of scale and large stockpile. But even so, Europe doesn't need US for defence against Russia, we have 3 times as much aircraft than them. It's the US that would need assistance with potential conflict against China. And knowing what was the only country to ever invoke article 5 of NATO It's ridiculous to say that US paid for other nation's defence.

Hi Jordan, I am a 19y old Italian from Milano.
At the age of 15y, I was an Exchange student in the U.S, did 3 different States.
I have experienced the biggest culture shock ever because while living in the U.S with different families I actually realised that U.S is nothing more than a 3rd world country with a fake Gucci belt on, with people who don’t know what happiness is, who are obsessed with material stuff. It’s not even their fault, while living there you realise that something is badly wrong, that the U.S is one big marketing machine.
To give you an example, before I went studying in the U.S my favorite time was to be late night with my friends in the city center of Milano, dancing and singing in the streets. We didn’t even needed to take money with us, we had so much fun being with our friends. We were actually able to be young boys. We played football in the streets, visited eldery people we knew, to keep them company and of course we loved the treats. My life couldn’t be better.
In the U.S we weren’t allowed to be at night on the streets and there was simply nothing to do for young boys like me. The teenagers of my ages played computer games or were on their mobile the entire time. They didn’t even knew what friendship was as they barely talked to eachother. If they talked it was to brag about something new and expensive they received.
When I ended up with my last exchange family in Maryland I was badly homesick. Had severe bellypain from all the fastfood and felt depressed. I told my exchange family from the first day I arrived that this experience hasn’t been great for me, so I rather go home than staying 3 more months in a place, I don’t want to be. They were such a loving family and said, what if we live like you do in Italy? So we went all together grosery shopping. I learned from my Nonna how to make a lot of Italian dishes. We started cooking all together, played board games in the evening with their family. Went running with their boys, who
Are my age, we played foodball. We did neighborhood parties like we did in Italy and strangely, they didn’t even knew their neighbors. When it’s was time to leave I realised how much their sons had changed. Jason was obese when I arrived and hé basically lost half of his body weight, same with his brother and parents. They all cried and said the most beautiful things to me, you are a Gods gift, you have changed us so much for the better. Our family has never been this close and you showed us what real happiness is. I was actually just a teenager, only learned them how we live in Milano, of course we have all the luxery they have, we have a pool, sauna, beautiful villa but I was taught not to brag about material stuff.
I also spended 3 months in California, seen the neighborhoods you showed. They expected me to be hugely impressed when they showed me the places where the Hollywood stars live, but I wasn’t. My neighborhood in Milano looks just as wealthy but we don’t have tons of homeless people just around the corner.
I was actually far more impressed by the neighborhoods in Belgium where my uncle lives. But these people don’t brag and are amazing down to earth people.
Lately I studied a year in Madrid shared a student home with several other Europeans,, Germans, Belgians, Dutch, French, Spanish, Scandinavians, Estonians,.. we might have different cultures but we are so similar. We don’t need anything to be happy, just each other.
You would actually think that because Americans work much more, longer hours that the have the highest Median wealth but they don’t. They aren’t even in the top 10. The wealthiest countries are Luxembourg and Belgium. Even Spain has a higher Median wealth than the U.S and live is so much cheaper in Spain.
Hi Gianni, that was beautiful to read you sound wise beyond your years. I am a older lady with a 17 year old son who would love to visit the US, mainly because if how it is portrayed in the media. But I know the government controls the media and only portrays what they want us and them to believe.
Your description of it being a 3rd world country with a Gucci belt is so accurate. You are a shining example of our young people today. ❤x
Well put I spent time in the USA working and traveled world wide both for fun and work. It’s so true maybe because you saw things from a younger point of view or you’re just honest to yourself and others. Now living in the Netherlands enjoying the freedom of movement. 😊
I'm 59 and I've lived in the US my whole life. I figured out pretty young that the US is nothing more than a glorified soulless corporation masquerading as a country. I considered many times trying to move abroad but my closeness to my family was always the thing that stopped me. I wish I had tried it. I remember thinking if we were really great they wouldn't have to make a point of always telling us.
Hey, I spent a total of close to three years in my teens, in NY and NC. It seemed great back then. Then I grew up and started learning things :-) I have been considering the US of A a developing country for a number of years now. I loved the fake Gucci belt.
Milan got some ugly modernist buildings.

@@Mxke818 That's a bit odd to say. Of course the US is large, but surely a country like India is orders of magnitude more diverse (in languages, culture, the way things look, standards of living). And when compared to Europe, we don't have very visible borders, so it's easy (and common) to visit other countries. So we definitely see more diversity. Of course you don't have to leave your country if you don't want to, that's your choice to make!

I currently live in Belgium since last year so I realize my privilege of having spent 30 years of my life in NL even more now, but even before moving, I was always very grateful of how good my quality of life was. I have a “friend” who is living on welfare benefits in the Netherlands because she doesn’t have a job. She has a nice apartment with 3 bedrooms, she’s attending university, her health insurance is covered, she gets a gym and public pool subscription for free, and her psychological help is covered by insurance. She actually complains about how it’s difficult to be poor in the Netherlands… I’m not saying it’s easy but I’ve lived there on €1400 per month and I think you must be very privileged if you think you’ll have it much better elsewhere. People here are so used to being taken care of. There’s always more to complain about and never a moment to be grateful.

Resonate with so much of this. Left the U.S. in 2020 and never looked back. When I finally received my E.U. citizenship, it was one of the happiest days of my life.
I think the US has forgotten the whole point of society: people working together for the greater good. And as you say, it’s not against people living their individual lives. It’s only as a group that average people like most of us can be stronger than corporations.
it never thought that way. the US was and still is a country of 'self-made' man. the onus is on the individual. the state doesn't provide. on top of that, they are all paranoid. centuries ago because of hostile natives, nowadays because of 'illegal immigrants' and lots of other threats. their recipe: everybody can carry a gun - which makes it worse.
I believe that since the beginning of European settlement on the continent, it has never been about the common good, but primarily about the self-realization of individuals or small communities.
There was never really a overarching "we."
In the US you have only the value that you can generate in profit for your owner. Yes: Owner.

I moved to the Netherlands from the US in 2022. It was the absolute BEST choice I ever could have made. I came on a spousal visa for my Dutch husband. Learning the language is tough, but I'm working on it. I'll be spending the next year taking all my Inburgering exams so I can get my citizenship. It's not a perfect country, by any means. But I have never felt more at home, more comfortable, more happy than I do here. I also live in small town, and I can't IMAGINE moving anywhere else. The people are kind and welcoming, the food is great, we have so many bakeries, butchers, cheese shops, grocery stores, all within walking distance. Our vet for our dogs and cats make house calls, if needed. My doctor and dentist are both walking distance away. Now, if the NS would just stop playing so the trains aren't so expensive!

I'm so glad you touched on the collectivism/individualism symbiosis. This combination gives a person MORE personal freedom than any so-called "free" society as it is defined in the US. This idea that "you do you" and "I do me" but we're all in this together, means so much and its hard to get that across to my American friends, so thank you.
Freedom for the average American is 'personal'= not being controlled by the state = carrying a gun. In the meanwhile, google and meta and big money completely controls their lives.
This, to me, is the dividing factor in the political parties here. The Republicans/MAGAs only care about themselves. Nothing negative matters until/unless it affects them, and even then, once they are assisted, have no desire to pay anything forward, as they believe they "deserve" the help. Democrats are less selfish but still aren't as empathetic as they could be and still don't understand that joining with everyone else is better than splintering issues up by race, gender, etc. to gain support.
I might be the odd person out here as a longtime fan of America, and I happen to know many Europeans who felt the same, went to the U.S. (or Canada, tbs) never to come back. And knowing America from my own experience, I continue to appreciate how people think, feel and act there. But after many years spent abroad, mostly Asia, and now having returned to Europe, I do appreciate every day of my life here, including what you wrote - the fantastic multifunctionality of the European cities, the multiculturality, the ease of access and transport, and at least in part the beauty of its townscapes with a history that reaches back two thousand years and more, in places, and it shows.
I sure want to go back to the U.S. again and enjoy the freedom, the openness and (partly, again) the breathtaking beauty of the landscape, the diversity of the people, the fact that you get along with just one language (no minor fact there). Also, and even more, I enjoy the fact that despite all our differences, we draw our ideals from the same sources, i.e. the ideas of the enlightenment, and my respect for what the US has achieved (with many painful trials and errors, I know) in that respect over the centuries continues to inspire me.
Even after Jan. 20. So I'll be back. After Jan. 20, 2029.
Very good video Jordan. I am a 76 year old retired Canadian. Canada is more European than American, and we appreciate the European values. We do not want to fear our children might not come home from school because of another mass murder. We do not want to get bankrupted by medical costs if badly stricken ill. Last but certainly not least, we do not want a government that has absolutely zero regard for its people and will willingly inflict pain on its populace......as a kind of "sport".

I believe you've hit the nail on the head. I'm a Brit. Worked and lived my whole life internationally, including many months in various US states, South America, Mexico, almost every European country, the Middle East, North Africa, Singapore and China. I speak several languages. Some US states brainwash their citizens, or limit access to broad modern education & healthcare depending on race and income. I get the impression it is to divide and conquer. Deceiving and financially abusing a lot of poorly-informed, hand-to-mouth, single individuals/families, is a lot easier than deceiving a community of well-educated, healthy and prosperous people.
This is an interesting trend. Every video that is like this "American living outside of America" ends with the same conclusion. And the conclusion is "we were lied to about america, and the world". Its definetly interesting to see when Americans realize this.
Yup. I have seen hundreds of these videos, and not one had the conclusion of "Man, I want to move back to the US".
Americans were stuck in a bubble on purpose.
I mean to be fair, America has one of the biggest propaganda machine in the world, to the point that it even works on people that aren't american to an extent.

It's not even close.. we're still living in NL but good chance we'll move there later in life. Recommend you to explore it ;)
The difference is "me" versus "us", i come from New Zealand and lived in Australia, currently in the UK, from what I've seen across those three countries, and European countries I've travelled around, the systems are geared for the common good. The US is certainly an outlier amongst developed countries, and even among undeveloped/ developing countries. Almost everywhere has a collective mentality, it's not perfect but it works for the vast majority, the world happiness index backs this up. From what I've seen of the US, the mere mention of changing to this sort of system brings cries off communist or socialist. Bernie Sanders appears to be the only US politician that understands the advantages these countries bring to their citizens...but of course he's a communist!!
I feel bad for all the muricans, that didn't vote for this, but i agree. The cultural differences between the USA and free democratic nations are too big and they keep growing. The rest of the world is better off without them, for now. I hope, the muricans can find a peaceful way out of this. I want my chubby, slightly naive friend back. From Spain, in the 1950s and 1960s, the United States was the model everyone envied. I traveled to New York as a tourist in the 1990s and loved it, although I was still surprised by the poor state of the infrastructure, the filth, and the poverty. My son is now working in Texas, and I've traveled there several times. In my opinion, the United States, specifically Texas, is an excellent place for highly qualified professionals to earn excellent salaries, unimaginable in Europe, but a bad place to live and where no European would want to raise their children. The United States is to capitalism what the USSR was to democratic socialism in European countries. The European welfare state is the most free, prosperous, and egalitarian social model that humanity has ever achieved.
"The United States is to capitalism what the USSR was to democratic socialism in European countries. The European welfare state is the most free, prosperous, and egalitarian social model that humanity has ever achieved."
Now this was an excellent point, never thought of it before but you're absolutely right.
Agree that it's great. But also let's not forget that it's built on centuries of imperialistic exploitation of other countries and people. Europe's wealth is built on stolen goods, lifes, and lands, which has an impact to this day in most of the global South
I travelled around Spain in the late seventies. Franco had just gone. For me, it was like going back in time a hundred years. Very right-wing police, ( they still are, to some extent) . But look at Spain today: super modern, fantastic public transport, great roads . The US really should try to model itself on Spain.
@@danganbeg7225I believe the National Police and the Civil Guard have evolved a great deal. Today, they are comparable to the police forces of any democratic European country. The majority union in the National Police is clearly progressive. Unions are not allowed in the Civil Guard, due to its military nature. In any case, the National Police and the Civil Guard are better prepared and trained and more polite than the vast majority of police forces in the United States, and above all, they are more respectful of human rights. Furthermore, here, the police don't shoot and ask questions later. On very rare occasions, a police officer in Spain draws his weapon, and when he does and shoots, it's all over the news.

I feel like USA remains the Number One Country In The World mainly because it invented that competition and it's the only one taking part in it. As a European, I've never seen countries here competing over which one is "the best." Each country is different, with its own strengths and weaknesses, but one thing we seem to share is that it's more about community than a race to be the best.
Good comment and observation. Not many of us really think about being the "best country in the world" leave alone talk about it. And most of us know that in some way some other country will be better than ours. Usually because we've been somewhere else. Which, let's face it, most Americans haven't.

"Doe nornaal, dan doe je al gek genoeg" just means, stay grounded, do not be vainglorious. You can strive to be better, original, wealthy or what ever. But stay grounded, always have an eye for your surroundings. If you have a lot of money, and plenty of Dutch do have a lot of money, just enjoy it, do not brag about it, do not show of. Besides, if you talk about individualism and achieving personal wealth and material gain, let's say " The American Dream", this idea of social mobility, was first introduced by the Dutch in the 17th century in New Amsterdam, now New York. Social mobility already existed in 17th century Amsterdam and was then carried over to New Amsterdam, where it later spread over de US as the " American Dream". The Netherlands is a very venturous country, with lots of entrepreneurs. Some of them world leading.
However, a society can be both venturous and be a well fare state. This goes for many European countries. The problem in the US is that the people in power will immediately call this "Socialism", just to brainwash the masses so they can keep them in check, which will have them profit from the current status quo, as there is hardly any country on earth, at least in the developed world, which has so much inequality. Calling certain collective things, such as healthcare and education, socialist as they would become affordable or free, is just intended to scare people.
I was shocked when I visited America recently. The destitution in some areas, the disgusting public toilets, the expensive and greasy food, the advertising, the terrible roads and infrastructure, the obvious divide between those with and those without, the obvious poor education for many.... The odd thing to Europeans on vacation to the USA, is the whole CBP interview: "Why are you here, where are you staying, when are you going home?" - Really the whole process is built on the assumption that every visitor secretly would prefer to live in the USA and probably doesn't want to go home. I feel like that's exactly because they (and whoever created the entry process) honestly belive the USA is the #1 country in the world & has never considered that people in other countries might be happy to live wherever they're from.
Thank you for this objective and honest observation. I respect how you are able to change the way you look at your country. 100% correct. I grew up in Europe and moved to LA 30 years ago. Have spent time in Valencia and just returned from a vacation in Paris. Both incredibly clean and safe cities, people out in the streets enjoying life late at night. Great infrastructure and public services. No potholes as you mentioned. People genuinely happy and polite. The only plus in America is you'll potentially make a higher salary, but with poor social safety net and healthcare standards, that extra money can evaporate quickly and you're left with stress and dread if one was to lose their employment. We're actively planning our retirement. It'll be lived in Europe, not here sadly.
I agree and get your point. But Paris aint exactly so clean anymore.
Really good reaction - greetings from your new neighbour Germany. Welcome to Europe. ♥
Kannst Du mal bitte dieses Dummgeschwafel sein lassen.

Good for you, dude! Welcome to the Netherlands!
Hey, I'm a Virginia boi, moved to Europe in '72. So when I started planning retirement, I asked whether I wanted to move back Stateside. But this screwy little sentence started bouncing around my head: "I do NOT want to grow old and frail in a country without *sidewalks* !" Sidewalks, Jordan, as you point out, that actually *take* you somewhere: doctor, shopping, public trans. And then, Switzerland has 65,000 km of marked hiking trails -- in an area half as big as Virginia ! Last time I saw a "No Trespassing" sign was in the States. Land of the free, Baby ! !
I love visiting Europe. I lived there for 3 months about 20 years and I return every chance I can. I’m returning this summer for a month with my two kids and I’ve already instilled a love of Europe with my 17 year old. Love from Canada!
We do love Canadians very much ! Love from France
@ I noticed that when in France. As soon as I mentioned Canada, many would ask how close I lived to Quebec ❤️ I’m right across the river from La Belle Province. Fière fille d’un franco-Ontarien.
No, Europe has no collectivist mentality. Just we are aware of " do not do to the others, if you do not want them to do it to yourself", and that " your liberty ends where my neighbor's starts". This gives enough individuality to you and others as well.
We have the collective idea of : My person is important as much as my neighbour. We pay taxes so each and everyone of us have what they need (health, infrastructure, education) even if you don't have the money on an individual level. We act in a way to not disturb our fellow citizens. I've not seen any of this in the US or seen any American citizen think that way either. All they think about it's them or their close family and friends.
It's all about looking out for your fellow humans instead of putting others down in order to get on top. The constant rush for material possessions and money is what has always irked me about the US, if you don't participate in the race to the top then you're left behind. Here in Sweden, if you brag about how much money you make or the expensive shit you buy, NOBODY will want to associate with you. Because life isn't about that, and bragging about money makes you seem extremely selfish and uncaring. Selfish and uncaring people have no place in a group of friends, that's what the 'collectivist mentality' is really about.
I think these words already have some bad taste attached. The idea of a group taking some level of care of its members - is it collectivism already?
@@koborkutya7338no, it's just a good idea that everyone is on board with. We are hugely divided over just about every other issue - but to be able to be on the same page about this one is what makes a country great, not the ability to chug out as many billionaires as possible.
Low cost of living, high quality of life, free healthcare, free schools, pensions funded by the community and not investment funds, EU laws protecting prisoners, the poor and the diseased, aaaaaand the common farming policy = that's literally collectivism, buster.
Dutch guy here. As soon as I saw your interior and garden I was like... this is the Netherlands :p Glad you like it here. I think we take all the good things you mention for granted here, so seeing your point of view made me appreciate it again. It's always nice to hear an outside perspective.
American living in the Netherlands, here. I thought the same thing when looking at Jordan's surroundings!
Welcome to the Netherlands, Jordan. My husband and I (both American) have been living in NL since the beginning of 2020 and intend to stay. So much to be grateful for here. As an English language teacher, I appreciate your articulation and love that a non-native English speaker pointed out in a comment how easy it is to understand you. However, Zurich is pronounced like "Zurick" with a 'k' sound at the end, not an English 'ch' sound. I found your incorrect pronunciation of this very distracting!
This video should be a reminder to my European fellow citizens, let's not ruin what we have by voting the individualistic, selfish and xenophobic far right political parties, please!
Great idea, vote the same and continue to let your European countries get over run with migrants who hate the people and culture of their host country. Your leaders have allowed violence and hate into Europe at the native citizen's expense, so sad.
Far right is not bad in Europe, they just want to keep religion at bay. Religion that is not particularly known for progress.
People like you telling others how they should, or shouldn’t vote, are likely to be the downfall of the U.K.
Hey, why are crime statistics skyrocketed last 15 years in UK and Sweden, but not in Poland? Also if you ask this in UK you go to jail.
@Missydee-72 I am no telling but asking politely
Thank you for your deep and well expressed explanation on the differences, going to the core of the problem. I'm glad you've found your place to live and I wish you all the best in the Netherlands 😊
Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹
Welcome in Europe and nice to hear that you already picked up on the more subtle parts of our different yet connected cultures.
Well done on choosing my Husband's motherland Nederland. We live in England, as I'm English and his job was here. Our village has 760 houses. We're in Nederland at least 6 times a year and drive door to Family door in 8 hours. I recognised the Dutch architecture through your window on the film! Goed zo Jordan en Fijne Dagen😊
Yet the myth is still perpetrated that eveyone outside the US is desperate for a US Green Card. No amount of money could persuade me to move from Europe to the US. I live in Portugal, having moved from the UK 23 years ago. There are many other countries in Europe I could see myself living happily. I cannot think of anywhere in the US that I would want to live, even temporarily. So no thank you. We don't all want a Green Card.
That is so funny. I remember almost 20 years ago when I was like 20 years old, I saw fake banner in some random internet page saying "you won green card to USA, click here to get it!" Even then I was thinking that "damn these fake adds are bad, who would actually want to get green card for USA?" 😂
Cubans and ppl from africa or south america would want i guess
Not europeans, they have better lifestyle
The only reason Mexicans come to the US is because they can walk to it.

Mexicans
🤣
I live in Portugal too, and I never want to go back to the US, even for a visit.
I was born and raised in the USA particularly in So. Cal. between 76' and 86'. I had joined the army and came to Germany in 87'. During these 4 years in the army I would fly home once a year to see family and friends, there were very few homeless at this time. I ended up staying in Germany and in 2006 flew back to LA with my wife and was completely shocked how many homeless people were roaming the beaches and the city. Things have definitely changed. Your experience with cheap groceries is also a point I noticed over the years, almost like they made groceries so expensive in the states that it wasn't worth it to buy and cook yourself. It was cheaper just to go out to eat for sure. Germany, we buy and cook our food and it's way cheaper/healthier than a Restaurant. Interesting to see your points Jordan, thank you for an excellent video my friend!
I am Spaniard and maybe I speak with pride of my country, but lately the Spanish cities are in the first places of quality of life in the world, I have traveled a little in Europe and I can confirm what you say.
I also have friends who have lived in Chicago and they confirm everything you say about how they have put in your head that you live in the best country in the world without even having traveled to other countries in the world or simply having informed you about how to live abroad
Spain ❤❤❤
Chicago is nothing but a dumpster fire, hard to believe you have friends. We get it that you have the same biases for your country as the States do
@@hectorines1 Spain has one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe.
Not even close to Netherlands or Switzerland.
I know, but it's declining very rapidly and is expected to continue. Ask any European citizen about the standard of living here. People live to 84 thanks to excellent public healthcare, rich and varied cuisine, a very safe country, and a good work-life balance.
@@Mxke818And standards of living when unemployed in a country like spain can still be higher than when having 2 simultaneous temporary jobs in the US. So unemployment rate doesn't really tell the full story.
Welcome to Europe, it‘s nice to have you here!
Such a great video! i really liked the last part u did, even as a dutchman it really rings true.
Keep up the good content!
Love from Valencia, my friend!
French here 🙂For once, it's an intelligent speech that doesn't criticize any particular country. Just an authentic comparison and an interesting sharing of experience-thank you!
As a European who lived in the US for 10 years, when I first landed in LAX, my first thought was : I'm back in Africa.
My wife told me the same and she's african.
I’m from Germany and in my opinion the safety point is so sad🥲 I always walk home alone as a female or take the bus. Of course there were some situations where I felt a little bit anxious, but 90% of the time I feel safe. And every time I hear Americans talkt about the safety problem I realise how grateful I can be for that🙏🏼
We would never say that our country is the best in the world, that would be incredibly chauvinistic and arrogant.
and true
If you're in the US, that's a lie.... American's, make that statement all the time.... Even stupid African American's, say that now they've got fame and money.... Dummies...
Ohh, I can't stand it....Americans are so ignorant and they lack humility!
I can work with arrogance since arrogance can be humbled. My issue is with cultural exceptionalism; you can do nothing with that, and everything done by the person with cultural exceptionalism will always be the best since they're exceptional and thus their way of doing this is as well, else an exceptional person would never do it.
Cultural exceptionalism only gives you exceptional incompetence, as you never think of how things can be done better, as you already do them the best and most exceptional way.
We still thinking it though even if we won't say it 😉. But seriously the netherlands is defently in the top of good country's to live in probable not the best but i don't think you can name 10 country's that would beat us overall.
Good choice to live jn Europe! I suggest you to visit also Italy! It is impressive the beauty of Italy !
As a French I second that Italy is a beautiful country and the people are great.
Most beautiful country in the world in my opinion ❤
Cool analysis, enjoyed every second, thank you, smart and wise human
Welcome to Europe, you have 'come home' It takes courage to make the move, but you knew that it was right for you.
I wish you a very happy life 🙋♀️🇬🇧🤗
GB is not quite Europe though. It's more like a colony of Pakistan.
What a lovely articulate video. I am Scottish British and have been to the US many times. Lovely for a short visit but living there is a non starter. Sure for the very successful the US is great. As someone said we try and look after the top 80%-the US is brilliant for the top 20%-
My son and his wife are just back from Texas-he said exactly the same.
Ive subscribed.
Try visiting Edinburgh--I believe you would love it.
Yeah when I went to the USA I thought fun place to visit but would not want to live there. Sadly I feel like the UK is becoming more like the USA.
@@littlebirdoflightBritain always felt it had a special relationship with the U.S. But I’ve always thought sharing a language was the biggest part of it. Britain shared its values with its European neighbours but has been gradually dragged towards the U.S. by brexit, the Tories and the media.
@ Yes, I must say when I visited the US years ago I had more of a culture shock than any other European country I visited.
Really good video, man! Regarding "doe normaal" (somebody else here in the comments said it also), it's better understood as staying grounded. As in: dont forget youre just a human being like the rest of us, that kind of stuff. In the Netherlands we dont look down on the acquisition of wealth, but we think bragging about ones wealth or thinking that having more wealth makes you a better person, we disapprove of that attitude. Thats kind of what "doe normaal" refers to. Its an invitation to remember who you are / bring people down to earth. Hope you continue to enjoy life in the netherlands (and europe) :)
Aka F you if you think you're better than me 😂😂
My favourite Scottish saying is "We're all Jock Tamson's bairns" meaning we are all human beings, part of the same family and we look out for each other. Not claiming we all make it or always get it right, that is part of being human too, but by and large we try.
@@keithewright love that attitude :)
Wat leuk om jouw mening te horen over Nederland! Het maakt mij weer bewust dat we dankbaar mogen zijn in dit land. Ik hoop dat je gelukkig mag worden met je vriendin in ons 🐸 landje.😊. Hartelijke groet! Andre
