    As a completely new viewer I enjoyed this episode a lot. The transition of the meep going from cute and cuddly to wanting to burn everything was brilliantly done

    What I loved about it was it's direction.
    While I really enjoyed Jodie's first season, her following seasons felt very low energy and lacking in real direction, which is a problem I've also had with the other Disney+ series too honestly but man this felt like a real reboot the series needed.
    I'm really excited for the next special and Ncuti's first series

    It was such a gooooood episode! David Tennant and Catherine Tate are back on form and it felt like they never left! I agree 100% with your fantastic review, I can't wait for the next one!!!

    I absolutely loved this one, it’s not necessarily the most groundbreaking story, but it was a blast, so entertaining with a great pace and energy. Not too indulgent, but a few nice references, and had some sentimental moments that felt pretty hard hitting, Tennant’s acting at points was so strong.

    David & Catherine back at their best! I'm not an avid Dr Who or sci-fi fan, I have watched it a bit over the years, mainly when Christopher Ecleston, David & Matt played the Dr.
    However, David has always been my fav Dr and he plays him so well! Really enjoyed the episode. I like there is a mix of comedic moments, as well as drama & emotional scenes. I've just watched the 2nd special and it was great as well. Just hoping the 3rd will not be too bittersweet 😢 Looking forward to your reviews on the other 2 specials, but no rush! Good luck with the panto! Beauty & the Beast is my fav show! ❤

    I liked it, I feel like the dynamic between characters (the back and forth) feels a bit more natural than it was in the Whitaker years and I liked the twists in it. Not going to lie, I was kinda nervous watching this since it felt like if they didn’t make a good first impression, it would’ve been hard to come back from that, hopefully they succeeded. Just a minor thing, It was a bit weird not seeing a next time trailer after the credits, the trailer for the next episode is on places like TH-cam, but that’s just a minor thing.

    I feel like this is something I'd have to reserve full judgment for until after The Giggle, but I will say for now that that was a real fun opener, and Tennant and Tate effortlessly slipped back into their roles after so long. The new screwdriver's ability to create things out of energy like viewing screens or shields was an interesting concept, although it begs the question, does it make it feel too OP now? Special mention goes to the new TARDIS console room, I really love it; might end up being my favourite one yet. Got rather mixed feelings on the new opening titles, though. I don't know how to feel about the resolution of the DoctorDonna either, but I guess RTD had to pull something out, although part of me thinks this might not actually be the end of it, and it might be when NPH comes in to play.

    I loved seeing David Tennant & Catherine Tate back, as well as all the callbacks! 🙌 Overall "Star Beast" was a fun first special, but they were some things I disliked. I love Doctor Who! 💜

    This was such a great episode. For me of of the best RTD Doctor who episode. For me the only thing that bothered me was this felt like a classic Who episode not like an anniversary special like the 3 Doctors or the 5 Doctors or Day of the Doctor. But we just do not know if the other 2 will be more like a proper anniversary special. Well done RTD cast and crew.

    I thought it was super ok, not great not terrible, just a reasonably entertaining piece of fluff. As a 60th special it was a bit underwhelming. However there some nice character moments, shots that looked nice although I don’t think it looked as good Jodie’s episodes but that’s just me. Tennant was quite good I enjoyed more in this than in his previous era, I’m still not the biggest Donna fan but she was ok in this story. The TARDIS looks lovely.

    Hope to see wilf somewhere in the 3 parts - guess we will see

  • @Stephen-Fox
    @Stephen-Fox ปีที่แล้ว

    Based on the commentary track for this episode, the Wilf scene wasn't for this episode rather than things getting reshot.
    Loved it overall. A couple of elements I wasn't as keen on - The ending didn't quite land for me as well as it has done for a lot of people, and while I can see the script utility of the screwdriver making bulletproof shields and on paper how that was an extension of the screen ability of the screwdriver which I much prefer to the Doctor assessing what it's just scanned by... Listening to it and/or a psychic connection which doesn't really 'read' on screen, that felt like it was a stretch too far for my tastes as a thing the screwdriver can do.
    It... Mitigates some of the concerns I had about RTD returning to the role of showrunner (although those concerns really only applied to Gatwa's series, since I don't mind an Anniversary special being a bit of a throwback.

    Great to have DT CT back, knew the story from the magazine & Big Finish & hope they're going to raid the archives for more great stories. Sorry but the actor playing Rose was awful, more wooden than the Tardis, worst since Tosin 'splinter' Cole.
    Couldn't care less about 'wokeness' whatever that is but they did try to tick every possible box in such a short time. And that's a problem, it makes it look like it's all there to make a statement rather than just the norm, so has the opposite effect intended.
    Typical of RTD, rushed, there was sense to the old 4 episodes 25 minutes, cliffhangers every week, give your story time to breathe.
    Of course can't have that now, everything has to be instant, not always for the better.

  • @owenmcgheeandbdawg
    @owenmcgheeandbdawg ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Glad to see you again.
    I agree with almost everything you have said.
    I really love the way that Donna and Rose shared the Biological Metacrisis AND the way that Rose being non-binary was dealt in a non-woke way.
    The opening credits were beautiful.
    The only thing I slightly disagree with is your opinion on the TARDIS interior but that's a minor disagreement.
    Well Acted
    Well Scripted
    Well Made
    Well Done.
    Hope panto is all going well.

  • @TediousMilkshake
    @TediousMilkshake ปีที่แล้ว +4

    My main nitpicks:
    -the opening titles look like a racing programme in the way the angles keep changing and zooming in
    -the villain was really hard to take seriously
    -i'm not satisfied with the resolution to doctordonna and seems a bit underwhelming
    - the new console room seems bland, empty and lacks personality

  • @blastfromthepast-o1d
    @blastfromthepast-o1d ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Will they do a follow-up story set a couple of years later when Rose realises that she's been brainwashed at an impressionable age by the insane pro-trans movement and decides she wants a reversal of the reversal? Given that transitioning causes more problems than it solves, surely that's the correct thing to do? Doctor Who is not pro-trans propaganda. Or rather it wasn't...

    Such a typical woke world we live in nowadays. Could have just had one line mentioning trans and then move on and give us a proper sci-fi adventure with sci-fi resolutions, but it's just trans crap constantly. Terrible. Even the solution is trans crap with binary, non-binary rubbish.

    • @iHateAlexMusic
      @iHateAlexMusic ปีที่แล้ว +5

      These issues that people (like Rose Noble) need to be talked about though. Sorry if it ruins the story for you, but you need to understand what these people go through in their daily life due to the rise of transphobia. At the end of the day, everyone's human therefore everyone deserves as much respect as the average.

      Why does it need to be talked about? You have no idea the kind of lives people are living in parts of the world nobody even knows. Why do trans people get this special treatment? I'm watching Doctor Who for science fiction escapism, not a lecture on gender identity.

    • @iHateAlexMusic
      @iHateAlexMusic ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@DeeMcg-lo2jr Well it does. Transphobia is happening a lot more now. If you've seen the episode, you'll be aware of that incident that happened in the show. This actually happens, if not worse. It's a problem that we are facing in today's society and we need to do all we can to tackle these issues. That's why we need to.

    You think the creators would read the room and ditch the whole ridiculous gender and LGBTQ story moments they love to shoe in. It let the Chibnall era down a great deal. Getting called up on your pronouns when talking to what is simply a giant space furby give me strength.
    I'm starting to think the doctor has some form of amnesia, cause he makes a big deal of Donna dying if she remembers him only for him to dance into her life again as if that wasn't a problem spouting all sorts

    • @ennayanne
      @ennayanne ปีที่แล้ว +10

      They did read the room, hence why they're making people like you mad. And I love it. Maybe it's you who should read the room?

    • @JustChrisWillDoTa
      @JustChrisWillDoTa ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You say read the room, but I suspect the more bigots and ghouls try to make trans people's lives generally miserable, the more important Russell will find it to have good inclusive representation in the show, and he's probably right. It is important, and it's very easy to think it's bollocks when we're used to having shows aimed squarely at us forever. Trans people seem to find it meaningful and positive, so even if the lines weren't the best, so what. Most of the episode was great, and if what Russell is doing makes others enjoy it more while still being good for right minded people of all types, then that's all good.
      The worst thing in the episode was the resolution of the metacrisis feeling rushed and easy, with them just letting it go. The splitting it between Donna and her child is a good idea, but I don't think it quite stuck the landing.

      We live in a diverse world where people come from all walks of life. Diversity of thought, culture, religion and ethnicity. This is something to celebrate as it’s this diversity that makes us stronger. This is how we learn, grow and evolve. I don’t know how you can call yourself a fan of Doctor Who and not understand this…
      LGBTQIA+ people exist and have existed going back to the dawn of humanity. We will continue to exist and our art should reflect that. It’s wonderful to see our stories finally being told.

      @@Tolstoy111 You are misrepresenting the story, they discuss pronoun preferences sure, however at no point, was the Doctor lectured at, or about their proper use. Although I’m sure that’s how you read the scene… You sound exactly like the type who’d flatly ignore and refuse to acknowledge a persons preferred pronouns out of a misguided sense of self righteousness.
