  • Putting the heavy 830 tandem to work doing exactly what it was designed to do. The sled doesn't stand a chance. This John Deere 830 tandem Munroe hitch was designed and built in Didsbury, Alberta to grant area farmers a level of drawbar horsepower that simply wasn't available commercially in those days. It spent it's years pulling heavy implements on the Alberta prairie until it was replaced by the massive company built articulated tractors that we know today. Power is delivered from two Deere 7.7 litre diesel two cylinder engines and this setup deliver's roughly 135 horsepower to the drawbar, a pulling power almost a decade ahead of it's time. A special thanks goes to the Spreeman family who maintain and operate her for the joy of thousands. Pioneer Acres Museum, Irricana, Alberta.

    We had a 830 on a ranch back in the 60s. Blake Ranches at Hereford, Colorado had a married 830.

    That tractor could pull two of those sleds and never lose a rpm. That's some mega torque. Nothing runs like a Deere.

    I drove that set when I was a kid on the farm in the Olds area.. great to see they are still running and have a good home .

      Got to thinking that's been like 50 years ago time goes by fast. We had a set of 820s as well.. wonder what ever happened to them

    Finally! At last I now know where the phrase; "Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this thing around" came from. My mind is at ease, LOL!

    Too bad the EPA banned the practice of tandem 830's due to the extra stress on the tectonic plates.

    Consider this. You're looking at a 4 cylinder, 140 horsepower tractor.

    Yup thats sure a neat set up for sure! My dad and I both have several old John Deere and ih's fixed up and have often thought about becoming members and bringing tractors to this show.

    At 4:20, is that the TF2 Engineer's voice line being used? And again towards the end.
    Neat arrangement on the tractor, though the having to shift gears in seperate places part is a bit awkward.

      Ding Ding! You nailed it, I love that game. Anyways, you can shift both transmissions from the rear platform, but he likes to make absolute sure it's correct for pulling since you don't get a mulligan. Problem is he can't actually see the quadrant itself from the drivers seat, you have to do it by feel.

    This is clearly a demonstration pull only. That sled was never made to stop these tractors, so cool video, but really shows nothing for the ability of the tractor

    • @Rainhill1829
      @Rainhill1829  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're right, it was a demonstration pull. The tractor is well above the limit of the highest weight class in the competition so it wasn't eligible to compete. This particular sled is limited to about 90 horsepower, anything more and it can't stop it, this particular tractor makes over 140.

      Odd looking perhaps, but that model was one of the most fuel efficient tractors ever made, see Nebraska Tractor Tests. So even double, it was more efficient than a D6 cat of similar vintage and the double would pull more than the d6.

      +svt might be silly, but the money they saved over buying a pre-made one wasn't silly. Many of the larger articulating tractors that companies made met a lonely fate as they were just too expensive for most farmers to buy.
