    Mya did so well with her alert! I love that She keeps looking up to check on you! Too make sure you’re not having a medical episode. I find that really sweet!!!

    I have a service dog and all I can say is that when they have a don’t pet sign on the service dog that means do not touch bc they are working and there very important bc they are keeping there owner safe and not from having a medical emergency like I had someone come up to my service dog the other day and bc they distracted my service dog I fainted and didn’t have any help from my service dog bc she was distracted by the people touching her

    I went to the mall the other day with my service dog (cardiac alert, I have heart problems and I faint a lot I also have ptsd and asthma) and this Karen had a dog that clearly was not a service dog and let her dog off leash when she saw me I told her to recall her dog and she said that her dog just wanted to play and I responded that dogs were not allowed in the store and that my dog is a service dog who cannot play while she is working and that that was very rude my service dog (her name is lady) started to alert me that I had I high heart rate and that I needed to sit down. The Karen then proceeded yell racial slurs at me ( I am Puerto Rican and first native) and I started to sit down cause I released that lady was alerting me to sit down and when I was sitting down her kid grabbed lady's tail and lady yelped and cried the kid had dislocated her tail I then started to yell at the mom ad while I was doing that the Karens dog started barking and lunging at lady. Even after the Karen told the dog to stop and had clearly seen her dog doing this she let her dog off leash and her dog attacked lady so I obviously kicked the dog and the Karen started yelling at me saying that I kicked her dog for reason and yes I did kick her dog but for a good damn reason. After a while I started feeling better so I got up and started walking away and at first the Karen followed me but then turned around. As I was about to leave a kid ran up and scared me on purpose and I screamed the kid started laughing and said"haha got you" I then started having an asthma attack and managed to walk over to a store near me and went to the help desk there the staff was super nice and when the kids mom found me and started yelling at me one of the staff members pushed her out of the store and put it on lock down.

      @@vynz70 the handles really shouldn’t be more than 5/6in off the back. That’s when you really need a taller dog. But some people do it fine. And if their dogs have been cleared for mobility then they do what they want. Not my business. Lol.

    How come your prong collar isn't fit properly? Being down that low can be dangerous and it needs to be right behind the ears and back of head

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is. She has a fat neck with a lot of skin. It moves some. But it’s still proper placement. Mid/low placement could cause damage.

      Her handle is only 5 inches it’s just the angle. She isn’t doing any heavy mobility yet as Mya doesn’t have all her X-rays done yet but if I remember correctly she will be getting them done in a few months, then she will start actually heavy mobility.

    Was she thinking of alerting because you were swaying? But because the scent for high heart rate was not yet present she did not? That is my guess

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      My heart rate was high the whole trip. But sometimes it’ll fluctuate down a bit before spiking back up super high again. I think that’s what happened. It was fluctuating some, so she left it alone. If you look at my watch you can see that all the bars were red. So my heart had been high and spiking the whole trip.
      I can walk around with it at 130 for a while. Then it may drop down to 112 or something. Then it can spike back up sometimes going even higher than before.
      I’m complicated lol.

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I haven’t taught her to alert to swaying because I do it so much. It would get on my nerves every time I swayed if she alerted to it.

      @@ServiceDogPaws right since it’s not the crucial medical issue. For me, living with MS I seat and seat into walls and sometimes almost into people so my SDIT will hopefully be able to guide me straight when I’m walking. My month older pup will be one next month, so that task has to wait for at least another year or two. I do want to teach her how to pick stuff up that I drop as well. And some how alert when I’m getting too hot or too fatigued to sit before I feel like my legs will give out or feel like I’ll pass out. When I do too much And I get warm or too tired, I notice I have a harder time getting in and out of vehicles and my legs want to give out. I have cooling vests to help with heat. I’m a low fall risk but even training two puppies under one since 8 and 12 weeks, I fell twice in the same exact spot in the same week over the stupid tree trunk out of the ground lol. But I haven’t fallen since that I can remember. We’re still learning the basics. I’m not a trainer so I’m learning myself how to train them and hoping the older one will make it all the way through to full SD since she’s taller and does well in the car. I want to get patches and Velcro them to her regular no pull harness and a leash wrap. I’ve been tempted to bring her with me inside Walgreens but she’s not ready for non pet friendly places yet. She has a thing of when she gets startled or smells something strange to her she has a high pitch bark with her head tilted back like a wolf lol and I have to redirect and get her attention by walking her away from the distraction. Either if it’s another pet or person. And then she’s quiet and can be pet if they ask. Which right now I let people pet her and have baked and dehydrated treats I made to give the person to say hi. I’m gonna ask them to give her a treat or shake rather than smelling their hand. I think the people who have ranches or other animals is the scents she’s not used to. I want to teach her to wave or high five to say hi. I learn a lot from your channel and Erika’s. Thanks for educating us newbies! By the way, I was tempted to take her into Walgreens with me just to see how she would act. But I want her better in pet friendly places first. So I didn’t take her in with me.
      How did you teach Mya how to use the escalator? Was she afraid at first? Try to bark at it or how did the process go to use elevators and escalators?

  • @felix_hobi8207
    @felix_hobi8207 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought dogs were t allowed to get on escalators ???

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s whether they’ve been trained properly to do it. Or training to. It can be risky. Better when dogs have shoes on so their nails don’t get caught. Teaching the dog to jump on, then jump over and off to avoid the belt, some people carry, and then elevators. Which you have to also be careful with, if the door closes on the leash for some crazy reason it could hang your dog.
