the pace of development in the 6-odd weeks the game has been in release beta has been breathtaking. Seems the game is doing well in sales too, and the mod community now has a stable base on which to build mods on, all of it which would mean we have a game with a lot of longevity in our hands. I'm pretty sure we'll see the DLC that the devs talked about. They mentioned wanting to add the type IXs as DLC...and maybe the type XXI. The XXI I'm not really that interested it (not gonna say no to it if it comes, tho), but the Type IX would be a massive addition to the game :)
@@ramjb Type IX doesn't really interest me, unless they add IXC, which includes Radar - that would actually add a new mechanic to the game. Type XXI is *the* got-to, if you want to have new features in the game (radars, sonars, all that jazz). The only new mechanic plain Type IX would bring are external torpedo containers, which are... meh.
@@SkywalkerWroc Type IX adds new capabilities (mostly range, but also a more powerful deck gun, and a lot more torpedoes) without adding new mechanics. Radar in uboats was very rarely used, even if present in the submarine, as it was (rightly) believed that given it's relatively short range and capabilities it would give out the position of the submarine well before it could detect anything itself. Type XXI I disagree with. It's capabilities are so much beyond what the allies can counter, it's totally OP. Also should only be present in the very last days of the war, if at all. I'd rather see the 2nd most numerous uboat type of the war make it into the game, at least, make it first :)
@@SkywalkerWroc SH3 with mods was extremely good. I don't know how much variety in the types of ships they've got now in UBOAT. Last time I played they basically had one type of tanker, one type of Aircraftcarrier and one type of Battleship. They were like saying that's an escort carrier but the 3D model was a full size normal carrier. SH3 had at least like 5 types of Battleships (Hood, Rodney, King George V, Renown, Queen Elizabeth) 3 types of carries, 8 types of destroyers and corvettes, 4 types of tankers, 3 types of passenger/troop ships, 4 types of heavy freighters, 4 types of medium freighters and 6 types of small freighters or so. I'd say, if they fixed that and as soon as the Type IX and the Type XXI are available, it definitely is. But without that SH3 with mods still feels more complete than UBOAT. And I need a better graphic card to actually take advantage of the better graphics of the game.
Keep in mind that this game has been developed by a very small indie dev team, while Silent Hunter 3 had a pretty large studio behind it, backed by one of the biggest (Scummiest, but still, biggest) publishers in the gaming industry, Ubisoft... So yes, ship models are limited, at least in base game. Mods will do a lot to solve that once they catch up with the released game version (in fact, during Early Access mods like UBE did exactly that, so it's only a matter of time). And I'm hoping for future updates from the developers including more ship models and types... But for the time being what's there, if lacking in variety, does more than enough to cover the bases of a really, really, good subsim :).
for crew management I have a dedicated tutorial that might help you. Check on my tutorial playlist. Crew management at first might seem confusing and even daunting, but after understanding the ins and outs of it, you can get your new sub on a perfectly good schedule/tasks fit in less than 5 minutes :).
I really like your videos for UBoat. As for performance (and temps), it helped me a lot to change from "Fullscreen" to "Fullscreen Borderless", so windowed borderless. Fullscreen is turned on by default, at least it was for me.
Started the career with a type IIA and dont know how to unlock the type VII B , only the type IID is unlocked, how do you unlock the more advanced subs😢
Probably a Type VII in Lorient, 1940. The "happy times" was in that era, and the Type VII is a much more capable submarine than the type IIA. Once you get the hang of how things work in game (particularily so when it involves managing fuel, the trickiest part of the Type IIA), it's time to give the little canoe a try :). It's a very fun sub, but a demanding one.
@@ArkhBaegor I just started too, it's a bit difficult but keep 2 engineer officers on board and always keep one assigned to the engines with 2 crew members. Then have one of them maintain the torpedos during shift changes. Another thing I do is when I'm not actively looking for an enemy or real close to the UK I always post an officer to navigation with one crew. Just do regular hydrophone checks.
Something that even SH3 got wrong and that always irked me a little, even though it's just a minor detail: the type IIA was a pure training boat and never used in combat. They should have made the type IIB available instead.
Actually no, all, or almost all, of the Type IIAs served in active roles at some point, during the early war. U-3 and U-4 were actually credited with several sinkings during their active deployements. They spent most of the war being used as training boats, that's true, but they did see active service too :).
watch my "10 tips for kaleuns" video, in that one I give some advice on how to find out information about targets, and I explain the 90º attack method. If you're still having trouble after that, watch my TDC tutorials, and maybe watch my U-4 career too. Lots of torpedo firing in that series :).
My only issue now is I started a new game over the weekend but for some reason fuel is unlimited now and there is no option to change it on realistic settings. Anyone have a solution?
difficulty settings are locked in once you start a career. No way to change them, I think it's meant to prevent "cheesing" achievements, etc... So if the reason you have unlimited fuel is because of difficulty settings, I'm afraid the only solution is going to be start a brand new career :/
The type IIA, yes, it was Germany's version of a coastal submarine. very small range, limited torpedo loadout, not really fit for anything other than the baltic and North Sea. Most of those submarines were soon transferred to training flotillas, once the production of bigger Type VII and IXs took off.
