    32-bit float and its benefits are great! But we chose a different approach - because 32-bit float also has its limitations.
    While the flexibility of the dynamic range 32-bit offers can't be overlooked, this isn't the only part of the signal chain that can cause issues for your recording. A 32-bit float file format won't be able to prevent issues related to the microphone capsule overloading on loud noises - which will also cause the recording to clip.
    With Profile Wireless we have chosen another path to minimize the risk of audio clipping: Safety Channel Mode. Instead of increasing from 24-bit to 32-bit, Profile Wireless features stereo recording on the transmitter that records with two different audio levels, thereby maximizing the used audio bandwidth of the microphone capsule and reducing the chance of clipped audio. The integrated capsule has a max SPL of 113 dB, and the Safety Channel Mode functionality is also applicable when an external lavalier is connected. (e.g. an ME 2 lav provides up 130dB SPL)

      Does the bit depth have any relation to a microphone capsule overloading on loud noises? I understand that having a safety channel on 24 bit can offer similar safety to using a single channel with 32 bit, but if your microphone capsule is overloading, won’t either option fail to save the audio coming from that overloaded capsule? Asking for a friend. Me, i’m the friend.

      Apologies for my language but thats total BS. I know that you guys definitely know what you are talking about but the consumers clearly prefer 32 bit. I got super exited for Sennheiser to finally enter this market and was ready to sell my Rode for this one, but I left disappointed. I love you for all other products though :)

      @@GeorgeFerree You are correct - any overloading at the start of the signal chain (i.e. the capsule) wouldn't be recoverable regardless of the bit depth you're recording in and that distortion would then be baked into your audio. Our approach with the Safety Mode is to ensure both your output and your input is covered by a -6dB variance to protect you from spikes. The integrated capsule has a max SPL rating of 113 dB which should cover everything from a yell to a chainsaw to a rock concert. If you need more SPL, our ME 2 lav mic gets you to 130 dB. The main idea is to use the backup recording in Profile Wireless if - and only if - you really need to. With the Safety Mode, you'll have multiple options baked into your footage (i.e. from the output) as well as at your source (i.e. transmitter recordings with original and -6 dB reductions).

      DJI and Rhode both offer 2 channel safety recording to the receiver while 32bit float recording internally. Also, if you spend even a little time with your gear you'll learn the best settings to avoid the overload situation almost entirely. We don't need more set it and forget it portable 2.4ghz mics, we need quality mics with flexability built in for addition post options. Or we need wireless solutions not caught up in 2.4ghz only... Crazy choice for 2024, best of luck to you guys.

    The one thing that stands out at this level of mics is that they included a 3.5mm locking connector... big plus for me. 32 bit float is nice, but I'd take 24 with the locking connector all day.
    I love my Lark Max but wish they had locking connectors to give me more confidence that people moving around won't come unplugged.

    •  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +12

      They are just going in a different path, because 32bit float makes no real difference in small wireless systems like this. At the end of the day it's the mic that decides if your audio will clip or not, and the types of mics these wireless systems use can't handle that high dBSPL anyways so 32bit float is mostly pointless.

  • @julienajarry

    If it doesn’t have 32-bit float, it is one generation behind the competition. Besides that the competition has an ecosystem build around it. With DJI and Rode you can wirelessly connect to their products. With no 32-bit float Sennheiser is more competing with brands like Shure, Hollyland, etc.
    There is no price mentioned but if it’s more expensive it will be another hurdle you have to take.

    Complaining about "no 32-bit float" is giving the same energy of "how many megapixels" the latest camera has. Personally, I'll take refinement over features every time.

    • @rumenalexandrov
      @rumenalexandrov 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I would have to disagree with you! I am sure the audio quality is extremely good, but 32 bit give you way more flexibility, and for those types of mics I want that. I dont mind 24 bit on a field recorder which is constantly monitored, but how people use those - often are not monitored by anyone.

    I've had Sennheiser UHF ENG microphones since the 90s, a broadcast standard until 2020. Then with the introduction of frequencies for DTT/DTT2, and the compression of radio frequencies to make way for 3G, 4G LTE, 5G telephony I switched to the 2.4 Ghz wireless model. But it is surprising how today a brand like Sennheiser that has been operating since 1945, known in the professional and broadcast world, has no longer evolved, remaining to the standard of 24-bit digital recording. And it's not like she lacks technology..

    • @KevinJacksKC
      @KevinJacksKC 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yeah, I was thinking that too! But then I realized that this product isn’t looking for professionals. It’s $299 and it’s a Sennheiser. That’s pretty cheap considering. I don’t know.

    • @clabart
      @clabart 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In fact, it's cheap to be Sennheiser. Beyond my sentence, I have to say 2 things:
      1) when Sennheiser was one of the undisputed leaders in the professional market and broadcast its products were quite expensive, today probably with the recently born competition (those you mentioned DJI and Rode, but there are also others) it positioned its new products at an affordable price.
      2) regarding the approach to 32-bit recording, Sennheiser, in a video presentation on its YT channel, explained why it preferred to keep the digital stream at 24 bit to avoid overloading Microphone capsule audio prevents backup recording; taking the reasons given by Sennheiser, a possible audio overload on the capsule can prevent backup recording even on 24-bit stream or not?

    Sennheiser, this isn't working. Looks like you people basically copied the DJI model and stamped "Sennheiser" on it. No 32 bit float internal recording either. Honestly, I have been a Sennheiser fan for quite a while (and still am) but this is product is not cuttting it, I get they are targeting the prosumer market, but even for THAT market, for the prosumer market, the competition from DJI and Rode has them beat... in particular with batt life, distance before signal loss, and the 32 bit float internal recording. - really disappointing because Sennheiser makes great products and first to the game.

    It comes everything needed except for the 32 bit float recording. Holding that charger mic thing in front of someone’s face is ugly. Sennheiser is really great with making high quality products but why they made this thing is somehow uncharacteristic of Sennheiser. For this price, consumers will be better off with buying the Hollyland Lark M2.
