So, this morning I wanted to wear olive color jeans. I picked out a white t-shirt, leopard print loafers and a belt...and a waterfall cardigan. When I put it on, it looked terrible so I switched it to a round hem one like the cocoon style. It looked much better. Then I came to my office area to apply make up and watch your video - ON CARDIGANS!!!! Love that I am feeling more confident in my choices and that is 100% thanks to you two. Have a beautiful day!

I am in my 20s trying to figure out my style and looking for tips to look more elegant. Most young fashion is now skewed to Gen Z or oversized fashion which doesn't suit me. I am curvy and also gained weight recently. I am definitely going to follow tips from this video. Kudos!
I want to add a cardigan to my closet this year. I went looking, and thought I wanted the chunky cable knit. You were absolutely right, it looked awful. I appreciate the advice about how the arms and shoulders should fit. Thanks so much for the much needed advice.
Excellent video! I feel that cardigans or any third layer really make an outfit. But so important it’s the right shape and print cardigan. I just love you guys. Finding I am learning so much thanks!
I love this video and took notes!! I'd add that hem length, shoe color (matching or closely matching legwear or leg skin color lengthens legs), shoe style, legwear color if not in pants, and how low or high waist of pants, shorts, or skirt is (different things look good on different people) all make a big difference also in the overall cardigan outfit look. Also, body con or tucked or belt aren't the only ways to add a fitted effect. Any lines that bring the waist in (and torso in) fitted if one wants can add that effect even if the rest of that layer is pretty loose. On me I absolutely adore when dresses or shirts have fitted torsos/waists such as for example through smocking or princess seams. But to include all that would've made the video too long!
I am 38 and needed this video!! I love a good cardigan, but I look frumpy. When my Grandma died three years ago, I inherited her cardigans though. I have a couple that I wear all the time and have had friends literally say “what’s up with the old lady sweater?” Of course I told them my Grandma died and I miss her, so I wear her sweaters. I have recently added a new cardigan of a different style though. So I am branching out and looking at buying more fashionable cardigans finally.
That is so sweet. She must’ve been a very special grandma❤️ You’re blessed to have had her & to have something to remember her by. Never get rid of them but maybe keep them for cozying up at home while experimenting with some new, flattering styles when you go out.
Thanks for this post! I'm catching it way after the post-date but appreciate the tips so much I had to chime in with a comment. I was over the waterfall look and shed all of those (painful somewhat, it was!) a few months ago during a closet purge and after watching this vid, I'm doubly glad I did!
I would really LOVE a video for those of us 35+ that have extra lower belly bulge on how to look cute & show our figure without enhancing that aspect. I feel so self conscious when I tuck ANY top in because that part of my belly looks exaggerated, especially when I sit down
Same here. I suffer from Lyme disease and I get Lyme bloat in my belly area so tucking in is not an option and I refuse to wear Spanx for every day use.
@@shelbiebertolasi7141 I don’t have Lyme but I do have issues with my stomach that do cause bulge. I don’t know about you but if I wear spanx or anything that pushes in my stomach it causes such pain!
I forgot to add the comment regarding resisting wrapping a scarf around the neck -- I've been feeling "out of it" because that's such a thing with the younger set, and not only do I not like the way it looks on me no matter how hard I try to make that look work, I also live in south FL so it's rarely cool enough to justify the added fabric around the neck. SO glad to realize now why I just didn't like that look on me - def adds bulk and I didn't see it, so thanks for the perspective on that!
Thank-you for the great tips! I have many boyfriend cardigans and I've learned which ones look best on me. Now I know why! I have also found that the ones with side slits tend to hang in a more flattering way. Kelly, I like your longer hair length. Very cute!
You two are the cutest! I love that you share looking fashionable at at reasonable price range!! I easily tire of those that spend a huge tag, even though bought second hand...its usually not the real world most of us live in!
I hear you, Vicki! :) Thrift stores can be both our best friend as well as our worst enemy when trying to find something comfortable, fashionable _and_ affordable. Sometimes, it's just as expensive buying items second hand when it neither should nor needs to be!! Looking fashionable should be a possibility no matter the price range we can afford. It just takes a little awareness - something which you obviously have! :)
Your advice is right on! You must be in my house today lol. I bought a lightweight sheer floral kimono that is more duster length and I’ve been pinning it up to different lengths. You answered my question and confirmed what I was thinking!
Awesome video. Thank for making it a formula I can understand (which shoes work with which length cardigan, why the waterfall styles adds bulk, what colors and lengths work best on our age group, etc). Need to go declutter my own collection now! :)
Thank you for the new and refreshing look at cardigans-so helpful! Now I know why some of my cardigans do not look flattering on me. Thank you! While I love color block cardigans, they do not seem to be flattering on me. Is it to do with where the light versus dark color is located on the sweater? What is the best way to style this type of cardigan for different body types? Which kind shall I avoid or choose?
it is hard to say why the color blocking may not suit your body type without knowing more info. I know for myself I prefer color blocking that is done near the bottom of the cardigan versus the entire cardigan. This may also work for you. 🤔
I received a maxi creme colored cashmere cardigan for a Christmas gift. It has amazing spits on both sides which makes it flow very lovely. Ladies I've have had so much fun sporting this beauty..
I always have a hard time deciding what type of cardigan to wear with a maxi dress? I feel like it looks frumpy and bulky but in MN we ALWAYS need to have warm layers along. I'm only 5'2 but I'm chasing kids around and never wear heels. I'd love to see a video on wearing dresses for cold weather and how to not look funny in them while staying warm and comfortable.. so far I havent found a way, but you two are giving me hope! Lol!!! Thank you for a well done presentation! While I'm a more mature (older) woman now, the goal remains the same - how to look your best in the clothes you wear. Am on the hunt for cardigans and glad that I found your channel. Can you tell me where you shop for your cardigans? Most of the stores cater to the young (cute on them but not on me) set near me and the cardigans are way too bulky and oversized for my liking. Ideally I find I like the versatility of the short open front cardigan as well as the button up style that one can wear either on backwards or forward. Will now check out some of your other videos - great job!
a cardigan is such a simple touch in our outfits but it's so tricky to style! thanks for these tips. this is why I hate cardigan bcos it looks frumpy if you don't know style it wisely
Great advise! I am 5’2” & 56 yrs old and find that duster a cardigan will make me look taller, but only worn with a dress or pants with a little heel. I don’t wear anything oversized either. I am petite…size 4-6 so It just looks sloppy. I recently stopped wearing anything sleeveless unless I have something over it too.
Great tips! They help so much - I'm someone who usually shops alone, and with no-one to point out the bad things! Definitely worry about cardigans looking frumpy, especially over a certain age, but now I know what to avoid or to pick. Thanks!
Love Kelli’s new hair color. I’m an ash blonde myself & it’s kind of nerve-wracking to try a darker shade (first-world problem, I know). That looks terrific!
Thank you so much! I was finding it a little too stripey so I actually had it toned down a little since but I’m happy to hear it’s looking good on camera☺️
Great video, after this I realized I have kind of all types of cardigans( including dos and donts🤨) you mentioned in this video, i was never used to try cardigans before buying, just used to see how cute or smart they are looking, but now i think i will start trying before buying😀
enjoying your videos at( nearly 60) I found a thinner wool is great for me being a size 16 to give me a non bulky look which easy happens with a thicker fabric on me
Could you possibly do a video about what to wear over sleeveless dresses. I have several very well made dresses that I still like , but don’t feel comfortable wearing anymore, because of my arms now. I have worn a Jean jacket over a couple, which look great. But, how can I dress some up to look good for a more dressy look. I have several styles. Thank You
Great video ladies!!! Love watching them and learning your tips!!! Y'all are so sweet puts me in a great mood rest of day.....love my cardigans. Kelly, I love your hair length looks so good.....thank you ladies... you two rock!!!
I got a couple of Barefoot Dreams cardigans that are warm and cozy, but I learned the expensive lesson that they are bulky and really add width. I regret getting them because they are not flattering, but they are warm and I really appreciate that around the house (where I seem to be all the time lately). These are great tips to raise awareness about details of fit and construction that make a difference.
We actually own BF too but it really depends on which style. I owned a circular bottom one & it was not flattering. Now I have the cozy chic lite version & it’s much better. But I do think they’re great for loungewear. I throw mine over joggers & a tee to run my kids to school.
Hi beautiful ladies!!! Thank you so much for these great tips, I love cardigans,I have a few of them different lengths and colors so now I know how to pair them up with the right shoes,I have a few pairs of ankle booties so, I’m excited to try them out with your suggestions!!! God bless.🤗🤗💕💕
I usually wear my scarves because I am cold so they are wrapped around my neck. Additionally I have wide hips so I feel that a lot of scarve on my neck ads a balance to my hips. It depends on a build of the person. Great tips. Thank you ladies.
Another great idea on cardigans because sometimes I feel unsure what type, length and style I need to get for my height 5’2 so I just walk away..now I have some knowledge to actually consider buying one!..thanks again ladies!..great contents so far on videos I’ve watched already ❤️
I love your video. I just wish that the over 40’s wouldn’t be so concerned with looking younger! Looking fabulous is always in style and you can do that at any age
@@MommiesMakeupAndMoscato it’s wonderful to look your best. I think that a lot of women are overly concerned with looking younger rather than looking their best. When you look good and are comfortable with your age then you have a winning combination. You ladies look fantastic! I mean no harm! I love your video
@@shellywatson8653 -Possibly. But looking youthful (dressing current and not frumpy) is definitely different than trying to dress too young... at least in my opinion. Does that make sense with what you were addressing?
@@gigics1612 I agree that dressing in clothes from my teens& 20’s would look silly on me now. I have no desire for that. My comment was about platforms like these lovely ladies have that concern themselves with looking younger as opposed to looking your best at the age that you are. We make younger seem superior when we do that and we place to much concern on looking younger. Looking better fits across all generations and doesn’t make inferior the process of aging
I love jeans & tees too! We dress for ourselves because it makes us feel good to put in a little effort & care for ourselves. Style is just a form of self expression & if you’re feeling hoodies then by all means enjoy them’ ☺️
I’ve always avoided the slimline thin cardigans as thought they’d make bum look bigger but I have bought (in the sales last year) three long cardigans but thicker material. You’ve given me ideas on how to wear them. Thanks
A friend of mine makes all the mistakes of how not to wear but I’m afraid to share this video with her that I might offend her, because she thinks she looks good. Great tips!!!
Great tips ladies! Congrats on over 30K! Question: I love long dresses with boots now in the colder months --- ok to wear them with a duster even if the duster is shorter than the dress? Also --- I love blazers! Do you have a specific video on blazers? Thanks!!
We do have a blazer video from last fall. Here’s the link for you to check out: th-cam.com/video/jvvfRuPKQwQ/w-d-xo.html As for the cardigan dress combo I would usually recommend that the cardigan is longer than the dress.
For years I've owned a bold flower cropped cardigan that we all call my 'old lady sweater'!! lol (I don't know why, but I absolutly love it) On point about the shoulder seams, good video
Thanks for the nice tips on wearing cardigans ! there are so many styles and lengths to choose from now, so finding the one that is flattering is easier than it used to be. You both look lovely in your outfits ! :-)
Great video! I especially loved the ending when you demonstrated the teen cardigans and how they just don't work. So true!..lol. I was wondering what your view point is on body suits. I like the idea of sleek tucked in look but I don't know if that would work unless you have a super flat stomach. Thoughts?
We just recently found a few bodysuits & we are loving them layered under cardigans, jackets, blazers... I actually have one coming up in a haul. I think they’re a great alternative to a cami or tank top.
Please do a video on ideas for what to wear during fall and winter in warm climates. I think both of you live in Florida like me and it is still so hot that jeans and cardigans are out of the question still! And if I can’t wear a cardigan, I can’t hide the tummy, so there’s that. I’m originally from up north so I feel a pull to wear jeans, darker colors, etc., but it’s pushing 90 outside. Help!
We can definitely relate as we are south Floridians too. However, we do wear jeans & lightweight cardigans in fall & winter because we spend most of our time in AC.
Just found you both, such a breath of fresh air!!! I enjoy watching you. Great video- I would add, color blocking is fun and trendy, but the multi color needs to start below your bottom and not through out your body. It breaks it up and shortens us. I think the Mexican print that started lower looked great. Just my opinion. subscribed!!!
Thank you both. Great video as always! Love both of your intro outfit. I just placed an order for Christina’s black off the shoulder top. Very pretty on you. 😀
Ok so we love high waisted jeans but we have several different high-waisted styles we like-skinny, straight leg, boot cut... so I’m linking the video of our top 5 which has all the details below so you can see exactly which ones you want to check out. Hope this helps☺️ th-cam.com/video/cCjmy4WoY0A/w-d-xo.html
Hi! You made a lot of good points but there is one thing that I disagree with and that relates to the scarf. I really like the look of a twisted scarf. I travel to Europe in the winter and everyone uses scarfs folded around the neck and it looks great.
I agree that scarves twisted at the neck can be beautiful for sure. Usually when you see them this way they are with coats & being used for warmth. We were specifically referring to styling them with a big cardigan & how closing up the neck area with the cardigan can make it look frumpy. We’re FL girls so we were thinking more about the style aspect then practicality😂 but we both wear scarves wrapped around the neck with sweaters & coats when we’re in cold climates.
Great tips especially the one about the underarms. Now I have some homework to do. I need to check all my cardigans. I am a huge fan of cardigans. I live in Canada so of course I need cardigans. Also, with my love of all things Boho I adore layering. I am a Theoretical Romantic so I assumed that I can have many choices. I also love the long cardigan dusters. Also, as a Type 2/1 I thought that the rounded edges and waterfall collars are supposed to be flattering. What about the Fair Isle cardigans? Would that be too broadening in the shoulder area? Great tips and great video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Not sure about the Type 2/1 thing. We just find in general that waterfall cardigans reallly add bulk in that area so unless you are very small & looking to enlarge your body we would advise against them.
Some of these tips are great. Especially the drop shoulder. I have found that it is difficult to find anything that is not a drop shoulder for the past 5 or so years. Especially when I am looking for a duster. I do feel like a lot of these tips basically lead to the same outfit. The cardigan is basically the same silhouette with the same skinny jean and top underneath. I would love to see some creativity. What about styling a trendy cardigan for someone over 40?
Glad you enjoyed the tips. We do style our cardigans with bootcut, skinny, straight leg jeans, shorts & dresses in a lot of our videos. We hope you’ll check them out.

Thanks for the suggestion👍🏻
Great video ladies!!! Love watching them and learning your tips!!! Y'all are so sweet puts me in a great mood rest of day.....love my cardigans. Kelly, I love your hair length looks so good.....thank you ladies... you two rock!!!
Thank you so much for your sweet comments🥰
Very timely! I'll remove the chunky cardigan from my Amazon cart and keep looking. Great tips - thank you!
You’re so welcome☺️
Thanks so much! We’re so glad you enjoyed it☺️God bless you too!
I love your videos! Short and to the point! After watching this I got rid of all my oversized cardigans! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Glad we could help!
I usually wear my scarves because I am cold so they are wrapped around my neck. Additionally I have wide hips so I feel that a lot of scarve on my neck ads a balance to my hips. It depends on a build of the person. Great tips. Thank you ladies.
Thanks for sharing!!
Another great idea on cardigans because sometimes I feel unsure what type, length and style I need to get for my height 5’2 so I just walk away..now I have some knowledge to actually consider buying one!..thanks again ladies!..great contents so far on videos I’ve watched already ❤️
You are so welcome! 😘
I love your video. I just wish that the over 40’s wouldn’t be so concerned with looking younger! Looking fabulous is always in style and you can do that at any age
Absolutely! But I think most women like the idea of shaving of a few years & there’s nothing wrong with that either☺️
I’ll stick with jeans, tees and hoodies lol. I’m 46 and I’m in that phase of not caring what people think of me 😂😂😂 I highly recommend it!!!
I love jeans & tees too! We dress for ourselves because it makes us feel good to put in a little effort & care for ourselves. Style is just a form of self expression & if you’re feeling hoodies then by all means enjoy them’ ☺️
I'm also 46 and I LOVE my hoodies too😘
I’ve always avoided the slimline thin cardigans as thought they’d make bum look bigger but I have bought (in the sales last year) three long cardigans but thicker material. You’ve given me ideas on how to wear them. Thanks
our pleasure!
A friend of mine makes all the mistakes of how not to wear but I’m afraid to share this video with her that I might offend her, because she thinks she looks good. Great tips!!!
Thank you. These are just our opinions so if she feels amazing that is the most important thing! 😊
If she thinks she looks great that's all that matters!
Excellent analysis, you gals are such great stylists, and always for real women, real lifestyles and real budgets💕
Thank you so much!
I got a nice pearl type belt for my grey duster cardigan.
Here’s the link for you to check out:
th-cam.com/video/jvvfRuPKQwQ/w-d-xo.html
As for the cardigan dress combo I would usually recommend that the cardigan is longer than the dress.
@@MommiesMakeupAndMoscato thank you!!!
More great tips. And y’all passed 30000! 🎉
Thank you☺️We’re so excited🎉
For years I've owned a bold flower cropped cardigan that we all call my 'old lady sweater'!! lol (I don't know why, but I absolutly love it)
On point about the shoulder seams, good video
So glad you enjoyed it☺️
Thank you ladies. These tips are really helpful 🌸
You are so welcome!
Thanks for the nice tips on wearing cardigans ! there are so many styles and lengths to choose from now, so finding the one that is flattering is easier than it used to be. You both look lovely in your outfits ! :-)
So glad you enjoyed it☺️Thanks!
I needed this video to give me stylish ideas for fall! I am purging my closet of all waterfall cardigans!
So glad we could help☺️
Me too
Although I’m 33 and I have found many of your videos helpful, please keep up the good work. 😀
Thank you! Will do!
So helpful! I love cardigans and now have a better understanding of how to work them to my advantage
So glad you found it helpful☺️
Great video and so helpful! Your tips will definitely help me find the right cardigan from now on. Thank you for sharing!
You’re so welcome!
All the tips were very helpful. You saved me from being frumpy , to hopefully fabulous 👯♀️
So glad you enjoyed it! I'm sure you're looking fab!
Absolutely love your videos!! Keep up the great work ladies ❤️
Thanks so much☺️
Just found you both, such a breath of fresh air!!! I enjoy watching you. Great video- I would add, color blocking is fun and trendy, but the multi color needs to start below your bottom and not through out your body. It breaks it up and shortens us. I think the Mexican print that started lower looked great. Just my opinion. subscribed!!!
Welcome & thanks so much!
I love color blocking. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you both. Great video as always! Love both of your intro outfit. I just placed an order for Christina’s black off the shoulder top. Very pretty on you. 😀
Thank you ☺️
Perfect timing i bought a chunky sweater and it wasn't quite right. I'll be returning it after this video. Not a fan of the bat wing look.
So glad we could help!
I LOVE the batwing look!!!!!
@@sewingmistakesunlimited Me too!
Great video. Can you point me to your favorite high waisted jeans? I know you’ve mentioned it before.
Ok so we love high waisted jeans but we have several different high-waisted styles we like-skinny, straight leg, boot cut... so I’m linking the video of our top 5 which has all the details below so you can see exactly which ones you want to check out. Hope this helps☺️

I de-frumped my tops. Now I have to de-frump the cardigans! Thanks for your videos!
You are so welcome!
Wow. This is an oldie but goodie. Hi. Its pat from Rhode Island 🎉🎉🎉
A great video. Thank you ladies. So beautiful
Thank you 😊
I have learned to size down with all sweaters and they look so much better. If nothing else, they stretch out, especially the looser-stitch ones.
Yes, that really can help so much.
Love your video!!❤️ as working from home.. like to see more of loungewear comparison of Lou&grey, Walmart, target, aerie and etc .. 😘
Great suggestion
Gosh yes!! I'm a huge fan!!💗❤💗❤
This was fantastic! That title was clickbait for me, and I loved and learned from EVERY tip. (And confess I deserve a cardigan citation. Out goes the waterfall!) Thanks again, guys! Great job! Fun to watch. Loved the outfits you showed on the side while you were presenting. I wanted to "Pin" a lot of them. haha
You're so welcome!Glad you enjoyed it:)
This was great. Thank you. It seams like a lot to take in I better save this and watch a few times.
So glad you enjoyed it☺️

Can you do a video on pullover sweaters.
Thanks for the great suggestion:)
