Using the National Electrical Code to properly size the Wire, Thermal Overloads, and Over Current Protection Devices for a 1/3 H.P., Three-Phase motor with a Magnetic Motor Starter/Disconnect.
The magnetic motor starter and disconnect holds the fuses, thermal overloads and connects the proper sized wires from the line side of the disconnect to the load side of the contactor terminals for the motor connection. We use the National Electrical Code (NEC) Article 430, Motors, Art. 430.22 and 310.15 (B)(16) to properly size the wire, Art. 430.32 (A) (1) and (C) to properly size the Thermal Overloads, using the nameplate Full Load Current (FLC), and T. 430.52 and Exception 1 along with 240.6 to properly size the OCPDs, dual element time delay fuses.
