In regards to how coaching has changed; in 2008 I was 15 playing football when I made a tackle on the first play and the running backs facemask managed to penetrate the gap between my facemask and helmet hitting me just above my eye. I got up like it was just another tackle when I noticed the gap in my helmet was way bigger and my defensive teammates immediately noticed and were astonished while the refs must not have been aware because I didn't miss a snap the rest of the drive. When I got back to the sideline the head coach gave me someone else's helmet to use even though it was too big for me. By the time it got to halftime I pulled myself from the game because I knew something wasn't right despite both coaches and doctors telling me I was good to go. I still showed up to practice 2 days later, coach had a new helmet ready for me and I didn't miss any time. This despite me having already suffering a concussion in a scrimmage before the season started. I ran into him a few years later and he told me he would be fired for how he handled that after the severity of concussions became more widely known.
I'm sorry that happened to you. It's good to read a direct example of how they're doing better for those of us that didn't play organized football. I'm a girl so all I could do was blow folks away in the powder puff game homecoming week. I would have been a great slot receiver and would absolutely have CTE.
