  • Mix it up and use as streamer as your anchor fly while Euro nymphing. Slither it through the rocks and see what happens.

    I would never have considered this setup. Thanks for the great tip on tight lining a streamer/nymph combo.

      Oh hey thanks, if using this technique I would consider this fly. It's purpose built specifically for this strategy. redsflyfishing.com/products/meat-sweats-streamer-jighead-sculpin-by-rio?variant=38260735901895

    I recently had good success with a similar setup on the Henry's Fork. I was using a 5wt rod with floating line. 2x leader to a size 8 olive wooly bugger then had about 18" of 3x tippet from the eye to a cdc tungsten jig nymph. I alternated between dead drift, swinging it, and stripping it (all techniques I got from your videos so thank you). Had equal takes between the wooly bugger and the nymph. Multiple nice 16" fish and a fat 20" rainbow on this setup!

    Another great video! I would love to see an OPST line on that rod. Im thinking about trying trout spey but I don’t want to get a new rod. Will my euro rod single hand skagit cast effectively with a OPST LINE?

    Wow I'm surprised that is a 2 weight! I was a little worried about casting it on my 5 weight but I will admit I don't know much about fly fishing since I am just starting. However I did catch my first two trout on the same frenchie you are throwing. Had a chubby up top and the frenchie under it. First was around a 6-8 inch rainbow and the second was around a 14 inch rainbow. It was a good one and surprised me.

    Another very cool video. I guess I get to locked into fishing my streamers one way. I will have to try it. Videos like these are pulling this old guy in the euro leader and rigging set ups. Kicking and screaming though the whole way.

      Thanks Stephen, I need to do an updated video here as I found a streamer that is better for this. It's called the "Meat Sweats" and the hook and body system are designed for this "Dead Sticking" style of fishing. You'll want the #8, this thing kicks ass!

      Thank you, we just ordered a bunch of really great new little jig streamers that should be here soon. I am finding that the big traditional hook on most streamers is too much for setting the hook with my ESN rods. I'm having some tied that have small light wire hook ups, they just hook fish so much better!

  • @newrivernymphs3213

    Oh man if you like this you gotta try rigging it more like a dry dropper with 18 inches of mono to a nymph off the hook bend of the streamer I regularly outfish people of my home water the streamer most often a heavy conehead acts as a weight if there feeling frisky and want a streamer they have it if they want something small the trailer nymph get them too it’s perfect for downstream fishing as you can throw it a little bit ahead of the slot the fish are in let the nymph drift through and watch the streamer similar to a strike indicator the strip the stream back up the slot this is my most used rig

    I fish micro buggers like this all the time. Often early in the cool morning before fish get more active, gently bump the fly or get jiggy with it as you say, on the euro rod.

    Looking at purchasing the Echo Shadow II but can’t decide on the 2wt or 3wt. I fish mostly smaller creeks but want to be able to potentially put a streamer on this rod. Would the 2wt be able to handle anything larger than a wooly bigger? Not trying to cast the streamer just flip it into pools.

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would get the #2, you'll be able to find a streamer that casts great on it. The Sculpzilla may hold a bit more water than you like, but there are other patterns that will work for this with a #2.

      @@blakegereb2383 It's a ton of fun. For me it hasn't been about simply catching more fish, but about the way I get to catch them. Nothing sloppy about this strategy. No slack line, very few snags, very few tangles.

    Where in the water column do you want the streamer? Off the bottom?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically skipping along the bottom, it most often gets taken as it lifts toward the end of your drift and breaks contact from the bottom. Like a critter appearing out from between the rocks!

    How do you keep the dropper tag from twisting around the straight tippet? I've basically abandoned dropper tags because of this.

    • @curtislloyd5895
      @curtislloyd5895 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of it is the weight of the flies, if the point fly is heavier than the tag fly you won't twist up. I used to twist a lot because I was using equal weight flies and I was false casting. If you false cast you are will twist up a lot as well. The length of the tag, weight of the flies and casting arch will all effect the twisting. Good luck. As always practice good stream etiquette. Hope to see you out there.

  • @paulhaderlein5854
    @paulhaderlein5854 ปีที่แล้ว

    You mentioned this set up doesn't work as well with an indicator. Why is that? Thanks.

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the dead drift of the indicator tends to let the streamer "ball up" and the tail sort of floats and wraps around the hook like a piece of organic debris might and it doesn't swing out as good. On a Tight Line Rig (Euro), you can lead on tension and keep the tail tight, twitch it, strip it, or swing it without the indicator being a distraction or disturbing the action.

    Joe - what is your leader set-up?

    • @redsflyshop

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea, it looks crazy but it separates well in the water and stays organized. The longer the tag, the more it can wrap. I like it about 6-10" off the main line for the upper fly.

    Great video but not one single drift, just the pay off at the end. Let's see some drifts and what to look for. How to know you are on the bottom, how to know when you should lengthen your tippet or shorten it. Use your platform to talk about stream etiquette. There are more and more fisherman out there, and guides teaching their clients bad habits. Tight lines!!
