Can you put more info on the Pokémon? The AI isn’t the same for every single match. On my first turn, both Dragapult and Azumarill attack the same pokémon, regardless of move chosen or held item. Idk how you did that first turn of 2-0, but it makes absolutely no sense to me. Thank you for these videos, but we need some more context sometimes, especially on these tougher battles.
The simple answer is that you didn't have choice band on Azumarill, or you didn't switch it's ability to huge power. The more complicated answer is out of my range of knowledge but I'll do my best: Lance knows that you see a kill on Spiritomb with choice band play rough (it's a range but he doesn't care) and decides based on that to attack Delphox. In this case, you actually don't want to hit the range on Spiritomb because if you do, Giovanni sends out Silvally-Fairy and that kills Lance's Dragapult, which you need him to have later in the fight for this strategy. Hope this helps.
