Sometimes an unhealthy relationship can leave a person obsessed and resentful at the same time. Like an addict, you can't stop chasing that "high." You wake up from using and you're miserable, empty, and the only answer is to go after it again. When he dreams about the entity, he's afraid that he might never dream about "Her" again. Addiction is no joke, whether it be a substance or a person.
There's so much limerence in Sleep Tokens music. Limerence is torture,pure addiction,and so painful.

Couple weeks 😂? I discovered them last year when the Summoning came out and I rarely listen to anything else. I have a ST playlist with every song they've ever done and let it play on shuffle 😂. Everything Vessel sings is Gold. I love his voice so much. Can't wait to see them in May

The biggest and most obvious (and most poetic) metaphor I’ve found for the toxic relationship and case of severe limerence is in the lines ‘my my those eyes like fire I’m a winged insect you’re a funeral pyre’ from Take Me Back To Eden. Literally a moth to a flame, he knows that she’s baddddd news and may lead to his demise, literally a funeral may follow, but he cannot keep away, it’s like it’s hard wired into him to be attracted to her, purely instinctive based on animalistic needs of a primal nature. He knows nothing else, it’s his entire purpose and he can’t break away from it.
I think at the end of the song they made it to where you don't want the song to end. Just like he doesn't want his dreams to end. It's like a "wait! come back!" type of thing. So you have to replay it back just like he does.

The backstory of Sleep Token is that Vessel was visited in a dream by Sleep, an ancient deity, who demanded offerings, most of the songs seem to be Vessels POV in that relationship, which is heavily inferred to be very toxic.
That's their backstory but it's very commonly believed that this story Vessel tells is about a past relationship(s).
my friend & i always says he describes an anxious attachment style personality, it makes sense to those who have that style. maybe it’s him w that personality, maybe someone else, but it describes it well & regardless of their true backstory for creating the band nothing will compare to the emotion & lyrical poetry Vessel puts in his vocals.

You hit nail on the head of one reason I like Sleep token so much. In how someone in the 80s would think music would be in the future. I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and they are how pictured music.

For me this song is not only special because it’s so good but also because I found it during a very toxic and bad situationship that lasted for about a year. It’s like Vessel is singing, I can’t shake it and it torments me. I’m better off without her I know and I wish she never met me to begin with but I also kiss her a lot

This song is about longing to be with somebody. The only way you see them is in your dreams
A lot of this album is about a very toxic relationship that ended, so that's pretty spot on.
Another cool thing is that they are written to follow the "lore" of the band, so they can be taken literally. From that perspective, this song is about a goddess (named Sleep, the band's name means a token of worship to the goddess sleep) that came to the singer of the band while he slept, causing him to start sleep token. In the story it is because he was infatuated by this apparition coming to him in his dreams. It really makes the distress at the climax of the song effective no matter how you look at it.
Pretty sure this was a direct love letter to Sleep herself.
I highly suggest Tolomeres from their second full length album. Easily in my top 3 songs of theirs

i dont know if you actually check comments or not, but you REALLY should for Sleep Token as much of what is actually behind the influences of the songs have been explained. namely the fact that the albums are a trilogy of a 'fictional' story. granted, there is speculation that the songs are based on real-life relationship experiences that helped fuel the story. to summize: Sleep Tokens three albums (at the time of this comment) are a trilogy of the story of how Vessel was met by a Goddess in his dreams. her true name is beyond comprehension. Thus, Vessel coined her name as Sleep as he only ever meets her in his sleep. he is obsessed with her to the point of worshipping her. but she is demanding, wanting, and taking more and more from him. a moth to a flame kind of deal. he wants to be closer to Sleep but is being burned away by doing so.

You definitely need to listen to The Love You Want by them. You should also watch the music video for it. It tells a lot about what is happening with the deity. Worship ❤

When I want to convince myself that I'm happy-go-lucky, I listen to Angelina Jordan. Any other time, I listen to Sleep Token. Either way, I enter a higher consciousness and float away in bliss.

in a way, not as far off as one might think. it's been mentioned in the comments, but I'll go ahead and summize it just in case: Sleep Tokens albums are a 'fictional' story of how Vessel (the lead singer) met a Goddess in their dreams that goes by Sleep. he is obsessed with her. However, she demands worship and sacrifices. granted, there are many speculations that the songs are based on real-life experiences that Vessel has used to create/fuel the fictional story taking place with the trilogy of the albums.

I know the lore is that he is in love with Sleep but it feels like sleep is a euphemism for death. There are several references to self harm and close calls in his lyrics that build on that dance with desth image I have. If you listen to Atlantic, it sounds like he is talking about a close call that put him in the hospital. "bandage up these trenches" and "They talk me through the damage, consequence
And how it's a pain they know they don't understand". I know, that's probably deeper than I need to go with his music but all we have is theories.
