I think the last time something like this happened to me, I had the presence of mind to say, "oh my god this is so embarrassing!" and then laughed hysterically. Somehow calling thing awkward or embarrassing takes some of the sting out.

So my husband had a similar thing happen at work. So he’s the one in charge of a department so he likes to take the time to know peoples names and say hi to everyone in other departments. So apparently one day he sees a guy he hadn’t seen since my husband moved departments. And he said oh hi (insert man’s name) how are you doing and the guy responds in that “oh fine" cause you’re not gonna tell your whole life but then my husband said oh how is your wife and kid? is she still working in that other department? And the guy looked at my husband dead in the eyes and said oh she left me and took my kid i had to move back in with my parents. And my husband said he wanted to crawo into a hole and die and just forget the whole interaction but he just stood there and said oh I’m sorry to hear that. Like what else couod he say? 😂 my husband later told me and then I see the man at his work and I’m like he looks so sad like my heart breaks for him and knowing what his life is seeing his sadness killed me knowing my husband just seen the guy again after months and the proceeds to bring up the absolute worst part of his life. Sad but also fckin hilarious 😂
Ye I was at a funeral and the cateres where putting food out and me in drink started saying don't eat them sandwiches they scratch there fanny's then butter your bread buns and the lad said oh it's my auntie 😢 x
