    Such an important lesson! Immediately, by adding the darker shadows you gave the portrait more dimension. When you added the highlights, it brought the portrait home! Compliments to the original artist who was willing to share!

    Very important lesson! Great explanation. In Photoshop, instead of using dodge and burn (because like you said, it shifts colors), I select the color, then use a brush in multiply mode at a low opacity (5-6%), and build my shadows. For dodging, do the same method, but with the brush in screen mode. You’ll get less color shifts that way, and be able to build up the highlights and shadows. You can even do this on a separate layer above your image so you work non-destructively.

    So many artists , I would not call them artists , because if you are not able to master the light or painting and above all drawing , you are not an artist but student . Colorists I call them , first learn how to draw otherwise you are limited . Loved your video ❤️
