I read some criticism recently, like saying why not listen to in rainbows by radiohead instead. So listened, and but it wasn't anywhere near as good as this album, or the last three albums, beauty is in the eye etc...

Yeah... Radiohead's fans are among the most obnoxious and arrogant people on the face of earth.
It is fair to say that alt-j are extremely inspired by Radiohead (in fact you can even see them paying tribute to them on the "hard drive gold" video).
In rainbows it's an amazing album, sorry to hear you didn't like it much.
