The jewel of The Mariners’ Museum’s collection are The Miniature Ships of August F. and Winnifred Crabtree. From a primitive raft to a Venetian galleass decorated with 359 carved figures, the evolution of boatbuilding is depicted in an unparalleled display of craftsmanship by artist/carver August F. Crabtree. With help from his wife, Winnifred, Crabtree created this extraordinary miniature fleet. This popular exhibit includes redesigned display cases allowing for better viewing of the models, new state-of-the-art fiber optic lighting, illustrations depicting the individual ships, and a special section highlighting Crabtree’s life and work using photographs and a display of the unique tools and techniques that Crabtree used to make his unparalleled models.

1:00 Well, I was there in, maybe, 1962 or -63, as a high school kid, neigh on to 60 years ago, now, and I still carry a vivid memory of those models. I aim to go back, as soon as the covid lets up.

... but ... survey question here ... Which is more annoying: the narrator's voice or the music?

Griffin Anderson To be honest the music,,I really don't believe models of this quality need a soundtrack..I hope you enjoy your return visit to the museum when you can get there.

@@fhills76 Agree. And hope I get back soon! (U.S. does not currently allow travel by Schengen residents -- i.e EU and then some.)
