    Enjoy watching!!!
    Fire And Rain - James Taylor
    Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
    Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
    I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
    I just cant remember who to send it to
    Ive seen fire and I`ve seen rain
    Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
    Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
    But I always thought that Id see you again
    Wont you look down upon me, Jesus?
    Youve got to help me make a stand
    Youve just got to see me through another day
    My bodys aching and my time is at hand
    And I wont make it any other way
    Oh, I`ve seen fire and Ive seen rain
    Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
    Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
    But I always thought that Id see you again
    Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
    Lord knows when the cold wind blows itll turn your head around
    Well, theres hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things
    To come
    Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground
    Oh, I`ve seen fire and I`ve seen rain
    Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
    Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
    But I always thought that Id see you, baby, one more time again, now
    Thought Id see you one more time again
    Theres just a few things coming my way this time around, now
    Thought Id see you, thought Id see you fire and rain, now

    I survived and quit heroin 7 years ago. Going from shooting up 2 to 3 grams or so a day, 200 dollar more a day habit, then straight to nothing, cold turkey, was the hardest, most painful thing I ever did. However, coming home to my best friend the day before I threw what I had away and quit, was far more painful. If it wasn't for music such as this, I don't think I would have made it through the pain, the to sick too sleep but to tired too stay awake state, the visions, and the evil, demonic, cravings, that never ceased their war on my mind and body. Something about James Taylor, Neil Young, and the Beatles helped put light into the darkness trying to reclaim it's territory, my life and soul. Even after the initial withdrawal and horrific peak on day 5, when I started to calm down and feel better, I still had months, even years, of battle, with myself and the monster still clinging to my back, yet I made it through. Again I feel, it was because I had music to fall back on. Point to all of this is, it's amazing what music can do to strengthen your emotional resolve, with the positive, or negative, vibes it can introduce into your life, even enough to save you.

      I’ve been thinking a lot this past year or two about how soothing and potentially therapeutic music can be. I don’t know how you would prescribe songs anyway, since everyone has their own tastes in music and whatnot. However, I have been hooked on “Shake it Out” by Florence + The Machine (and pretty much anything from any of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies) and Andy “Grammar’s Damn it Feels Good to be Me” lately. “Brave” by Sara Bareilles is a good one too.

    I call this song a "Dad Song". My dad has a playlist he listens to over and over - still plays the same ones to this day - and this song was on it (a couple others are Zombie by The Cranberries, anything by Martin Zellar (like I Wanna Drive the Zamboni). Reminds me of sunny endless family road trips in the car, where I'd spend hours listening to my dads music and staring out the window at the bobbing telephone wires and bright blue sky ☺️❤️

    Hard to believe that line was what made Carole King write You've Got a Friend, which turned out to be another one of James Taylor's biggest hits.

    I've been listening to this song since it came out in the early 70s and for many decades it makes me think of the girl I first fell in love with. We knew each other since kindergarten and I fell for her in high school. She broke it off with me not long before graduation and we planned to go our separate ways to different colleges, and we did, although we reconnected that summer between and kept in touch at a distance for a while. She broke it off again and not long after, while dreaming of ways to get together with her again, she died of a sudden illness in college. Recalling that phone call still makes my head spin a bit. Life went on but after almost 40 years I miss her still and of course this song is about her.
    "Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground" indeed. Her name was Patti!

      +mrfester42 Wow. Many of us have similar memories and stories of the ones we knew, loved, and lost. Paths crossing and uncrossing. But most of ours didn't end the way yours did. Clearly you remember her fondly. I hope you've lived a happy life since then.

      @mrfester42 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +David Hyrman The song evokes a bittersweet feeling. To enjoy those good memories means also feeling some of that pain as well. To avoid the pain would mean avoiding the good and in a sense erasing her from my memory and I wont do that.

    • @gloriamaryhaywood2217
      @gloriamaryhaywood2217 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +mrfester42 You worded that so beautifully!..so perfectly!...that's exactly the way I feel about my wonderful husband who died in 1994..and my sister who lost her battle with cancer a few years ago!...I refuse to stop remembering them...talking about all the fun and good times we shared together...yes, along with those precious memoies comes pain...sometimes even over-whelming...but I'll endure it till I draw my last breath..coz thats my connection to them...they're in my very 'fiber' for Eternity!

    • @mrfester42
      @mrfester42 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wont go into detail about it here but I've had experiences that convince me beyond any doubt that we continue after we leave here and they have no connection whatsoever with religion. In fact, I have no use whatsoever for religion of any kind but I do have a spiritual life. It is those experiences and NOT religious faith which help me to bare that loss and know that, at the very least, I will see the one I miss again when my time comes and you'll see your husband and sister as well. They're on the other side of that locked door that we all must go through someday.

      ECH0550 I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. I am hoping you know you'll see her again one day, and she's watching out for you. I never feel like any member of my family is truly gone; rather I feel as though they are never far away. It's my faith that keeps me moving forward. My sister, THAT truly crushed me for the longest time, she was only 24, and was killed because her four year old son was on the upper floor and she tried to save him. She wouldn't have been able to go on had she lived anyhow. She LIVED for her children. So, despite the two losses, at once in the absolute long run, was far better than if she'd spent the rest of her life/25 years ago/suffering. He and her died together, they were found together. It's a long story, but it was a double, premeditated murder, the police did not do their jobs.....

    • @shearslisa
      @shearslisa 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Safdar Shah Thank you for your comment, and for your offer of condolence, as Echo said, music and poetry are open to interpretation. Some are reminded of times long past, some are given hope for the future. Some music just has a great tune that makes you want to dance, but the greatest music of all is really not the songs that are written about one specific thing, rather the ones that make many people, think many different things, In my opinion..... Leader of The Band is another song that is also written about someones' parent, or rather father, but it may make you think about someone who enjoyed that song . You understand where we were coming from on that? It's all how you interpret the song. Either way, it stirs emotion, which in this day and age, is not something that comes along every day. Most new musicians are one hit wonders, or lose their carreers once they've lost their looks, it's all about appearance/glitz/looks/ass/sex, and music videos. Back when I was growing up, we listened to the radio, if we liked what we were listening to, we bought the album, and didn't like certain musicians just based on their looks, half the time we were clueless as to what they looked like, and didn't care.....we didn't worship them as though they were better than us either. Anyways, have a nice day.

But, gosh, what a surprise party that was! We were so young!! We partied, saw great jazz bands on a Monday night, had beignets for breakfast at Café Dumonde, god that was so great. I could never find you bc I misspelled your last name. One missing letter kept me away from reaching you again. Your gentle nature, your peaceful ways despite all you had been through, remain deep in my heart and mind forever. I can still see you playing guitar and the bongos! Haha. You loved playing music. Always thought I'd see you again. God bless you. Love you.

    This song, dutifully, pays honorable homage to those we've lost yet, to me, it also pays tribute to those I DID find again! When I saw them, yep, I started singing this to them! Wow! The smile on their faces!

      Real friends are there in times of need and dont inflict additional suffering on you. My Dad used to say" These people are not your friends, they will be no where to be found when times are tough, someday you will meet someone that will really put " an end to you" ( I dont think he meant it literally but more like I would meet someone who would ruin things in my life emotionally or otherwise. I now know what he meant. Im sure he is sad from " up there" seeing it happen.

    My mom used this at her funeral. I love you mom, and I really miss you. I know it's stupid to post this on a TH-cam video but I really don't know how to tell you that things are rough without you. Dad prays and wishes you'd help him a little more. I don't think that's possible but if you could make any attempt please. I don't think we can do this without you. I'm thinking about you a lot. It sucks that time was so short. Anyways, I love you and miss you a lot.

      Wherever your mother is now, I think that she would without a doubt want you to persist against these adversities knowing that she's behind you 100%. I'm so sorry to hear about her passing. I just want you to know, even though I don't know you, that holding on to hope is really important. You can absolutely get through this and lead a good life. All my love to you and your father, hang in there and be strong, your life is worth it, and your mother would want you to live it to your best.

    This song hits home to me so effing hard. I received a message early one April morning back in 2022that my very best friend from high school had passed from brain cancer. She had an intense yet very rough life, losing her mother, father favorite uncle in a plane crash just a short 35 days after she was married. Later she had to live yet another tragedy of her eldest daughter losing friends in the Prescott seven fire. Her name wasn’t Suzanne but her life was mainly everything that occurred in this song. To this day, it’s still hurts the hell out of me and lets me know that there is a creator out there. If you’ve ever had a falling out with a friend, or just need to talkt to them after many years, don’t hesitate to pick up the phone right now and make amends you may not get a second chance. I learned this the hard way.

    This song by James Taylor in 1970 was so touching at 15yrs old, but at 2017 it has been so influential in my solitude and desperation until now. There's times that you can't find someone so important in your life that would be there

    My best friend had open heart surgery ... Was recovering good. Then had 3 strokes and became unresponsive. He died a day later. He was always full of life. Always joking and making the most of life. Breaks my heart that I'll never get to have those moments with him again. Life is so brief. Cherish the ones you love. ✌️❤️

    I remember this song so well in Sept of 1970. It was getting lots of AM radio airplay here in Toronto. I had just gone into Grade 7 at middle school. I went to the local shopping mall, and found the album (Sweet Baby James) and it was, like, $ 3.99, which was too much for me at that time. Had I bought it, I would bought it for this great song ! It all seems like yesterday to me.
