Sabaton released this cover the day before they released their original. They like Radio Tapok's work and have had him on stage with them during Russian concerts.
Greetings from Poland to the Russian brothers. I will tell you something about the defense of the Osowiec Fortress. Before the "attack of the dead", the Germans stormed Osowiec many times without success. The repeated attacks were understandable - the fortress, whose fortifications can still be admired in Podlasie, was erected to protect the north-western border of the Russian Empire. It was important - it not only protected Russia from an attack from Prussia, but also made it possible to carry out counterattacks on enemy territory. No wonder that during the First World War, the Germans could not afford to ignore it. The Germans knew very well that the Osowiec fortress had to be captured. During the first year of the war, they carried out several heavy attacks - all unsuccessful. To destroy the fortifications, artillery was pulled up. The weapons used against the fortress included the famous 420-mm heavy siege mortars M-Gerät, known as Fat Berta. During one of the artillery barrages, 360 guns fired a volley every 4 minutes, trying to destroy the fortifications and break the morale of the defenders. Over a million shells have been fired - to no avail. Less than a thousand defenders, of which only half were regular units of the tsarist army, fought off all attacks. In such a situation, the commander of the German forces, Marshal Paul von Hindenburg decided on the final solution - the use of combat gases. From the beginning of August, the Germans waited for the right weather. Finally, on August 6, 1915, a wind of sufficient strength and direction provided favorable conditions for a gas attack. 30 batteries of gas throwers were brought to the fortress, which released a cloud of chlorine and bromine. After traveling about 10 kilometers, it was several kilometers wide and several dozen high. Gliding close to the ground, she began to crawl between the Russian-manned fortifications. 12 German battalions, about 7,000 battalions, set off for the final attack on what seemed to be the deserted fortifications. soldiers. The soldiers moving behind the gas cloud did not know that they would witness an event that would go down in history as an attack by the dead or - in a slightly more blunt version - an attack by the living dead. Because the Russians were not going to wait for death. Among the survivors, the highest rank was Second Lieutenant Vladimir Kotlinski. He managed to collect the remains of the defenders - horribly burned, half-dead losers. This very unit, a little over 100 people, left the fortifications and launched an attack on bayonets. The sight must have been terrifying. Spitting blood, half-conscious with lung-rending pain, the Russians fought, but many of them were already dead - their injuries gave them no chance of survival. Wrapped in rags and shirts, with which they tried to somehow protect their faces, they attacked the German troops several dozen times stronger. The sight was so terrible and the impetus of the attack so great that the Germans stopped. They gave up. And then, in panic, they began to back away.
Hello from Russia! Radio tapok added in this video cuts from movie for Wargaming "Attack of the dead men", check this out, there is English subtitles. Radio tapok is really talented guy, love him))) thanks for your awesome reaction! Hugs:)
Thank you for reaction. I think, you should watch short movie "Osowiec", in this video are shots from =) Also Radio Tapoc have cover on Sabaton's Night Witches, Panzercampf and Primo Victoria =)
From what I know, Radio Tapok’s cover of this song came-out before the original song by Sabaton. Sabaton actually offered RadioTapok to release this cover earlier than original....
The "hundred men charge again, die again" line isn't about hundred men replacing the hundred fallen before them. It's about the hundred defenders of the Osowiec fortress - all that remained after the fortress was gassed (counterattacking the German forces moving in), combined with Sabaton lyrics playing up the undeath theme, as if the Russian soldiers actually were undead, dying and coming back again. While in reality they were dead men walking (no more protection than rags against poison gas), with gas burning out their eyes and lungs, making them bleed and cough up their own lungs, knowing that they WILL die and with nothing left to lose they still continued to do their duty and tried to push the enemy away (which they did). Radio Tapok's lyrics actually tone down the undeath theme and in general are pretty different from the original in that regard. It goes somewhere along these lines if we're going iteral translation: There's thunder in the east, Wilhelm' plan is doomed Thinking it will an easy fight, being intoxicated by war Germans released the gas, taking hunders of souls in an instant And yet their soldeirs saw how the dead stood up again They're all sickned up Knowing how it ends they've still been pushing forward Osowiec, death, corpses, poison The dead platoon went into the attack They were moving on to win You cannot kill something that's already dead Dead fields, Hindenburg against the TsarAnd attack of the dead sent the enemy into panicCoughing up blood, spitting it outEverybody knew that they're already deadMarching upon the enemy, Russians charged with bayonets ready They're all sickned up Knowing how it ends they've still been pushing forward Osowiec, death, corpses, poison The dead platoon went into the attack They were moving on to win You cannot kill something that's already dead
