I used to work for a heavy haulage company that had a 6x4 version of that Scammel truck, they had a 60 ton trailer that could carry 200 ton on it and even fully loaded it pulled it fine. It was restricted to about 9mph fully loaded because of the tyres over heating, but when it rained you could zip along at 12mph. :D
British engineering at its finest and they can always make very good stock training videos for the wreckers and rescue vehicles they can always be a very good work horse
Happy memories of when we did The Great Dorset steam fair, I spent 2 weeks there with my old Scammell Explorer. The show was all but packed up and a low loader with a load of huge boulders on got grounded. Theye were trying to move it with 2 big John Deere tractors. There was nothing left there that could move it. A bloke came up and asked could we shift the trailer......it was 120 tons! So we took the old girl over hooked up and we shifted it up to the road so they could unload it! That same day also helped load a truck onto a trailer with the crane! Scammells were the dogs 🍊🍊, they could shift anything👍🏻🇬🇧
ex REME i love my old scammels pioneer explorer crusader then the govermant killed them off but they still exsist as unipower but when my nice scania is in the scrape yard 50,60,70yr old scammels will still be running.off road unbeatable on roab will move anything best off england and proud off it
When post war Britain was in a power station building frenzy a person would occasionally see Pickfords Scammels hauling 300 ton transformers on 64 wheel trailers along the A62, occasionally peeling up asphalt when changing gear.

I didn't know this scamel brand did exist I love heavy trucks and definitely for me this trucks are the best ever made, maybe scammel disappeared because its very high quality, when the British do the thing well nobody can beat them

To the yanks slagging british engineering off,your abrams tanks did very well in the gulf war didn't they?,all got stuck in the sand,broke down,and kept running out of fuel,or near to it,whilst our old centurians just kept roaring on,your stuff isn't the be all,and end all
Many Americans appreciate overseas vehicles of all kinds.
I even stumbled upon an American who owns a Bristol decker who rebuilt the Gardner motor himself and is very knowledgeable on the Wilson gearbox.
Let me tell yea, as a yank, I can't stand behind any of my fellow yanks that cannot appreciate incredible engineering when they see it. I think the Scammell is fantastic. Along with many other trucks including the Unimog, many MAN vehicles, hell I cannot name them all. If they are from the U.S., U.K. GERMANYor better yet, if they are big, have big tires and in most cases, many axles, you cannot go wrong. I am just thankful there is a place like TH-cam where I can come and see what there is on the other side of the pond where I would not usually get a chance to see. And don't get me going on Bulldozers.

As a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) crewman from 86-98, I can say that “force multiplier” seems to mean “when they do work, they’re almost magic.” That’s only a slight exaggeration, but MLRS did require a few man-hours of work, every day, rain, snow, or blistering heat, in order to be effective, and even then one of the numerous electronic components would always go bad between one fire mission and the next.
The Abrams? A great machine, fast, smooth, accurate, and survivable, but nobody ever said a helicopter engine in a tank would be fuel efficient, and it didn’t take long to find out 1 or 2 2500-gallon tankers per tank company wasn’t nearly enough. I was in the US 24th infantry division (mechanized) during Desert Storm, and our solution was to take all the tankers from individual units and run huge fuel convoys. It wouldn’t have worked for very long at the speeds we were moving, and if we hadn’t had total air superiority it would have worked maybe once or twice. Ideally we would have been building fuel depots all across the northern Saudi desert for the 4 months of Desert Shield, but nobody expected things to go the way they did.
But if you want to be able to shoot while moving 40mph cross-country and have an almost 100% chance of a first-round hit, you need the delicate, fragile technology that makes it all possible, whether you’re an Abrams, Challenger II, LeClerc, or Lee-oh-pard.

Good point! But i think to keep air pressure up to keep the brakes off and to supply power to the steering may be a reason...
@@uncletam Exactly so! You have to keep aired up or the spring brakes engage and then bolts start snapping as the lead Scammel starts pulling the frame mounted clevis/pintle tow hooks off of the followers. LOL

So why do all the trucks have their motors on. You can't tell are they just pulled or are they helping?
ggurks it makes the steering easier,as the engine is running the power-steering pump,try turning the steering wheel of your car when its engine is off,you'll get the idea that way

Nothing to see here. Any modern high power Scania/Volvo tractor unit would pull that weight no problem and at a much higher speed. The very poor build quality/ un refined crap churned out by the UK for so many years like ERF/ Leyland/ Sudden Accident (Seddon Atkinson) was a diabolical travesty inflicted on so many poor drivers it was no wonder none are in business anymore..
seddon accs where based on Iveco just look at any showman they always use old erfs an fodens/seddy acc must be ah reason 4 it cause new stuff can't cope with the punishment or maybe it was because they used Cummins diesel
Showmans stuff usually has Gardner power, low revving, low power engines that will slog on powering generators and the kind for long periods of time. Gardners may be long lived engines but completely useless at pulling any weight..
Talkin out your arse! lots of showmans trucks have gardner power, 'cos it's reliable and can pull the weight all day.
Why do you talk so much rubbish, you clearly have no concept of what is involved in pulling that sort of weight, there was nothing wrong with British trucks, the backbone of this countrys haulage system for many decades.
Yes, for decades until transport saw the light and ditched all the brit crap. This is exactly why there is no more UK truck industry.
