I can tell you why you can instantly recognize the guitar work for anything they do, its Syn's writing he does most of both parts, then with his signature pickup, style, and that Hellwin custom amp leading the charge. It's crazy the sound they find every time.
As a former medic in the army, this song is a beautiful gut punch. It’s pulled me out of some dark places. I went on to be an instructor for Army Medics and we would play this and the scene from Blackhawk Down for our students. That final guitar solo is the relief that comes from death after the hardest fight, realizing that it’s ok to go and the pain and suffering is gone. I try to do the same in those dark moments, let that solo take the pain and failure away. Knowing that I need to bring the memory of my buddies with me, do the shit that we talked about and live a life that is worthy of their sacrifice.

They then went a different direction with Arin and ultimately Brooks Wackerman, who they’ve now been with since 2016. I wish they kept Portnoy as he’s one of my favorite drummers of all time but Brooks is no bum.
