I enjoy Hitchcock movies more than Scorsese in general. But what do I know. Goodfellas and the Departed are the only ones I'd watch again. While psycho, vertigo, rear window, stranger's on a train...etc...no contest.

Peter Weir is underrated. Had some great early films that Samson didn't even touch on like Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave, and The Year of Living Dangerously.

Also, no real cinephile would have only 1 non-American director on the list of Top 5 directors. And only putting Kurosawa at #5? Come on Adnan. That said, Adnan’s list slapsss. Coen Brothers, Kurosawa and PTA are all in my top 5. Favorite is a toss-up between Coens/Kubrick. Spike Lee’s highs are certainly top 5 worthy but considering his prolific output he’s got a few too many skips in his catalog to make my list.
I’m the furthest thing from a Samson-ite and his taste in movies isn’t anywhere close to mine (out of all of Fincher’s movies … Benjamin Button??? 🤡), but I kind of enjoy hearing David’s comments about the movies he likes. I agree with Dan’s description of David using movies to try and understand humanity, cause it feels as though he’s probably overcompensating for other aspects of his life. But at least I understand his viewpoint on why he believes a movie is strong. Meanwhile, my taste in movies is likely somewhat closer to Adnan’s (at least out of these two options), but his comments sound exactly like excerpts from studio press kits. And I’m speaking from some experience cause I used to have to ship those out as an intern. It often feels like Adnan has a very “80s/90s TV movie critic” approach where he talks around movies instead of about them. His opinions sound like AI generated comments about movies that only has access to Leonard Maltin and Gene Shalit reviews. His love of the movie industry comes through more than any real love for movies. Having said that … great segment!
