    I agree, while I enjoy SOME Cubans there are FAR superior cigars. Especially being produced in the Dominican, and Nicaragua. Far more flavor, power, AND complexity. My opinion of course, but still lol

      Which ones then? Because Ive tried a lot of non cubans including cigars of the year and they dont hold a candle to Cubans.
      Im smoking an Oliva V right now and its not even close to a $5 Cuban lmao and Im not joking. The flavour does not stay around at all on these non Cubans thats the biggest problem. The flavour is gone in seconds. Cubans stick around and are delicious.

    Firstly, let me say my experience with Cubans is limited as I have smoked MANY more new world cigars than Cubans: however, I would say it is all personal preference. I enjoy the flavor profile of Cuban tobacco and there are times when I want to enjoy something more robust such as a Padron. The beauty is in the variety available to us as cigar lovers.

    My very first cigar was a Cohiba Robusto and the second was a Siglo 3. The Robusto was a mistake as first cigar, but the Siglo was really great and my all-time favorite in terms of uniqueness. Nothing has ever come close to matching its unique flavor and smell to me. I agree that they are the standard and that everyone should try one at least once to have an idea of what a cigar should taste like.
    This was 11 years ago. That said, despite the standard they set, they are not the best overall, especially for the price they go for today. The New World Cigars have much better choices, better construction, and quality for the money. It's simply not worth buying a Cuban unless you get a good stick for a good price or just for a one-time experience. I refuse to pay 70 plus dollars for a Cohiba or any label that comes from Cuba.
    Oliva, 1502, Perdomo, La Aroma de Cuba, A. Fuente are much better choices for your money.

    I grew up smoking Cuban cigars. We couldn’t get anything but Cuban. Now I have tried a lot of the others I can say some are really nice. They lack that mineral taste that Cuban cigars have. But they are fine . I’m used to my Cubans but I’m beginning to like others. One I’ll mention is Padron really enjoy them

    Cigars are subjective. We all have our favorites. Most Cubans I smoked (bought in Cuba) tasted great, but was very tight. I had to use a poker on most of them. Especially Montes. Dominicans are great but when a Cuban is rolled right and aged to perfection, it's hard to beat the flavor.

    It’s likely about personal taste. If you have a unique taste to a cigar. People who prefer Cubans either like this taste or like it because you tend to like something you spent the most money on.

      @@CharlesWalhingford that's usually always the case with these kind of people. It's either a political stance against Cuba, or the fact that Cubans are not accessible in their country so they want to convince themselves and others that what they're smoking is superior or they think they're patriotic by supporting domestic brands and what not.
      Currently smoking a cheap, cheerful and aged Cuban Super Partagas while my few Drew Estate, Arturo Fuente and Oliva cigars are rotting in the humidor. And I wouldn't want it any other way.

      1. Cuban twang. Taste can not be replicated even with Cuban seeds unless utilising Cuban soil.
      2. Aging potential. The usual argument would be that NC cigars are already aged. Yet still, smoke an Oliva fresh or aged for 10 years and the last third will still taste sour/bitter. No aging potential. Cubans only get better with age on them. Like a fine wine. But I wouldn't expect an unrefined American or Westerner to understand such delicate things in life.
      3. Collectability.
      4. History.
      5. Tradition.
      6. Originality.
      And the list goes on.

      The cigars I enjoy the most tend to be Nicaraguan, but for me Dominican and Hondurans also rank above Cubans.
      Not only for taste, but certainly for quality control and build. I haven’t yet tried a Cuban that was anything like worth the money I paid for it. Budget Nicaraguans I’ve had blew them out of the water.

    There are 3 territories of greatness: Cubans world brands, Padron and Davidoff. In Europe and Asia the VAST MAJORITY of cigars enjoyed are Cuban. Davidoff is also up there X-US. New world brands and the US market has moved towards power, power, power and strength, high nicotine smokes. Much of the CA ratings are driven by advertising. In terms of cost, Cubans from Switzerland are usually cheaper. A box of D4’s is 229 dollars landed, a box of No.2s is 299. The US market is constantly releasing the next BIG thing which is why Rocky Patel has 100 lines.... it’s all marketing and most of these new world cigars at JR are garbage. My Father’s where half the cigar is banded or the smoke and mirror marketing of the Caldwell lines. It’s a joke. Partagas, Montecristo, Cohiba Bolivar and Trinidad make great cigars. Will you run into a plugged cigar or a tight roll from time to time, yes. Does smoking Cuban tobacco require patience and some aging? Yes. It’s not for everyone. It’s about ‘time and patience’. At the end of the day it’s what you enjoy, that’s what matters. My point is there is a reason for Cuban’s popularity WORLDWIDE an it’s not hype or lore. The European and Asian pallet favors the Cuban profile. You don’t see people in Europe smoking new world cigars very often. It’s not because they can’t find a Liga Privada at their local store.

  • @jonathanj5713
    @jonathanj5713 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry but I absolutely disagree on your sentiment that no other cigars have the same characteristics of Cuban cigars. Completely and utterly disagree. I’m from Canada 🇨🇦 and we get the best of new world cigars and old world (Cuban). You can find just about the same profiles on both (not easily BUT you can get just about identical flavour profiles between Cuban and Non Cuban). One example I can give you recently is a Hoyo De Monterey Epicure No 2 and the Roma Craft Intemperance goodness, extremely similar I would say you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. I can provide more examples if needed. But I agree on the fact that Cuba perfected the cigar.

    • @CharlesWalhingford
      @CharlesWalhingford  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If that is what you taste; that is what you taste. I can't successfully argue that you are wrong with something like this. However, I did say in the video that some non-Cubans have come close to the Flavor of a Cuban Cigar. However, However... That Cuban Hoyo Del Monterey Epicure No.2 is so mild that smoking a paper bag could come close(again that is my subjectivity). The better point I can argue is the fact that you are from Canada.That fact is truly insignificant, being from Canada does not make you have a better palate or more experienced on the subject.
      Thanks for watching and the comments are appreciated.

      Charles Walhingford only reason I mentioned that I’m from Canada is the fact that I can walk into my local tobacconist / cigar shop and readily pick between an assortment of cigars whether Cuban or non Cuban. But I guess you’re correct taste is all subjective. Either keep up the videos. (Can I suggest a mic that clips on to your shirt for better audio, check Amazon they’re like $12 and will increase the quality of your voice audio, my video production team for my company use them for some training segments we do)
      Also on the topic of the epicure 2 mild yes in body but it’s very complex in taste, maybe age them a little bit more, they have a very complex flavour profile (a lot of reviews online and cigar Aficionado I think says similar)

      1.Johnathan I can get any Cigar from anywhere thanks to the internet
      2. I have used it before and it does not last. Furthermore, the difference in the sound quality is not solely determined by the microphone and that 12 dollars microphone is not better than this one.
      3. I am sure that cigar does taste different after some aging but saying that slightly changes the subject at hand. Did that aged Hoyo taste the same as the Roma Craft or are you comparing a Newer/Fresher Hoyo de Monterey to the Roma Craft?

    • @jonathanj5713
      @jonathanj5713 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. I understand that, point is as an American you’re jumping through hoops. But alas whatever doesn’t matter.
      2. For these types of videos I personally think those type of mic’s are better but whatever you prefer
      3. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t aged for long, it was about 8 months old, but putting a year or 2 on them just opens up the flavour profile that much more. I honestly don’t know how old the Roma Craft was, they were loose sticks. But reiterating that saying that the Hoyo epi 2 has the flavour profile of a paper bag, myself and actual industry professionals disagree wholeheartedly

    • @CharlesWalhingford
      @CharlesWalhingford  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonathanj5713LOL,The Hoyo is definitely not a paper bag but being far too light for my liking renders it equal to a paper bag(especially when making a argument such as this). I am sure it is a far better product after some aging.
      Well the industry professionals... Like it or not everyone sells out. The question is when. For an example, there have been Cigars of the Year and runners up that never should have been considered. Why...? Selling out. The wonderful thing about selling out in the realm of cigars is that it is subjective and you can hind behind subjectivity on your decision. In addition to that everyone has personal biases. These things come into play when rating a cigar. Believe a blind taste test if you want but some things can't exist while the other does not. Meaning, in order to have a palate to distinguish flavors as acutely has these Industry Professionals say or proven to have, they must have the ability to taste and identify classics like the Monte Cristo No. 2, Bolivar Belicosos, your Hoyo Be Monterery Epicure No. 2 with no problem. So you can't be unbiased.
      I was considering doing a video on this very subject. I think I will make it happen soon.
