I can't believe how articulate the commentator is with a very clear voice and I assumed knowledge of these products. Yet despite showing off all the wonderful features of these tape emulators, he has picked the worst possible playback source for use to demo these. When you start with a song that is so processed, you can barely hear any difference with each feature he is trying to highlight. There is nothing wrong with the song, just to busy and saturated with effects and artifacts already.
Maybe TB Reels has a bit to many controls for simple tape emulation duties. Softube's Tape does a better job with less controls if not pushed to extremes. Jus my opinion 😉
@@sageaudio No disrespect, but TB Reelbus isn't as hard to beat, even with all those extra controls. Doesn't smootdh out that sharp digital sound like the softube Tape does.
Perfect video! I hadn't really heard of reelbus, and learned so much about the other two that I've owned and loved for years. Clearly and comprehensively presented with good music and no BS. Many thanks!
the Voxengo CRTIV tape bus plugin is worth checking out. it has the ability to change the knee of the saturation and also can choose from different tape impulse responses making it very flexible
Hey Saturn Voyager! Thanks for leaving a comment. A bit - but Reaper has a 60-day trial, whereas the demo of Tonebooster's plugin doesn't expire. SageAudio.com
@@sageaudio You can keep using Reaper when its time trial has expired. That's why I choose that as example. I have the Reelbus on iPad version and it works pretty cool, wanna test the softube one. I use the Magnetite by Black Rooster Audio, as a focusrite user got it for free but I don't know, I was expecting much more from it, specially on mix bus approach.
Love the deep dive, yet reasonable time you did this in. I was considering getting the Softube Tape sale for $40, but I think I might just give that money to Toneboosters. Great job once again!!! Barricade and EQ4 coming soon!!! :)

It has 2x internal oversampling if you use 48KHz sample rate and it turns it off after you for 96KHz or higher, but only B settings have aliasing I use it rather subtly and like the C settings the most the tape effect is rather subtle so I use it more as tone machine for subtle movement and crossfeed and bit of eq/saturation not for obvious tape distortion effect...

you got the tape types all wrong bro
- Softube Tape Types:
A: Studer® A827 2 inch 24-track Tape Recorder
B: Ampex® ATR-102 1/2 inch 2-track Mastering Tape Recorder
C: EMI BTR-3 2-track Tape Recorder (Found Only In Abbey Road Studio)

Why use a lifeless pop track as the example??
Would have been better if it was guitars bass and drums keyboards.
Truth, and the vocal tracks of this era are invariably ridiculously over-processed dreck that typically feature people that cannot sing well.
this type of music really dont fit Tape....stuff....
