Linus you forgot about Windows ME in 2000. Not that it was a substantial mark in history. But it did play a part in Microsoft's failed OS's after the years of Windows 98se.

Used to have windows 7 on all of my PCs. only recently (about a week before the free upgrade ended) switch to windows 10. Still prefer 7, cause it felt more "programmy" and "technical" to me.
I'm definitely going to stay with 7 for as long as I can unless they release another version of Windows that doesn't include all the new bs they are trying to give you with 10 (So I've heard).. I just want something that is just plain simple.

I'm using Windows 8.1 specifically because of Windows 10. My PC is fully capable of handling Windows 10, but post-creators update caused a lot of problems, more specifically, performance in games. I also had problems moving icons on the desktop. Overall, I just liked 8.1 more anyway.
OSX High Sierra is so much better than Windows 10. I'm soooo glad I switched out of Windows to the Mac ecosystem. Never going back! I used to be a Windows fan and didn't like Macs but I made a complete 180.
Technically Windows 95 wasn't the first version of Windows to support 32-bit application, that was Windows NT 3.1 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NT_3.1 , which came out in July 1993. Windows NT 3.5 and Windows NT 3.51 also shipped before Windows 96 was released. However the Windows NT branch was aimed at enterprise customers, so for consumers Windows 95 was probably their first taste of 32-bit apps vs 16-bit applications

The first windows OS to have a 64-Bit Edition was actually Windows XP when they released a 64-Bit version a couple of years after the initial release of the 32-Bit version.
And it didn’t catch on because almost no hardware had compatible drivers and xp x64 used more resources than xp x86

Actually, the tipping point for Windows was version 3.0 / 3.1. It improved multi-tasked operations and had better upper memory management. It was the start of the downfall of the competing software from Quarterdeck and paved the way for Windows over DOS applications.
When DEC went under and Microsoft bought the RTOs operating system they produced NT and, at long last, had a good operating system. Side note: DOS 4.0 is still used. Long live UnixWare.

I'm using Windows 8.1 specifically because of Windows 10. My PC is fully capable of handling Windows 10, but post-creators update caused a lot of problems, more specifically, performance in games. I also had problems moving icons on the desktop. Overall, I just liked 8.1 more anyway.

OSX High Sierra is so much better than Windows 10. I'm soooo glad I switched out of Windows to the Mac ecosystem. Never going back! I used to be a Windows fan and didn't like Macs but I made a complete 180.

Technically Windows 95 wasn't the first version of Windows to support 32-bit application, that was Windows NT 3.1 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NT_3.1 , which came out in July 1993. Windows NT 3.5 and Windows NT 3.51 also shipped before Windows 96 was released.
However the Windows NT branch was aimed at enterprise customers, so for consumers Windows 95 was probably their first taste of 32-bit apps vs 16-bit applications
In 1985 we also had Workbench for the Commodore Amiga.
