We had the CD edition of “Jones in the Fast Lane.” I would sometimes put it in the CD player in the living room, because all the voice lines are just specific audio tracks after the game tracks. So one after another, you could hear the storekeepers give their responses to stuff out of context.
Annnnndddd senior quote: "With standards this low you'll never get your hopes up too high only to have them quashed by the harsh reality of failure" Perfect.
I've looked for this for years! I thought it was called Keeping Up with Jones or something--maybe why I was unsuccessful! It was a fun time-filler. Easy to learn, quick to play. I spent a lot of time on this in the early 90s when I wanted a simple game fix without getting caught up in something super complicated and time-consuming. It was a simpler time...
roses i followed you recently and i'm glad. i never played most of the games you review/lp but i love watching it. i have a fondness for oldschool pc games since i didn't get to play them as a kid. plus, it's great to see a lady in this field of youtube!
It's interesting that you find a piece of media ( of a different time period) a few days ago, and when you experience it, it makes you feel nostalgic, even if you have no nostalgia about it.
I've never played this one ever, but I know what you mean. Feels like one of the classic Sierra games that we all played and loved. Good review, as always, and thanks for sharing it with us... cheers ;) x
Dude, roses. Just had this one show up in my TH-cam channel whatever one to the left. It’s sooo old. Makes me laugh. Been a sub for years. I probably watched it, and it makes me laugh. Your the only fib I can handle. Love your channel. Keep your people out of Wisconsin please. Thanks. Love, Kenosha
I just discovered your channel. I love it because you are my age and I grew up with a Macintosh Performa so I get to see all the awesome CD ROM games I saw as a kid but never got to play because they weren't Mac compatible.
I don't think any of the other reviews mentioned Monolith Burger was a Space Quest reference. That's why you're the best when it comes to Sierra game reviews!
Played this game all the time with 2 other friends when we were younger. Still play it myself once in a while to kill some time. One of the worst times I had playing against Jones was when he won $5000 from a lottery ticket. All he did it was go to the broker and put it ALL on Penny Stocks. That was a nightmare that took him about 15 minutes to get through it all.
I thought I was the only one who even knew this game existed. This is the only multiplayer game my friends will play with me, hell they like it even more than me.
Great review! Just wanted to point out that fries are so outrageously expensive because you're buying a week's worth of them - breakfast, lunch and dinner. That's 21 orders of fries per week. Paying 40-50 bucks for that actually makes sense... :)
Oh man! I just flashed back to playing this with my older cousin when I was little. I always ended up having to live off dog food in this game. Probably conditioned me for my life long love of simulation games.
It's possible for me to open two windows and play this video simultaneously in each of them, becoming lost in the madness that is two Jones in the Fast Lane reviews. Therefore, Jones in the Fast Lane has a one-up on TH-cam itself. :-D
I realize lots of other people are commenting on it, but damn, that purple hair looks amazing! Also, I'm a total sucker for a "Life in the Fast Lane" reference. As a Dudeist I'm probably meant to hate the Eagles, but I just can't.
To be fair I think it's meant to be $62 for a weeks worth of fries, not just a single order. So the real question is how many orders of fries do you need to get to survive off of just that for a whole week, that'll give you your cost per order.
Every time I hear the name Sierra, I think of Diablo, half-life, and homeworld. They published a lot of really great classics.. As for Jones in the fast Lane, I don't think I could be immersed when French fries are that expensive! Fries has never been $53. Immersion broken
This review of the game was better than the other two. One focused too much on jokes, one focus too much on game mechanics. This one was a good combination of both while being more thorough. After I first saw this video I played until each of the four characters had won and until I had beaten all three difficulty levels. I think I must’ve played a buggy online version cause Jones was a total moron on “go for broke” difficulty. Oh and after a few weeks I just played it AGAIN, beating the game on the highest level with Stan Zbornak this time
Jones in the Fast Lane... Oh man, this game is amazing. I've been thinking lately that the world could do with a new game like this. Oddly enough, the version I played - the floppy version, without voice acting - had a different guy working at Monolith Burger. Odd, cause everything else seems the same.
I remember watching you play this during one of your streams a good while back (like several years at least, probably during your time with CA?) and I don't think I ever got over the wacky economy and the fact that an hour of work couldn't even buy you an order of fries.
Hey, Roses! You were the best person I could think of to ask. Up to you if you want to answer or not. So I have a smartphone and noticed that there a number of DOS point and click games on the market place for them. I was just wondering if you have experience with them and if you feel the format works well.
I honestly have zero experience with them. I am not a big phone person, so it's rare I play anything on there at all! I really prefer my point and clicks on a computer. :)
As a kid, this game taught me that I will always win if I set my goals low enough.

Perfect.
You, LGR, and BrutalMoose? Crossover??? It'd be a miracle of dry humor and laconic sarcasm.
Ooh! I'd love to see the three of 'em playing this together!
ohhhhhh yes!
Yes,we Need That Even if It’s Just Done Through Zoom
I wish I could have as much fun with my job as the guy who works at Monolith Burger. He has some of the best lines in this entire game.
Jones is your opponent because "Keeping up with the Joneses"

"Sierra games belong to me and me only."
I will fight you on this.
You will lose.
Kombat begins.
A fight I'm still willing to see.

I used to love this game as a kid. played it all the time!!! way to go roses. way to go!
“Welcome to *High Tech U.* All of our professors wear *tweed jackets* with *elbow patches*.”
I just love your hair in this episode. It's always gorgeous but the colour this time is delightful.
I love it too! it's so pretty
Many good memories from playing this one. I once beat Jones in the hardest mode. The secret is killing Jones.
I used to play this with my friend growing up, and your video just gave me serious nostalgia. Thanks for covering this underrated classic!

I thought I was the only one who thought of the Eagles when I see the title for this game.
*cries a little, but grins at the same time*
Jones is just Nigel thornberry without his moustache
Easy. You spent 10 dollars for tissues because the fact you had to spend your off time playing solitaire made you cry.
LOVE this game! My siblings and I used to play it together all the time.
I LOVED jones in the fast lane when I was a kid!!!!
"I strive to meet my education and wealth goals while staying chronically depressed"
You really just gonna call me out like that?
It's interesting that you find a piece of media ( of a different time period) a few days ago, and when you experience it, it makes you feel nostalgic, even if you have no nostalgia about it.
My friend and I loved playing this game.
I remember playing this when I was so young. I loved it a lot.
I loved this game so much!
Nice! Played this in High School, and even then it was retro :)
5:50 Golden Girls reference, and I got it, yay!
Roses's fashion is amazing :)
My best friend when I was in middle school had this game and we used to play it on the weekends. But his copy didn't have the voice acting.
love this game!!!! I still have the Original DOS CD game in my collection. There is a flash version of the game on the inter-webs!!
We need a battle royale version of this right now!
I've never played this one ever, but I know what you mean. Feels like one of the classic Sierra games that we all played and loved. Good review, as always, and thanks for sharing it with us... cheers ;) x

loved the spring day in '91 when i picked up this game as one of my earliest game purchases...still give it a go now and then =)
I just discovered your channel. I love it because you are my age and I grew up with a Macintosh Performa so I get to see all the awesome CD ROM games I saw as a kid but never got to play because they weren't Mac compatible.
My god this game IS life. Right down to how the key to winning is to set low standards for yourself.
I don't think any of the other reviews mentioned Monolith Burger was a Space Quest reference. That's why you're the best when it comes to Sierra game reviews!
The people were probably all Sierra employees. I think the professor at Hi-Tech University is Guruka Singh Khalsa.
There was also a weekend card that involved replacing your microwave after you tried to dry a hamster in it. You also needed a new hamster.
I've always loved this game!
Yay! More obscurish old-timey PC games! I do miss my black 'n white IBM beastie.. Absolutely love the hair, too!
Omg I remember playing this at my friend’s house in the 90s. It was weird.
Your edited content is so good. I hope you continue to focus on it even more.
Very cool to see this history after watching Stumpt do a play through
Yes! I've been looking for this game forever since my mom had it on her PC!
Roses looks ethereal with purple hair
"Low standards equals the path to success"
How the hell did you find out about my life goals, +PushingUpRoses? :p
I haven't even watched this yet, and I"m giving it a thumbs up, because jones in the fast lane.
Oh wow… this game… the memories!
The hair looks great! I also think you'd look terrific in just a barrel! The review was pretty fun too!
This channel is such a JOY 2 watch! Even in the current dat8... 💕🇵🇭

And suddenly the highest google search regarding you is "Pushing Up Roses Naked Barrel"

I love this game, brings back memories. A bit frustrating at times, especially when Wild Willy shows up right after I made a mayor withdrawal. :P
Stan Zbornak 😂🙌🏼 thank you for that Golden Girls reference !
Oh man! I just flashed back to playing this with my older cousin when I was little. I always ended up having to live off dog food in this game. Probably conditioned me for my life long love of simulation games.
Striving to maintain education and wealth goals while being chronically depressed, it's like you can see into my life!
This is another good bit of my childhood
Side note, I LOVE your new hair color!
It's possible for me to open two windows and play this video simultaneously in each of them, becoming lost in the madness that is two Jones in the Fast Lane reviews. Therefore, Jones in the Fast Lane has a one-up on TH-cam itself. :-D
“Welcome to High Tech U. All our professors wear *tweed* *jackets* , with *elbow* *patches* .” 🧐🎓🤓
I remember my mom playing this game when I was little. I tried to play it sometimes too, but since I was, like, three or four I never got very far.
You are really funny binge watching all the things! Subscribed!
i love love LOVE your new hair color and that has nothing to do with the fact that i had that too last year
Very much digging the purple hair. :) I'm a bit envious!
Your hair is gorgeous, I love it so much
Cool vid ! @9:05 that's been a major passtime throughout my life. Ha..
Keepin' up with The Jones!
Roses has evolved again! I love the purple hair--especially since it's my favorite color!! :D
I realize lots of other people are commenting on it, but damn, that purple hair looks amazing! Also, I'm a total sucker for a "Life in the Fast Lane" reference. As a Dudeist I'm probably meant to hate the Eagles, but I just can't.
Also, $18 an hour for "Department Manager?" In 1990? Where were they working, Hobby Lobby?
$62 dollars for fries....it's the future! #lazypoliticsjoke

How am I not subscribed to you yet?? *goes and does that*
Yet another great review of this great game, hopefully it gets released on GOG soon. Also I approve of the Ray Stevens reference in the description
Love the hair colour
Glory to the Jones! Shall our offerings of fires make him happy!
So that's 3 people that's reviewed this game already!
Good lord, was this game set in pre-war 2077? Look at those food prices.
Technically the food prices are for the entire week. So if you ate nothing but fries for a week... actually 50 bucks sounds pretty good.
This review of the game was better than the other two. One focused too much on jokes, one focus too much on game mechanics. This one was a good combination of both while being more thorough. Looking good PUR!
love this game, especially the music. You can play it online for free if I recall
LOVE the new hair color.
You look awesome in purple! Great review.

rjhelms the guy from monotith burger was originally Asian but it was changed after people complained
What?! A new Review?! Huzzah!!!! Purple hair is super sexy too 😍
Agreed.
quest for glory 3 when
I find this game oddly fascinating to watch. I must wander.
This looks pretty fun actually. Also: you can sing! :)
That hair is on point, Rose :)
Reminder that someone ported this to flash. Its such a fan hame everyone should try.
I remember this game cool!
I remember watching you play this during one of your streams a good while back (like several years at least, probably during your time with CA?) and I don't think I ever got over the wacky economy and the fact that an hour of work couldn't even buy you an order of fries.

Check out "The Life's Lane" it's a newer version of this type of game available on Steam!
this games needs a remake
I used to love this at the boys and girls club as a kid and forgot the name - thank you for the review !
Love the new hair color!
Love your hair and top. Also the character you played as looks like Bob from Bobs burgers
Never heard of this game looks like a lot of fun 🤖😊
Keeping up with the Joneses really is hard.
