Hello I watch all your videos they are always amazing. I have been gardening since I was kid, yet I still learn something from almost every video you make. Now to my question I have a FIG TREE and have no idea how to deal with it. I would like your help, please.
Please help! My potted figs seem to have an infestation of a extremely small white insect. From what I've noticed the fig trees have stopped growing and I'm worried these insects are feasting on the roots. Any advice on what to do? Thanks!
The expression on your face of pride and anxiousness as she was processing the taste of the fig to give you an honest rating was so wholesome. You should be proud of yourself for staying dedicated to this project for this long! Keep it up and maybe we could see you patent a fig variety in the future!
I’m very excited for you. In this day and age of instant gratification you are putting in the time to create something very special. Made my mouth water with the close up of that fig 👍🏻
I am in modesto ca and my grandmother had a. Huge fig tree in her back yard they were a dark color and the smell of it carried for blocks , its really cool to see your dedication to the planet and preservation of our trees are very important , thank you❤
Thank you for clarifying that figs grown here (US) do not have wasps. Some individuals have said to me that they don’t eat figs because they contain wasps. So glad that you brought out that point in your video. You are a genius! I personally love figs and am trying to successfully grow them. Thank you for sharing your project/experiment. Congratulations!
My Grandpa had fig trees in his yard that were big enough to climb and I used to eat them until I was sick. His trees were Celest. You've taken figs to "a whole new level!" Great job!
I live in Central Pennsylvania, bought a fig tree at a gardeners event many years ago. It was a cutting and she said her parents brought it from Italy so maybe some kind of Mediterranean fig. It was a green skinned fig and very prolific. I planted it in a giant tractor tire because I knew that it would have suckers and I think that helped to keep it warm. In the summer it had so many fig wasps that it was actually hard to get near the tree as the figs were ripening. I finally learned to ignore them and just pick figs that weren't currently occupied. The figs were like flowers and would actually open like blooms if left on the vine. I used to make jelly and can them because I would harvest buckets and buckets in some years. I never opened a fig or bit into a fig that had a wasp inside. Sadly, we sold the house last year fairly suddenly and I was unable to get cuttings to root. 😞 I do have pictures....

@@TheMillennialGardener congratulations on your success. This is as you know a very unique fig video. You are gonna have the fig community all geeking out over it. I can see it now… fig bid “Millennial fig” cutting bidding frenzy winning bid… $500.00 hahaha.
Awesome work! I'm always amazed at how much knowledge you pack in these videos in such a concise manner. Great format. So informative! Lookin forward to more new figs! :D
That is awesome! I could feel your excitement. You have inspired me to try Figs next year in my garden. Great channel, I watch all of your videos and learn so much. Thank you!
I love Figs it’s one of my favorite flower/fruits I’m making a orchard so I can grow fruits trees and vegetables and sell it for money too. I’m also a chef one of my goals is to make figs more popular in the USA.
Omg thats insane.. an earlier DSJG type.. yah Id say you hit the jackpot alright! The inside definitely looks very similar to its insanely delish mama fig.. Im excited to hear more in the future! 🤩
I truly appreciate being able to witness your fig Journey. I’m watched you collect the pollen and pollinate the fig. Then you got seeds, and they grew a new fig variety . Amazing. ❤️
two or three worthy figs, after years of work, care and documentation. and i was going to beg to buy one. [sighs] i'll be in heaven by then. maybe one of ur fig trees will be there too. god does provide. that fig looked so good; ur making me drool lol.
I live in Nova Scotia and love figs. We never have them in the stores and none of the nurseries carry the trees. Not sure I could grow them here so I live vicariously through you.
I really like fig, I have six trees and most people that know me think I'm crazy about gardening but you're taking to another level. Good luck, I wish you the best!
Congratulations, this is fantastic. I grew up in the south and we had fig trees and I love eating them. I now live in Wisconsin and it is too cold to grow them here unless you have a heated green house.
You can overwinter them in your garage. It may be tough to get them to ripen. Some people can manage in Zone 5 by carting them out early in the spring and bringing them back in the garage at night.
Very interesting and confusing (in a good way) video. For a minute there I thought you were going to cry when you tasted the fig. Congratulations, I see how dedicated you are to your fig tree program. Much success
the seeds I bought from tinker bug gave me about 30% sprouting trees, it was my first summer growing baby fig from seed. Good job on yours very inspiring.
I’m so excited for you and I don’t even know you. 😂 After you’re happy with the fruit/tree, are you considering propagating branches to produce your own line? Today I turn 61, I plan to be around to see it come together 😁
Congrats on your success with your fig trees. I just tried to figs for the first time today and I’m obsessed with them. They are similar to dates but not as sweet which is I like a lot.
Thank you for consistently putting out such great content. I have been following your channel for quite a while and have been inspired to create my own content and garden with a personal twist. Keep up the great work
Thank you for the interesting video and congratulations on the remarkable development of a new strawberry fig. You're very knowledgeable. I learned that my prolific Alma fig is a common, persistent female fig tree that ripens fruit on-it's-own without fertilization of a male tree. Texas A&M did the genetic development work. I'll be watching for a commercial release of this variety when you're ready. Keep up the great work.
Love this channel. I have learned so much from you. Nothing to do with figs, but I live just west of Philly and have grown a small 10’ x 12 ‘ garden for 20 years. I always put 6 cucumber plants along the rear, Tomato, eggplant, a few different peppers, basil. My cucumbers were good for about a month and died off. Yellow cucumbers went to the compost pile. 😂NOW I KNOW WHY. Now after watching many of your videos, I am getting 2, 3, 4, 5 cucumbers a day off 2 plants. There are almost a dozen more growing as I type this (Sept 1). I also am using your suggested string trellis system, along with the sun shade. My garden gets all day sun. That sun shade is BRILLIANT! Keep up the great videos. Thank you for making me a better gardener.
A lot of gardeners are stubborn and/or ritualistic/religious/dogmatic in their approach and forget that the gardener needs to grow as well! So don't forget to also thank yourself for making you a better gardener :D
Hell yeah. I am excited to follow this experiment and see how that variety (and all the rest - maybe there's a sleeper in there yet) turn out! You're living the dream. Eventually I'd love to try breeding for cold hardiness since I'm in 6a
Thank you! I don’t want to release anything until I’m sure it’s good. The market is flooded with a lot of redundant figs, so anything I release I want to make sure it is something special.

You have added another fig convert to the list of your viewers. Now I have to go back and watch all the fig videos about 5 times each. A couple of trees will definitely be on my list next spring from a nursery somewhere.

There was a lot of emotion in your eyes when you tasted your fig - you worked so hard! What an achievement 🎉
This is awesome. Not many growers would go this far to create new varieties. And I thought crossing peppers was hard!
