The joys of Nathan River Road. As you said great when it has just been graded but otherwise pretty poor. When it is good like you just had I used to go to Patsy's from Heartbreak in around 4 1/2 hrs but when it hasn't been graded like in 23 the last time I was there it took over 6 hrs for the same trip. I notice you guys have single axle trailers, I used to be the same until the current trailer, bogie axle which is now 18 yrs old. They all have their pros and cons but I find the bogie trailer with the tyres run on about 22 pound pressure gives my boat a nice soft ride. Incidentally when I first got my trailer the fools mounted the break line on the leading face of the front axle. Hence I got about 50k's on the dirt before it was chopped to bits.Currently the trailer has done the gulf sixteen times from southern NSW since 2007. Since then I have replaced the mudguards to heavy checker plate steel, the axles to 50mm solid square steel, the springs, U bolts to 5/8 from 1/2, shackle bushings and pins to grease able and the stainless brake calipers. Other than that the frame does not have a single crack or repair. Oh , on my 3rd set of tyres. But to enjoy what these places have to offer setting up your trailer is as you say mandatory. I have never seen a new trailer yet straight out of a workshop, that could withstand outback roads. PS. Your sons big barra at Limmen was why you go to these places, he beat my best Limmen barra by 1cm. Anyway thanks for taking us along on your trips. Brings back a lot of fond memories. cheers from The Darkside
Thanks for the excellent reply my dad tried tandem trailer years ago just build shit broken springs mudguards u bolts it all happened tyres fucked rims but the road was in extreme heat and really bad that year he ripped out suspension and we built a 65mm axel and full Firestone truck airbags with panhard rod quad shock system worked nice Your definitely onto what works for your set up Thanks for watching few different trips planned next year and will do a bit more local stuff hopefully in the Whitsundays where we live Thanks again and have a good Christmas to all your family and friends from Thumburn fishing
Thanks mate I did away with the U bolts on the axle and. Put a 10mm plate top and bottom with 4 x 12mm grade 8.8 bolts If you keep making things stronger they will eventually not break
Exactly just do a favour to yourself and replace those 8.8 with 12.9 grade as 8.8 will stretch very easily when loaded up Good to hear that you took the time to fix it before it became a problem have a great Christmas to all your family
Thanks mate - another really handy vid.
Cheers glad you like it 👍
Great info mate thanks 👍🇦🇺
No problem 👍
