The serial Dil Dariya (1988) directed by Lekh Tandon, primarily revolved around Punjab and its culture. The main plot may be jotted down as a tension between two families which still prevails even now.
The story was based on two best friends (and neighbours too) hailing from two different religious community, Hindu and Sikh respectively turns into a stringent and tensed relationship due to the tensed atmospheric situations prevailing in Punjab.
It was Lekh Tandon who gave Shahrukh Khan his first break in acting in a small role in a TV Serial "Dil Dariya"

It was never Irrfan's ambition to become a mainstream Bollywood actor. He chose to stay true to his craft while SRK chose to earn mainstream accolade. Both are valid choices. Their career paths were vastly different. SRK is much older than Irrfan. BTW, here's a fun fact. SRK produced Billu where Irrfan was the lead actor.

DD television was the most entertainment of the Indian People those days and mostly one single home would have a TV and other neighbors, and kids sit around to watch it, definitely, it was not a small thing to get a chance in DD also and SRK was lucky Kundan Shah supported him during initial days .and with his immense talent he is now on top and more importantly he is still sustaining.
