Very sorry to hear this Jason- I always looked forward to watching your content over here in Ireland. You inspired me so many times and I currently keep a lot of my own Tanganyikan’s because of you. Very best of health to you moving forwards and if you do return one day, you’ve got an instant subscriber here Take care mate 👍
Hey Patrick, I am so pleased to hear I inspired you so much! To hear that means a lot to me mate! I honestly did not expect this out pouring of emotion from so many of you wonderful people. It blows my mind that that little room in my house made such a difference to so many peoples lives from all over the world. Thank you so much for very kind words. In hindsight I should have included a bit in this video regarding the future of the channel. I have plans to continue to produce Tanganyika Cichlid related content. This includes some more species breeding videos, fish store tours, long term equipment reviews (which I think will be helpful seeing as I have so much equipment and have used some for years so the reviews will be way more meaningful rather than a simple unboxing!), fish room sale progression, how I got into the hobby, scientific papers on Cichlids, etc etc. I have a lot more ideas to keep the channel going and once I am in my new house I will have SO much more free time to produce them and make even higher quality content. So stay turned!
It’s a sad day. I found your channel when I got back into the hobby. I’m a Tanganyikan fan, and you and this channel resonated with me. I’m hopeful this is only bye for now. Good luck with the move and all great things life has coming you way!!!
It is a good bye of the fish room and the hobby but I will be keeping the channel going. I am so glad my channel resonated with you and I hope that it will continue to do so! I will be making a video soon regarding the future of the channel so everyone is aware that I am not going away! Thanks for the kind words too mate, means a lot!
Thanks for sharing. I have been through the same when selling our first house and not having a new house to move tanks and fish. It was devastating. Now 6 years on I have completed a new fish room and am finally getting myself back into the hobby. Hope you find your way back when you are ready, it is one of the most rewarding things I have found in life.
That is great you have been able to complete a new fish room and are getting back into the hobby. It is really nice to hear how rewarding it has been for you too, that is awesome. Like I said in the video, I may build a fish room again in the future if circumstances change. We will see, but I am happy to say the channel will continue with new videos once I move.
Thank you so much for the kind words, it's been a pleasure! I still have content ideas coming for the channel though even though I won't have the fish room for much longer
Many thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the content. I still have more to come in the future and yes maybe one day I will have a fish room again.
Same thing happened to me over 20 years ago.Too many kids, tiny house. Lucky there are some aquarium TH-camrs that maintain my interest in the hobby. Thanks for all your videos and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
Glad you were able to maintain your interest in the hobby via TH-cam and glad you enjoyed the videos! I am still planning more Tanganyika Cichlid related videos even though I won't have a fish room anymore. So look out for those! Love your youtube handle by the way 🤣🤣
The fish passion runs deep in you, youll be back! even if version 3/4? is several years from now. I've got a much smaller, manageable operation now adapted to my lifestyle. Have a blast on your new journey!
That was a powerful video. I feel your pain... but also your excitement for your future. I've watched all your videos over the past few years and rarely (if ever?) commented, but you felt like a friend. Good luck!
Thank you so much for the kind words, it really means a lot. I am glad you enjoyed the videos! It was not an easy decision but it is the right thing for me now. Glad you understand mate! I will keep the channel going though as I will have time to produce content once I have moved house. Cheers again
😳i can’t believe this! I had no idea…thank you Jason for all you have done for lake tanganyikan fishkeepers. Im not happy about this , im quite sad to be honest, and shocked!! I hope you return jason, and the very best of luck to you mate 🙏
I am sorry that this news has shocked you mate but the time is right. I may return one day yes. The channel will continue as I will soon have more time for more content once I move house. Thank you for your kind words though mate! Much appreciated! 👍🏻
Glad you found the videos useful! They will continue even though I won't have a fish room though. I have several ideas to keep the channel running with Tanganyika Cichlid related content. Cheers mate
I watched all your content and learned so much from what you did and showed us on your channel. The future will be bright and you can start fresh with new fish and a great new system that you can build. Stay strong and keep your head up high and don’t give up. Good luck and all the best.
So glad to hear you found the videos informative, that means a lot! Yes, maybe the next system will be even better and I will be able to share that journey with you all over again. The channel will continue as I still have content ideas so I won't be too far! Once I am in my new house I will have a lot more time to dedicate to producing more content. Cheers for the kind words 👍🏻
It has been a pleasure mate. I am so pleased to hear that so many of you have enjoyed the content over the years. The videos will continue even though the fish room is going, so you will hear all about it!
It's been a great ride, mate! I'll always appreciate when you asked me to explain why the genus was capitalized but not the species epithet. I got to chat with some venerable old scientists tracking that down for you! You were one of my favorite channels, paralleling my own fish breeding journey. Raising and breeding cichlids, and now getting out of it. For me it was a transition to keeping and breeding frogs. I hope for you the shift is for good reasons too. Be well. Good luck on your journey. And know you'll be missed.
Ahh yes, it was very interesting finding that out. Appreciate you taking the time out to explain it to me. Really means a lot to hear I was one of your favourite channels. That said, the channel isn't ending and I have more Tanganyika Cichlid related content coming. Thank you once again for your support!
Oh wow 😮 I really enjoyed watching your videos, and learnt so much from them. I also understand mate, best of luck for your next journey mate 👊 I’m sure you’ll own it 👌
Good for you bro. Always nice to see a youtuber being honest. Keeping a fish room like that is a massive responsibilty which is nice while you are enjoying it but there is no sense in working so hard if youve lost the passion for keeping up all those tanks. Enjoy your free time and whatever new things come along.
Thanks for the kind words mate. It is a lot of work but was also rewarding. Lots of factors lead me to this decision but the main one is moving house and unfortunately the fish room has to go to make that happen. The channel will continue though and I have lots of ideas for content. Funnily enough, I will have a lot more time once I move to make even better videos for the channel and I am looking forward to that.
Been there done that and greatly regretted getting rid of everything 5 years later when I wanted to get back into the hobby! I don't know what your plans are but but if at all possible I suggest just letting it set until you get the bug again (and you will get the bug again)!
I understand what you are saying believe me. I have left the hobby before only to return years later. This decision was not easy to make, hence why there was hardly any content in 2024. The fish room was actually shut down in September 2024. It just took me that long to get into the right head space to create the video to tell you all about it. That wasn't easy. As horrible as it sounds, in that time I have not missed having to go in there. I may get the bug again in the years to come but we will see. I am moving into a far smaller house and unfortunately to make that happen the fish room as to go. The good news is that once I am in the new place, I will still be producing videos for the channel though, so I won't be too far away. Thanks again for your words of encouragement. 👍🏻
Yeah never know what can happen. Once I am moved into my new place we will see. It's just a coincidence that he is leaving the hobby at the same time as me. Cheers mate all the best to you too!👍🏻👍🏻
Most fish keepers have a break but always get back into it even if on a smaller scale. Once u have the fish bug its hard not to think about Ur next setup. Hard to get the rarer tangs these days that seeing alot of fish keepers change to plecos . Good luck
Yeah they do. I have be in and out of the hobby pretty much since I was about 10. The hobby runs in our entire family so I may be back in the future. Yes that is true, plecos are becoming extremely popular! Thanks for your support
It is a common thing unfortunately. But I am moving into a smaller house soon so this has to go. I may get back into the hobby one day. The channel will keep going too as I have ideas for continued content! Cheers mate
Yeah we do. It was just getting too much. But the main reason is to move house. I do intend to continue to produce content even though I won't have a fish room anymore.
Next time get a pond. I recommend these: 1.) Laguna Basin Tub 2.) Tuff Stuff Stock Tank. You can use modern aquarium heaters like HiTuaing in Stock Tank Ponds ☝️ They’re much more durable than aquariums. Can also be in the backyard 😤 Good luck 👍
It has its moments that's for sure! In terms of return on money, depending on your fish selection, location and contacts in the industry, there is a lot of money to be made.
Sad video, however, I've been there and totally get it. I had a fish room a long time ago, but it got to where I just had too much going on and couldn't do it anymore and got out of it. I took about a 15 year break and now I'm back with fish but at a much smaller scale. Just because life shifts and you're "done" for now doesn't mean that will be the case down the road. To me it gets in your blood and I missed it but I had to get away from it to put in back into the right perspective and not have such a big overwhelming operation. Best of luck and we hope to see you again down the road if and when that time is right. Take care.
Thank you for understanding mate. I may follow in your foot steps somewhere down the line and like you maybe it will be smaller. I have learnt a lot through this process and it was a success. It definitely is in my blood, I have an uncle and two other cousins who are in the hobby. Glad to hear you are still in the hobby though, maybe the time will be right one day in the future! I will still be producing content for the channel though once I am in my new place. Thank you once again for the kind words
Thank you but the channel isn't over. I still have video ideas for Tanganyika Cichlid content coming. Once I am moved into my new house I will have a lot more time to put out content that I hope you will still find useful! All the best
Very sorry to hear this Jason- I always looked forward to watching your content over here in Ireland. You inspired me so many times and I currently keep a lot of my own Tanganyikan’s because of you.

Cheers Blake, yeah the time is right. All the best to you too mate 👍🏻
Best of luck Jason. Thanks for sharing your hobby with us over the years.
Thank you so much for the kind words, it's been a pleasure! I still have content ideas coming for the channel though even though I won't have the fish room for much longer
Props for what you’ve built as a hobby. Thanks for sharing your process and progress.
We’ll see you down the road someday, I’m sure of it.

Thank you so much for the very kind words. The fish room may be going but the channel will continue with Tanganyika Cichlid related content.
Wow good luck in the future from USA. THANKS for sharing
Thank you very much!
That’s a very sad video, but obviously you’re moving on in life and hopefully you’ll have a new fish room in the not too distant future 👍
Sorry John, yes I have to move on. I may have a fish room in the future, we will see. The channel will continue too, so I won't be too far 👍🏻
Sorry to see you leave. Hope you get back in to it in the near future. Thanks for sharing all your content
The fish room is over but not the channel. I do plan to continue to make Tanganyika Cichlid related content in the future.
Thank you for all the great knowledge and content that you shared with us! All the best for your future endeavours! Cheers

@@JasonsCichlids I'm glad to hear you are keeping on! 2025 is looking up knowing that, sir!
I had a 12 tank room that I had to get rid of so I can understand. Life changes at least you have some great memories!
Yeah, it hasn't been easy parting with the fish and soon the tanks, but 100% I have some great memories!
Oh wow 😮 I really enjoyed watching your videos, and learnt so much from them. I also understand mate, best of luck for your next journey mate 👊 I’m sure you’ll own it 👌
There will be more videos coming out soon, so the channel isn't over! But thank you for your understanding. Much appreciated!

All the best 👍🏻👍🏻

This is heart breaking.
Unfortunately this is a common theme in this hobby. People come and go, not too many make it a life long hobby. Best of luck to you.
It is a common thing unfortunately. But I am moving into a smaller house soon so this has to go. I may get back into the hobby one day. The channel will keep going too as I have ideas for continued content! Cheers mate
Very draining hobby when you do it well . All the best mate - Perth cichlids :) .
Hey Jason. Yes it really is! Thanks mate, hope you're well!
It’s all good 👍 Sometimes we just need a break
Yeah we do. It was just getting too much. But the main reason is to move house. I do intend to continue to produce content even though I won't have a fish room anymore.

Its a hard flog the ol fish room, and very little money return.

@ oh wow. Seems like you made a decent quid mate.
Glad to hear that atleast!!!! All the best for the future….!!!!
It was a great side hustle that's for sure! Thanks mate for the kind words 👍🏻

Thank you!
You can never quit fishkeeping only stop....Enjoy the freedom but it won't last very long lol
Well…that’s an easy unsubscribe. Best of luck to ya in your future endeavors.
Thank you but the channel isn't over. I still have video ideas for Tanganyika Cichlid content coming. Once I am moved into my new house I will have a lot more time to put out content that I hope you will still find useful! All the best
