Hey man. Do you have some advice on which scales I should proceed to learn? I can play every slash solo technically but I'm feeling the need to build some bases to understand better what he's playing and so that I can build licks and solos of my own. I already mastered the basic scales like penthatonic and the natural scale but Im feeling a bit lost now on where to go next xD
Hey man, all that i teach in my lessons. Hard to say for me right on the spot, as im self taught and i dont do any theory at all
@joäo The best thing you can do is go check out some interval theory. Learn what interval two notes are apart from another. As an example lets take a major third interval (it means that you play the root plus the note that is 4 frets up) so if we play an A note, the major third is a C#. Learn all the intervals in an octave.
Also learn these: the Dorian mode, major and minor pentatonics, blues scale, phrygian mode, harmonic minor scale, natural minor, major scale.
These are basically all that Slash uses. And what he likes most of the time is mixing the blues scale with one of the other ones determined by the song structure. So an example is Double talking jive. In the solo he uses a mix of the blues scale and the phrygian mode, maybe slipping in a few harmonic minor notes as well. But primarily the blues scale and the phrygian mode.
In pretty much all of his rocking out songs he uses the blues scale and the Dorian mode. He really likes that combo for like 60-70% of his songs.
Even Slash knows some musical theory, so if you want to follow his footsteps, invest some time in this.
