      Not necessarily. Depends on where. you are, I suppose. A Ph.D. is an academic terminal degree in the U.S., for example. But there are other terminal degrees of equal rigor.

    Totally agree with you it's so annoying when people say stuff like that you can tell that they have had someone take a title they didn't deserve or they are someone who does that , they feel the need to reflect their insecurities on other people 💖💝💖💝 so when you are met with something negative -lifes a mirror ,

    Actually MD mean doctor of medicine, not medical degree. So ye an MD is a doctor. Where you're getting confused is because Germany does not hold any MD programs. The process to practice medicine is different in Germany.
    But that doesn't suddenly mean that a doctor of medicine (MD) is suddenly not a doctor. Furthermore, an MD is often harder to get than a PhD.

    What sets the PhD and EdD apart from the MD is the level at which it is granted. PhDs and EdDs are considered equivalent doctorates and only differ in focus. PhDs and EdDs are terminal degrees granted by graduate schools and considered the highest degree an institution can offer. MDs are undergraduate degrees conferred as professional degrees. The JD degree has at its root the LLB which was also based in undergraduate context though it evolved over the years. Also, the Latin root for doctor means “teacher.” This is why there is disagreement in how the term is used more for prestige in some circles but it’s for accomplished teachers and scholars, though MDs fill this role in some contexts too. PhDs and EdDs are proper doctors and can use the designation as a title. Professor is also appropriate in the academic setting.

    medical doctors upon graduation in UK only have a BSc, MSc at a push, its like graduating in any other STEM discipline. They do not deserve that title until they have done further study, IMO.

    • @itsgonnabeanaurfromme
      @itsgonnabeanaurfromme ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In many countries a doctor of medicine is taken AFTER a Bachelor's and even master's degrees.
      Don't compare actual medicine to other STEM courses. Perhaps in the US or the UK where the doctors are incompetent and only do college level work.

    • @Andy_M.S.c
      @Andy_M.S.c ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's false, they are not PhDs, they're professional doctorates, like everywhere else, and the thesis that are presented in French medical studies does not award the degree a "doctoral" status. That's straight from the french site on medical education.
      PharmDs, MDs and DMD/DDSs are PROFESSIONAL doctorates. They are UNDERGRADUATE doctorates. PhDs are GRADUATE degrees. That's why many medical degrees are titled "Undergraduate doctorate in medicine". It's not a true doctorate, but due to complaisance we still assign the title doctor to them anyway.
      Many lawyers have JDs (also undergraduate doctorate). We don't call them doctor. The only degree that automatically grants the title doctor basically everywhere in the world is the same degree Dr Yonis has:
      A Third-cycle, graduate research doctorate requiring a doctoral thesis.
      Please know your own education system

    One of the main differences is that a PhD is typically an academic degree, while a doctorate can be either academic or professional. Additionally, a PhD is highly theoretical and research-focused, while a professional doctorate is practical and geared toward applying research to specific professional settings. A PhD isn’t higher than a doctorate.

    LOL. This insulting. A doctor is an English word that defines a person who is qualified to treat people who are ill. It is not just a title. It is a profession. It was coopted by the academic world. That shouldn't mean that a common Ph.D. holder would attempt to push Medical Doctors away from using Doctor as a title. And you are wrong in your assertion that in the USA that doctors aren't called Doctors. For heaven's sakes, they even use it as their suffixes. Please drop this notion.

      Please look at the historical origin and etymology of the word "doctor". You'll swiftly find out that the word means "to teach" or "scholar" (like doctrine). It was and is an academic term co-opted by the medical profession. Most of my friends in the medical profession even know this. The point of this video is to emphasise that PhDs are more than eligible to use the title Dr. (for receiving their doctorate). In fact, it makes the most sense. No stress either way, but the meaning and use of words historically, their rationale and origin are important.
