    imho...this is what the Nobel Prize was invented for....a cast off created for the good of humanity. I am just now getting slightly adept at kitchener stitch. it took a lot of time and a lot of swearing. Bless you for sharing : )

    Excellent video. Glad to add to other grafting videos! Thank you for posting.
    One suggestion - On the last step, if you pull the tail through that last stitch without doing a final twist, you can eliminate that “dog ear” and weave in the ends.

    I’ve done this before for reasons you state but couldn’t find it. Thankfully I did and I’ve written it down. Thank you for the lovely straightforward method.

    Excellent! I botched the kitchener stitch on my sock toe but at that point I just wanted it done, and I actually like feeling the seam at the toe of the sock, so I think I will try this on the next sock :) Thank you!! (and the braid does look cute, you're right!)

    @Rozikess Thanks, girl! Actually, this one was suggested in the Video Suggestions thread in the KNITFreedom forum on Ravelry! I would have NEVER thought of this (I actually didn't know how to do it until right before I filmed the video) if it hadn't been suggested to me. Isn't that cool?!

    Thank you for that video using a crochet hook! I actually used it to join a sleeve onto a baby cardigan and the "braid" actually looks cute and it has retained its elasticity which I was a tad bit wary about!

    Thank you Liat. This is perfect for garter stitch which I use to join using 3 needles bind off. And I was never happy with 3 needles bind off because I kept making visible stocknitte seam.

    I really like this I tried my first Kitchener stitch on a infinity scarf grafting the two ends together and though I understood the mechanics with all the two needles and the awkwardness of it I made a pigs ear of it this would be much easier for me I think thank you.........................

    I believe ifyou inserted the crochet hook in the back loop of the stitch (think of the way you slip the stitch when you SSK) you will not have a twisted stich.
    I do like the process of the join.
    Thank you for sharing.

    I'm curious to know how this looks with stockinette and what it's like on the inside (e.g., is it smooth enough for a sock toe?), so I guess I'll have to make a swatch and give it a go. Nice tutorial. The other advantage of this method is that you don't need that long tail that you do for kitchener and which I sometimes haven't made quite long enough. This is interesting.

  • @Knitfreedom
    @Knitfreedom  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Rozikess Sure, anything at all, actually, that calls for Kitchener stitch. It looks different, though, so make sure you want the different look first. :)

    This is a nice alternative to Kitchener stitch. Thank you for sharing. But I think it would have been nice to also see the inside of the sample. Is the seam on inside, resemble a graft seam, is it a raised seam or smooth and unnoticeable one? Please do not answer if you have not done this finish before and/or not the creator of the video.

      I was wondering the same thing. Would you end up with a lumpy toe on a sock?

    • @sarawilkinson6766
      @sarawilkinson6766 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its slightly raised on the outer side, smooth inside, and not noticable to me on a sock.

  • @Rozikess
    @Rozikess 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is so cool! You know I was wondering about using a crochet hook to bind off the toes on my top down socks once. But to see it actually work is awesome. How do you come up with this stuff?

    I live your videos! :) this is the second video about this alternative to kitchener I have watched. One questions: why did you slip the first two stitches purlwise onto the crochet hook, then do all the rest knitwise?

  • @Mamooshka220
    @Mamooshka220 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    OMG! I'm in the process of knitting my first sock top down. At the foot now. The idea of Kitchener stitch is!kinda daunting... Would this work for the toe of the sock? Would I have to turn it inside out??

    I do have one question. Are you also doing this bind off on the wrong side inside out or the right side with your work showing. I'm using this for all of my cuff down socks from now on!

    • @Knitfreedom
      @Knitfreedom  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, thank you so much! Turn your socks inside out so that the wrong side is facing you 👍🏼💪🏼🧦🧶

  • @Rozikess
    @Rozikess 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LiatMGat, yes that is definitely cool! So can it be used on any cuff down sock pattern? I'm going to say yes. But I could be wrong .

  • @carolr4871
    @carolr4871 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was there any particular reason you slipped the first st. from each needle purlwise but slipped all the other sts. knitwise? Does it matter which way you do it?

  • @Monscent
    @Monscent 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I searched for kitchener - needle and got here... Maybe you will get this, maybe you wont. But if you do, you can appreciate that what I was looking for was a bit different than this :D

    • @melvinbeli1
      @melvinbeli1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering the same for a mitten top. I imagine it would look like an edging trim. I don't think it would be lumpy inside as someone wondered but I don't know, just hope. :)

      Hi Elizabeth, Great question! This can be used as an alternative to the Kitchener stitch. So, it would be good for sock toes, mitten tops, or any place you need to sew a seam.
