Some kids really don't have a choice. I grew up in the projects but thankfully I avoided gangs due to my mom putting me in a slew of after school programs so I didn't have time e to explore the "hood". The kids that didn't have sound parents would get beat up damn near everyday until they realized they needed protection calling the cops would get you smoked so joining a group of people that disguised themselves as their brothers was the only option. You don't understand the gang life at that age and as soon as you do and want out you'll end up dead or in the same situation again. It's rough growing up in these environments.
