My uncle has the full 107 issue set. He bought them in 1987 for 50 cents a piece which came to $53.50. His friend said star wars was dead and he was nuts. Still has them all.

"Dead." LOL, the sheer level of insurmountable irony.

I brought the original Star wars Weekly over here in the UK. I still have them including the original X-wing and Tie Fighter cardboard models from issues #1 and #2.

My brother and I had a few drawers full of comics from the late 70's - early 80's, including Star Wars #1, minus the cover (which was probably hung on a wall in our bedroom).
I left for the US Army in '88, my brother to college a few years later....
Home on leave years later, and I ask about the drawer full of comics.
Gone in the garbage, my mum says.
    Dammit.

Had a bunch of these as a kid. They helped me thru the 3 year gap between Empire and Jedi. # 52, 63. & 81 are my favorites. Found some old issue last year in local antique store. Good times.

With rare exception, the post-Empire/pre-Jedi books were the best.

    Great montage!! Well done, sir!
I loved collecting these as a kid.
JunkMan, remember the giant sized comics adaptations they used to make back then? Marvel gave that treatment to Star Wars, the Battlestar Galactica pilot, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The first six movie issues of Star Wars came in a few different formats.... the six issue standard size, a two-part giant size, a giant size that told it all in one book, and a novel-sized black and white version (which was the version I had)...that got me through many bad days.
I remember I had the giant sized adaptation of Empire Strikes Back as well. If I recall correctly, Yoda was drawn two different ways between the giant-sized one-shot, and the multi-part standard comic.
Ahhh...the good ol' days. May the Force Be With You and Yours, JunkMan! 🤘🤘

The Butch Guice era of Star Wars comics were always my fave!!! Loved the water planet arc. I think the Han Solo arc (issues 7-10) was cannibalized for the “Bounty Hunters” episode of The Clone Wars, where they teach the locals to defend themselves from Hondo and his pirate bunch-or the episode of “The Mandolorian”, ‘Sanctuary’, where they pretty much do the same thing! Loved those comics. Don Ki-Ho-Tay (I hope I’m spelling it right) might be the most ridiculous character in any comic from the 70s....

Got them as a kid when they first hit the shelves only missing 2 of the original issues. Bought them at my local convenience store at first then convinced my mom to let me get a subscription and filled out the form in one of the comic books then instead of the constant checking at the convenience store it was waiting for the next issue to arrive by mail. If anyone remember this was when Star Wars and comic collecting was a total geek thing to collect .All the others had X-Men and stuff. At least I had the presents of mind to bag them . they sit in my collector room in a huge binder now My daughter read them all and treated them very well . that was over 10 years ago might have to have a look at them soon my self for old times sake.

The artwork on some of the early comic covers (muscle-bound Luke with the face of Conan the Barbarian) must have influenced whoever was in charge of the mid-90s Hasbro Power of the Force Star Wars action figures.
I bought a lot of them - just never understood why all of the figures had to have such exaggerated muscles.

Y'know. Don't quote me on it. But didn't they adapt these in to movies, in like the 80s? Looking all these issues over. I'm struck by how risqué the female characters are dressed. Even Leia's attire is decidedly figure hugging. But then I think about what they put Leia in in Jedi. And the comics fashions sense seems kinda tame really lol

    Good job!
I don't get how hard it's for Disney to use the material they had with the original Marvel to flesh out Episodes 7 - 9. No one this generation have seen it and us in the old folks home haven't seen them in years. Some of those stinkers were even MORE SJW than anything the Kennedys could come up with. Plus Georgie was okay with these. Okay Disney, your Rey and Kyle show were okay but if you want to preach your politics plus keep the old fans, rework some of these comics stories and everyone might be happier. I mean you could have said Star Wars Land was from the old Marvel Comics and NO ONE would have questioned you. But whatever Disney.

In my head Canon there is in fact several parallel universes in the Star Wars Multiverse.
Thus the Marvel Star Wars comics of the 1970s-1980s are still Canon, as is the (so called) 'Canon' stuff and the (so called) 'Legends' stuff.
Sadly, in order to make this all equal, that means that the Disney films and Jar Jar are also Canon, and that Greedo AND Han Solo shot first, depending on which version of the Star Wars Universe that you are watching/reading/playing/listening to or whatever, because that way there's no arguments.
We won't be getting a 'Dimensional Merge' though, even if the Police at may have started wearing white body armour and asking us to 'move along'...
