That’s is awesome if that is your goal go for it!!! 22G is used as a quick IV access that is short term use because it is a smaller bore so not much to infuse. It’s not a preferred gauge as opposed to a 20G you have more options to infuse at a faster rate as the iv will be able to handle more volume because the bore is a bigger size. Hope this helps! Have you started taking your classes for paramedics?
can a 20 gauge be used during labor and delivery?? i recently had one not to long ago for fluids and it wasn’t as bad and i was thinking this is the one they use during labor. I give birth in less than 2 months and hoping i get a 20 gauge 😭
What size IV would you recommend for oral surgery anaesthesia and dental Intravenous sedation on the office setting? I prefer 20 for most, 18 if it's a long, bloody procedure (e.g. multiple implant cases). A lot of other people go smaller for this same purpose. What are your thoughts, Christina?
@@ianshelton6662 yes I’ve seen that before starting the IV, lidocaine is given to the site to numb the area. Most commonly done in pre op anesthesia. Good stuff!
Such an awesome way to remember IV Gauge sizes! I don’t think I will ever forget them now 🙏🏽

Hi! Great questions
18G is for surgical patients or trauma patient that may require a lot of blood to be administered.
Thankyou

Hi Ian! I like your preference 100% agree with your rationale
@@caringcasa Whenever I use a catheter 20 gauge or larger, I give intradermal lidocaine to numb the IV site.
