That's great and a nice sounding mix and match set up, that AKAI reminds me of my Dad's old 'Sony' reeal to reel tape deck back in the 70s. Your AGFA reel unboxing took me back in time there, I thought I was back in 1971 for a minute! Thought about getting a reel to reel player, but I haven't got the space now. But I've got plenty of cassette tapes, cassette decks and record player.

First, I've been having fun watching and enjoying your adventures in vintage audio equipment restoration and repair. I really like your attitude and have to say your "comfort zone" seems to be way larger than my own as I've watched you fix things and mention having to get out of it. I've sat here cringing and wanting to put my hands over my eyes and say, "Noo... don't do that, how do you know it's ok to take that apart?!" Not because I know what I'm doing or what you're trying to do but rather because at times I've had no clue whatsoever and I tend to lean towards trying to research all I can and know as much as I can before taking things apart. It's been refreshing seeing you just get in there and do it and then asking for help. Second, you're not helping my problem with GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). I love vintage audio gear but also vintage computer gear and I'm an electronics nut. Unfortunately, this is a very bad thing as my favorite things seem very collectible or just plain expensive because they're electronics equipment. So, I hope you feel good about yourself making me jealous of your reel to reel deck. I spent a large portion of various nights watching your restoration videos on your Akai while searching for my own on eBay. If only I had a friend who didn't need an extra reel to reel! Finally, I've seen it in a few of your videos and being completely ignorant I have to ask. What is that electronic brazier and the stuff you put into it? I am familiar with incense on those wooden sticks that you light, and my mother had used various foul-smelling (incense? stuff? not sure...) things with a piece of coal in some sort of thingamajig that made the whole house smell but it wasn't a delightful scent, so I couldn't tell you what that was. I am curious what yours is and what is its purpose. Oh, and the beverage that you are sometimes seen drinking in the interesting glass cups, is that tea? What kind if so, or what is it, if not? Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this if you did. If you could respond that'd be great but if you don't have time I certainly understand. At any rate, thank you for sharing all this content with us, I'm only saddened that you've been putting this great content up for some time now and I only just the other day saw it recommended to me. So far everything you've put up is interesting and now I have to find time to watch. :) Take it easy, and have a good weekend.
Hello, About me knowing whether it's okay to take something apart or not, errm.. well I guess I dont know if it's okay which is what gives me that push to do it haha, well a part of me knows what i'm about to do, but the other part is cautious, though a third part of me is curious also (I have lots of parts to me it seems :oP ) I think I rarely research, i'm very visual minded and I dont get along with theory too well and only understand something when seeing how it works. Hahah you've got to have a reel to reel deck, i'm sorry I do apologise for not helping you with your GAS but, i'm about to make it worse, they are beauties :o) hahah I apologize! Aah yes the electronic copper thing is an incense burner and I put Arabian incense in called Bakhour, no i'm not too keen on the sticks which you can get, they make the atmosphere a little too dry and smokey for me. But this is quite pleasant and sweet smelling and i'm very picky about incense. The purpose is just to make the room smell nice. The thingamajig that made the house smell a little odd might have actually been frankincense. Also you got to get the temp just right, if you overheat them they can smell nasty. Yes i'm always drinking tea in a few of my videos, it's Arabic style, basically loose green tea with fresh peppermint leaves and a little honey, yumm delicious :o) thanks for the long thought out comment! I thought i'd take time out to write and finally got around to replying to you properly :o)
I am just impressed how well built that Akai is. And a NEW un-opened tape reel! oh that must have been painful to bust that open. But,it's a good cause!
Great setup. I've the same cassette deck in my JVC collection. Super ANRS really works best on average quality Type II tapes where higher frequencies sound cleaner. Personally I don't bother with Dolby or ANRS because the SA heads on the JVC are so good on TDKSA tapes the sound is super clean. All machines are aligned slightly different so music recorded on one machine will sound slightly different on another. Another reason for not using Dolby or ANRS when you have an excellent deck like your JVC.
Excellent video ,I wanted to simply check cassette deck set up on my HH Scott equipment which I have not had connected for years but I found your video so infectious so I looked at the whole video.Great also to see a lady with your competence! But please remember to handle your vinyl without touching the playing surface as I believe your video showed.Anyway, good luck and keep the faith!
You should clip those speaker wires to a length that will allow you get some of the insulation inside the the spring clip. That is if the wire is not too thick to do that. That's the way I do it to help against causing a short. Congrats on another nice video. The tape deck is really nice.
Hello! Very good video, I liked it a lot. But, I have some observations: First: The cables leaving the amplifier to the speakers, you can solder them with tin and that way they are more detailed and do not run the risk of damage to the connector. Second: To avoid such a current drawback in the reel to reel machine, try plugging it into a current stabilizer or try to get something to discharge to ground. But anyway, you have an excellent sound system. The truth is that it is enviable ha ha Thanks for sharing
Hello and thanks! actually this is an old video, but i'm due for another hi-fi setup video pretty soon, since my setup has changed and there are new editions. I will bear in mind the tips, thanks for those. :o)
My experience with noise reductions have been mixed. I used to love Dolby B because, even if you didn't play it back with Dolby on, it still sounded ok, with more treble. I wasn't a big fan of Dolby C but instead went the dbx route. Now dbx is quite an aggressive NR and it definitely needs to be played back with dbx NR, but unlike Dolby B or C or S, there is no real cal level that needs to be set up, like for the Dolbys. A level match for proper playback volumes is all that's needed, and of course, the deck should be calibrated for flat response. I have more recently delved into 2 other noise reduction systems that came out in the 1980's. Those are the Sanyo Super D and the Telefunken High Com II, adopted by Nakamichi. Both of these are as aggressive as dbx but attack the problem in their own special ways. Noise reduction for tape systems has been a hobby/ passion for me ever since Dolby came out back in 1969. My first upper end cassette deck was a Harman Kardon CAD-4. That deck was OEM'd by Nakamichi and sold to Harman Kardon. It could only record on type 1 tapes and had no Dolby.... BUT... Teac and Advent made available outboard NR units, so I bought a Teac AN-50 Dolby B adapter, and my li'l CAD-4 could make Dolby tapes. The next year I turned 18 and I saved up to get an Advent 201, one of the first decks with built in Dolby and the ability to record on type 2 tapes. The Advent 201 sold for 280.00 US in 1971! Gosh I'm long winded.!
@@MsMadLemon Nope. But you know how Apple is. A pack of 4 double A batteries where you can get at the Dollar Store for cheap. Where as with Apple would charge you a arm, and a leg for. And you must buy their 350.00.dollar Warranty along with it. 😅
If you can, space the speakers a little further apart, for a better stereo effect. Also, find a way to create more spacing between amp and turntable, as heat from amp may eventually damage the the turntable.
Maybe you need to consider the possibility that these "vintage users" sometimes also do not have a budget that can go beyond these brands and what they have, rather than assuming that they just go for appearance. I enjoy this amplifier and the sound of it, better than any ipod or modern tat which has a stupid high price. I may not have a system superior to yours, and yours clearly is superior than mine by what you describe, just as you have tried to prove to Alan. However nothing takes away my right to enjoy the setup which my budget allows.
How nice, Fleetwood Mac on the old Philips tape. Just found out your channel yesterday but i really feel like getting myself a regular tapedeck again.... (but also a Philips DCC, want it already for a long time)
LOL I still have that record! Mecano. When I went to Mexico City in the 80's my cousins Arlette and Lisette kept playing it so I bought it at a record store before I went back home.
Ha, I remember having similar space issues. Also having an amp with only one tape io. Actually there are tapedeckswitches which you can use to connect two tapedecks and still have the ability to dub from tapedeck to tapedeck. Just Google Vogel VTS 221. That's the GX-265D transformer buzzing btw. A lot of tapedecks have this phenomenon.
Thanks for the tape deck switch recommendation, I may consider that instead as I cannot dub from the reel to reel deck to cassette. The buzzing happens when the power is off (transformer off) but it's still plugged into the wall. It's a strange tingling sensation on the fingertips.
Must be leakage current from the mains to the chassis. Is the chassis grounded? If not, you should ground it somehow. Try putting an AC voltmeter between the chassis and a known good ground and see if you measure any voltage. Nice setup, good taste in everything! Bravo!
It's grounded yes but earthed no, i've noticed the same buzzing in certain appliances, you feel a buzzy tingle from them only when you move your fingers around the surface, when they're plugged in but not switched on. I will try to measure the voltage next time. And thank you!
You need a nice audio rack to help keep your gear organized and sound better. Good ones are hundreds of dollars. But AudioAdvisor has home brand products that cost a lot less.
This is an old video and my setup is completely different now, so is my room, however, there will be a new Hi-fi setup video upcoming after a couple of restorations are done with nice new (well...vintage new) additions. :o) And..I really like that song
Thank you! Haha thats because i'm just very animated and nuts lol ...But if you have the passion, and yous eem to,, it will show through in your own unique way, it's actually true inner passion (Just like your Amiga smile lol) that makes good videos (or good anything)... not that many seem to realise this :o)
Ha ok, I will give it a shot. My interests are Amiga2600, C54, Amiga, vintage audio, LP records, tubes, 70's 80's music, Roleplaying games like D&D, SciFi. That means I Have many topics to use. Right now I am watching youTube vids on which is the best windows Video Editing software to use for TH-cam. What do you use? Adobe Premier is too much money as a per month basis.
Doesn't the simple line out RCA splitter make the signal weaker, even if not recording on both sources? On my original Apple //c I used a simple splitter like that to split the composite out between the //c monochrome 9-inch screen and a 13-inch color TV. Even when the TV was powered off, the signal was weak and the mono screen was dim. I built a little switcher from Radio Shack parts and that did the trick. I love your videos (which I only just discovered, somehow), btw.
Yes it does, though the odd thing, only when you switch the second deck on it goes quiet a little, I mean it's still not so bad, you can record on both at the same time just splitting it but I think it would be better having a separate switchbox.. I'm actually due another updated hi-fi setup video. Thanks Blake! :o)
The tea is an Arabic style mint tea, basically loose green tea, sometimes mixed with a little loose Turkish black tea, a spoon of honey and yes fresh mint leaves :o) I've never heard of Dragon well!
Interesting. I do enjoy a variety of teas, Dragon Well being perhaps the nicest green I drink regularly. Your prep of the tea and drinking it throughout and overall setting of your dwelling adds a richness to the videos. Again, very impressed. I understand re: location. And, as it happens, my family and I visited the land in which you dwell, last month. I hadn't been in about 10 years. I'm in the DC area in the U.S. (Of late, not such a lovely place to be...) Cheers.
Have you ever tried recording audio using a VHS HiFi deck? I made some recordings back in the mid 1990s using a Panny with some Scotch 240. The recorded sound was indistinguishable from the CD originals.
I saw a reel to reel tape unit at the flea market on Sunday but it just didn't have the right sort of look with a lack of metal and too much fake wood effect plastic so I passed it up. Now if it was an 8-track recorder...........lol
hello maddie i notice your speakers wire is heavy gauge i have the same on my one receiver i clip a little off the end and solder the ends that go into the rec and it worked great and i love your video s
Super ANRS is compatible with Dolby B NR (which itself is similar to "regular" ANRS). Its noise reduction characteristics are similar to that of Dolby B. The "super" part is like a kind of headroom extension, sort of like Dolby HX Pro, that gives between +6dB and +12dB expanded dynamic range at +0VU and above. Dolby C has a more aggressive noise reduction, which on vinyl can have good results. I find it a bit too aggressive for my taste though, as quieter passages can sound almost a bit "muted". The normal noise floor level of vinyl is similar to that of tape hiss with Dolby B, so Dolby C probably won't help much. All in all, it's up to your taste. Also, your RCA splitter set up may cause a slight drop in recording volume depending on any difference in impedance between the cassette deck and the r2r, so some sort of switch box may be a better solution. As for the static electricity, I've experienced that in a building with old wiring with no earth connection. Some stray voltage was leaking back to the metal frame. I solved the problem by hammering an earth rod into the ground, and connecting a wire from that to a screw in the back of the amp (chassis). If your building doesn't have an earth connection, this may do the trick.
I had a feeling there were similarities. I like using Dolby C the best personally though I have to bump the recording level up a touch higher than normal. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
i own this tep deck of your long back its worth holding it , regarding the noise reduction system - anrs only u can find in jvc - dolby b is the best or mpx filter too is good
Well because of youre last vid of the Akai reel to reel i picked up a Concord MK 8 reel to reel with a 8 Track player. It works great... But if it breaks it will go to the Pros to get fixed.
I don't blame you for taking it to the pros, as you said these things can be a pain to fix and get going. I took a big risk with mine. However these things are built well, so let's hope you never need a Pro!
Hi, nice setup. I use marzmntz gear to, or atleast my cassette decks, are, anyway to the point! like you I hate that my speaker wires are not good at the amp end, as simply a wire. twisting them helps, but better idea again is to tin them, they become solid and much easier to connect, good puck,
Record at the fastest speed of your reel to reel tape machine! Second check to see what record levels should be used with that tape for your machine. Over and under saturated recordings suck! Great work! I would be so afraid to do what you do! I would never get it all back together again!
hi, I have got SONY TC-WE435 - Hi-Fi tape deck model cassette deck. Devices only come online. Is it possible to connect a direct speaker? Or should I go for the amplitier?
Super ANRS brings to ANRS which is compatible to Dolby B NR the following. The "Super" part is a dynamic range expansion system. Super ANRS expands dynamic range of +6Db measured at 0VU and +12 DB measured a +5VU and does this at 10Khz. Its noise reduction quality is that of Dolby B/ ANRS which is S/N ratio improvement of 5db at Khz and 10db at 5Khz and higher. But it, being the Super part of ANRS offers the user this much expansion in dynamic range headroom as noted above. Preference would be personal. Dolby C offers more s/n ratio improvement. Super ANRS in terms of hiss removal will be similar to the milder Dolby B which many prefer. Recording vinyl one would not really need much more than Dolby B as the s/n ratio of vinyl is typically between 65-75 db at best. The faint level of hiss remaining can be seen as a way of smoothing out the background noise of most vinyl. Dolby C will bring s/n ratio of tape much closer to that s/n ratio of CD's but again many prefer the residual hiss of Dolby B even when recording digital sources. It's all a personal preference.
feed back on the front ? check your earth not sure but that should not do that ,most retro stuff needs that earth wire in .it was only last week i borrowed a 20 year old deck and had feed back , put the earth wire in, it stopped , happy listening
Yes indeed most retro amps, decks etc i've come across aren't earthed which puzzles me, however I sorted out the issue by switching the mains wires around, once I did that the buzzing etc disappeared.
...With cassettes & vinyl! I have replaced the broken stylus of an old 90’s Sony turntable and bought a secondhand Yamaha cassette deck at the local thrift store!

Hi Rob, yes the brand Turntable is indeed a Technics SL1200 That is fantastic that you managed to fix your reel to reels yay! now you can have lots of fun recording! I think I am obsessed with recording haha... Thanks, yes this is actually my older setup... the newer one is my new room which I think you have seen: th-cam.com/video/Mx3zifdDe5w/w-d-xo.html
Yes Maddie I am already having fun making recordings :-) That Technics is a great turntable I also have the same model. I'll check out the video to see if I have seen it. Have a great day.

@@namimiable your the idiot ! I said she would make a good wife because she likes music and really nice vintage systems like all of us do my,My wife doesn’t care about this sort of thing. sorry if you didn’t like my comment . move on!! Piece of shit!!
hello! I really enjoyed this video! very interesting, thank you! This might be an irrelevant question nowadays, and even though I am not a professional, I care about sound quality a lot and I still would like to save my memories in some kind of physical format, in a way that is practical for the equipment I do have (mid 70s cassette deck and portable cassette recorder, along with an audio y-cable and a laptop). My question is, if my source is some audio from a digital recording or a compressed mp3 file (because it's either some live acoustic version or it's just someone that's unsigned to a label), is it better or worse to record on a type 2 cassette instead of type 1? I'm working from digital to analogue, so I hope to keep as much warmth as possible, which you don't get from the studio or radio edited versions. It may sound like overkill, but some music is only available online, and usually already compressed, so I'd like to get the best recording I can. And what about CD's, would type 1 or 2 be better? thanks for your help.
Hey! Actually type 2 is most of the time better than type 1 (unless you’re comparing a cheap type ii cassette to a decent quality type 1 .. but lets not complicate things lol) I’d say go with type 2 and of course make sure your deck is selected as type 2 when you record. The same for CDs ..Type 2 always.. With Type 1, unless you get decent quality type 1 tapes, they’re mostly just ok, and probably best for casual recordings or radio/speech recordings. BTW, 'Vintage Hi-Fi setup 2017' will be uploaded this Friday, Just updated my Hi-Fi setup :o)
MsMadLemon Thank you so much!! I just discovered your channel a few days ago, but I am already subscribed and I hope to see more from you! As just a casual music listener, with my millennial ears, I have grown up in that awkward phase between analog and digital media, and I still enjoy my physical formats. It might just be nostalgia based preference, but one thing is definitely for sure, there is a difference between them! I feel like everything today, from photography, to cinema, and music is a little too overdone digitally. I enjoy digital, but everything should be presented with intention. For instance, if a movie was shot to be played on cinema film, we as the audience should see the actual film, instead of a digital conversion. That's my preference at least, but digital does have it's advantages too. it's convenient and small to take with you anywhere.
I see what you're getting at, yes digital has it's advantages, its practical and convenient etc. But it feels as if analogue has a warm essence which suits creativity very well. Though unfortunately everything in this world is to do with money and digital helps keep costs down, however it's getting to the stage where it's convenience and practicality is making it be disposable. I'm not anti digital by no means, I like both worlds but I really enjoy using physical media again and the way I see it, if i'ts put to use, if it's being enjoyed, then it's not pointless or irrelevant what so ever. Life is more than practicality right? We only have one :o)
Ma'am can you help me in connecting my PC/Mobile phone via aux cable to my pioneer DC Z83 amplifier, what wires/cables are needed etc.. Please help me Thank you.
I just set up my vintage audio equipment again recently from scratch. With more additions and changes.

thanks for the long thought out comment! I thought i'd take time out to write and finally got around to replying to you properly :o)
Good job. I live vintage components
I am just impressed how well built that Akai is. And a NEW un-opened tape reel! oh that must have been painful to bust that open. But,it's a good cause!
Yes! it felt so wrong opening that new reel :o)
Another reason for not using Dolby or ANRS when you have an excellent deck like your JVC.
i really like listening to you talk, really relaxing.
Thank you.
the pleasure is all mine.
Creepy
But, I have some observations:
First: The cables leaving the amplifier to the speakers, you can solder them with tin and that way they are more detailed and do not run the risk of damage to the connector.
Second: To avoid such a current drawback in the reel to reel machine, try plugging it into a current stabilizer or try to get something to discharge to ground.
But anyway, you have an excellent sound system. The truth is that it is enviable ha ha
Thanks for sharing
Those Vu meters are mesmerizing!
Those Wharfsdale look like quality. Look like giant versions of my POLK 5.1 tweeters.
I'm very happy with them so far!
I can't believe you have the same Belkin Y adapter audio cable. I paid 90 bucks at The Apple Store for that Y adapter cable.
90 bucks? Please tell me you're kidding. You can't be serious, It's such a standard cable available anywhere.
@@MsMadLemon Nope. But you know how Apple is. A pack of 4 double A batteries where you can get at the Dollar Store for cheap. Where as with Apple would charge you a arm, and a leg for. And you must buy their 350.00.dollar Warranty along with it. 😅
I finally got my stereo set up and tuned, today:). I stumbled across your channel, good stuff here:)
If you can, space the speakers a little further apart, for a better stereo effect. Also, find a way to create more spacing between amp and turntable, as heat from amp may eventually damage the the turntable.
Yes especially amplifiers they need a lot of ventilation, it's best to have hi-fi separates on a rack.
jvc cassette players are top of the line, i have a similar system with turntable cass. and reel to reel. great video .
You and your music system are both mega cool!
Thank you! :o)

I have no interest in competing with anybody or to state any sort of superiority.
(but also a Philips DCC, want it already for a long time)
Headphones on, listening to your voice.....perfect
LOL I still have that record! Mecano. When I went to Mexico City in the 80's my cousins Arlette and Lisette kept playing it so I bought it at a record store before I went back home.
Sleeping Satellite. Probably my all time favourite song.
I also have in vinyl that Mecano album "Descanso Dominical" and from it "La fuerza del Destino" is my favorite song, I love it. Cheers from Uruguay.
'La fuerza del destino' is also my favourite one...Saludos!
+Ms Mad Lemon Ese vinilo es uno de los mejores de los chicos de Mecano. Saludos y buen video.
Loving that JVC tape deck.
We here in the US say "Grounded" for your "Earthed" I think.
Aha, I always assumed grounding means the common ground of the circuit, where as earthing is connecting to the mains earth.
You need a nice audio rack to help keep your gear organized and sound better. Good ones are hundreds of dollars. But AudioAdvisor has home brand products that cost a lot less.
"She promised you heaven...will you ever win? Rhainnnnaaaaa" :)
This is an old video and my setup is completely different now, so is my room, however,
there will be a new Hi-fi setup video upcoming after a couple of restorations are done with nice new (well...vintage new) additions. :o)
And..I really like that song
I'm looking forward to seeing them. You are inspiring me to make more youtube video's even thou I'm not as charming and fun to listen to as you lol
Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite. Great choice of song. One of the best tracks from 1992.
Can't wait. And, I gotta ask, what tea are you typically drinking? Mint? Dragon Well? Cheers.
The tea is an Arabic style mint tea, basically loose green tea, sometimes mixed with a little loose Turkish black tea, a spoon of honey and yes fresh mint leaves :o)
I've never heard of Dragon well!
No i've never done that, but I vaguely remember hearing about someone trying this, I can imagine it be excellent sound!
Good job and nice music system thanks brother l am Siri lankan
Brother?
Awesome!!! I like your audio system, I have mine too. Saludos from Honduras, Central America
Gracias Denis, y saludos! :o)
Ms Mad Lemon do you speak spanish? I suscribed to your channel to learn about my audio system.
Hello Todd...Actually that's a pretty good idea, to solder them, I didn't think of that! And thank you!
thanks I been looking for help I got a sony deck nikko amp and equailizer and dvd and been criying cause is pain in the %%%%%
Super ANRS is compatible with Dolby B NR (which itself is similar to "regular" ANRS).
Thanks for the detailed explanation!
i own this tep deck of your long back its worth holding it , regarding the noise reduction system - anrs only u can find in jvc - dolby b is the best or mpx filter too is good
Very nice, very pleasant viewing and listening. Thank you for sharing.
I love your videos. They're like an odd mix of interesting tech and asmr. Either way it works for me lol
lol, yes I do some of them with ASMR in mind, i'm glad you enjoy.

Hi, nice setup. I use marzmntz gear to, or atleast my cassette decks, are,
anyway to the point! like you I hate that my speaker wires are not good at the amp end, as simply a wire.
twisting them helps, but better idea again is to tin them, they become solid and much easier to connect,
good puck,
Your setup is amazing! I like all your stuff
Thank you!
technics su7 , class a amp with super bass and large vu meter is the best matching amp for ur jvc tape deck
You cannot connect speakers directly to standalone cassette decks because they only have line outputs. You'll always need an amplifier.
@@MsMadLemon Thanks for ur update
@@MsMadLemon Thanks , So we connect from line output to amplifier line input ? Rca is different from line input/ output? port?
@@sreejithnair5743 connect the tapedeck line output to the amifier tape input (never to "phono" because that's for record players only)
MsMadLemon You seem like a very humble soul, Great Job! Much Love out of Albuquerque New Mexico.

Thank you for the demonstration!
good video. Does the audio signal go trough the transformers? On tape monitor out
OMG “LA FUERZA DEL DESTINO” (power of fate) by MECANO ❤️, love your hi-fi setup but you really need the cabinet
That's some cute vacuum cleaner
what do you do for air flow when soldering. you have a fan to blow the fumes away? a smoke absorber? mask?
I use a fan that gently blows the fumes away.
Que padre que escuchas a Mecano. Siempre busco vinilo de los 80s en español pero muy dificil en Chicago. Que chingon tu setup
love your videos .i can tell your a music lover
Yes, music plays a big part in my life :o)
How nice a woman like you to deal with the hifi system continue to the videos
Super ANRS brings to ANRS which is compatible to Dolby B NR the following.
The "Super" part is a dynamic range expansion system. Super ANRS
expands dynamic range of +6Db measured at 0VU and +12 DB measured a
+5VU and does this at 10Khz. Its noise reduction quality is that of
Dolby B/ ANRS which is S/N ratio improvement of 5db at Khz and 10db at
5Khz and higher. But it, being the Super part of ANRS offers the user
this much expansion in dynamic range headroom as noted above.
Preference would be personal. Dolby C offers more s/n ratio improvement.
Super ANRS in terms of hiss removal will be similar to the milder Dolby
B which many prefer. Recording vinyl one would not really need much
more than Dolby B as the s/n ratio of vinyl is typically between 65-75
db at best. The faint level of hiss remaining can be seen as a way of
smoothing out the background noise of most vinyl. Dolby C will bring s/n
ratio of tape much closer to that s/n ratio of CD's but again many
prefer the residual hiss of Dolby B even when recording digital sources.
It's all a personal preference.
Thank you for the in depth explanation!
just one thing you have your system close to the radiator the heat from the radiator together with the hi-fi's own heat will affect your system
feed back on the front ? check your earth not sure but that should not do that ,most retro stuff needs that earth wire in .it was only last week i borrowed a 20 year old deck and had feed back , put the earth wire in, it stopped , happy listening
Yes indeed most retro amps, decks etc i've come across aren't earthed which puzzles me, however I sorted out the issue by switching the mains wires around, once I did that the buzzing etc disappeared.
just fell in love
...With cassettes & vinyl! I have replaced the broken stylus of an old 90’s Sony turntable and bought a secondhand Yamaha cassette deck at the local thrift store!

Hey! Actually type 2 is most of the time better than type 1 (unless you’re comparing a cheap type ii cassette to a decent quality type 1 .. but lets not complicate things lol)
I’d say go with type 2 and of course make sure your deck is selected as type 2 when you record.
The new setup :o) th-cam.com/video/-hb2MFsLsng/w-d-xo.html
Is there a specific cable to connect the cassette player to the amplifier?
There's two ways, you can use a 5-pin DIN to 5pin DIN cable, if your amp and tape deck have Play/Record DIN Ports... or you can just use RCA Cables.
