Some fo the smaller places in Mexico (and Guatemala) they will throw the nets out like that on purpose, they figure if they can catch you damaging their nets they can get some cash out of you...shitty deal for sure.

Why didn't you drop the main once things went sideways? Take all the pressure off the main, then deal with the rogue sail.
