This classic song has everything. Great singing, humor, drama, theatre, sex and baseball. RIP Meat Loaf your music gave me so much enjoyment from my late teens until today and will always bring the world musical pleasure!
That’s a very lovely take on the song’s’ lyrics to mourn his death. I was going to say something like “God finally answered Meat Loaf’s prayer because now it’s the end of time for him,” but I realized that it was cheesy. I like yours much better!
This evening, Meat Loaf is being played loud, very loud, all night long in our house. It is our way of paying tribute to the great Meat Loaf who was one of the very best, and we won't forget him.
Third best selling of all time right behind Thriller and Back In Black. Produced by the legendary Todd Rundgren and written by Jim Steinman two of the best in the business.
Believe it or not, I heard this album for the first time on an 8 track tape in around 1992 or so. When it was through playing, my buddy and I didn't know what we had just heard. It was everything you said and more.
I had the "Bat Out of Hell" album on 8-track right after it came out! Still got the 8-track tape......but no 8-track player. Used to listen to that "brand new" tape while cruising in my "brand new" 1981 Camaro.
Such a fantastic song that takes me back to my youth... a true lyrical masterpiece. "Ain't no doubt about it we were doubly blessed, we were barely 17 and we were barely dressed"... what a line! One of my top 10 favorite pieces of music. RIP Meat Loaf...

I’ll never break my promise or forget my vow but God only knows what I can do right now. ““I’m praying for the end of time so that I can end my time with you” “It was long ago and it was far away and it was so much better than it is today” An ode to youthful passion. This was shown on TV here in the UK back in the late 70's or early 80's. I thought the music and composition was excellent, but the actual performance was absolutely superb, it blew me away then, and still did just now. The way they interacted and were singing different lyrics to each other was unbelievable.
The lady is Karla DeVito. She works well with Meatloaf in this vid. Vocals on the album are Ellen Foley, but Karla was used for the music video and for live performances. IMO she is at least half the appeal of this vid.
I watched this video just 3 nights ago and marveled at the choreography and the intensity. Amazing Performance! We are all getting older and losing our icons one by one. God Bless Meatloaf!
Would of been great to see Meat and Freddie do a duo song together, two of the very best front men, both have the audience eating out the palm of they hand. Both truly amazing artists.
My dad was in my car and heard this come on and said he was glad kids still listen to stuff like this. 60s-80s rock truly is timeless and will always be liked
STILL LISTENING AT ALMOST 77 YEARS OLD. Meatloaf deserved more fame and recognition than he achieved. The lyrics are really singular and his on stage acting is sheer brilliance. UNIQUE
Meatloaf was black balled by the music industry but he proved them wrong and sold millions of records. If I had any objections to his recordings it is they are a little too long, but they are like an opera. I didn't like the baseball commentary as it had no meaning for this recording. BTW-I'm over 77.
Im 72 and still love this song. I basically lived this song in the 60s. When this song came out around 1977 I just laughed to myself thinking how in the hell did they get my teenage bio. My dash board light was courtesy of Sweet Hot Rod 41 Ford Coupe. 😂
Just watched, 05/01/24. I'm 61. Had to find it because it was an earworm in my brain when I woke up this morning! I'm shocked that I still remember all of the words! People used to do duets to this song when I used to go out and sing karaoke! Such a fun song! RIP Meatloaf! We will love ya till the end of time!!!❤
This entire album was played by my dad at home and in the car so much that I had it memorized, even the baseball announcer. I'm crying because he brought so much fun to my family, dancing with my dad and my cousin, sitting around drinking a few beers when I was old enough. My dad passed in '95 and my dear cousin Oct 1, 2021.. Meat Loaf is an icon and always will be. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories and music! @@AllenKnutson According to TMZ it was complications due to Covid. But that last part of your statement is wrong. He wasn't anti-vaxxer as far we know - he was anti-quarantine, anti-mask, anti-controlling-government. The thing that folks don't seem to realize that catching Covid is 99.5% survivable. That 0.5% is due to people having serious background health issues. And Meat has some health issues - overweight and asthma to name a couple. The asthma caused him to cancel some shows a while back. I just don't think today's "musicians" could pull off this level of theatrics. Jack Black maybe but Mr. Loaf lived that life. That's just how he rolled!❤️❤️❤️🇺🇲
The absolute greatest music video ever produced. I have played it for most of my radio career and still so bloody good. 65 years of age and this music defines our generation, even in Australia.

My 18- year- old grandson was planning to marry his 17- year- old girlfriend as soon as she turned 18. I played this song for him. It’s July 2024, I‘m 44 and I have tears in my eyes watching some of videos of Meat Loaf I „only“ knew from his albums for the first time in my life. I saw him once life singing before a football game of Frankfurt Galaxy in Frankfurt/Germany. I was 26 and lifted up my shirt in front of a TV camera. I was drunk and excited and together with another wonderful woman. It was such a good time in my life. I‘m a mother of 2 kids now, sober since 14 years, have broken up many old bridges and don‘t want to go back - but hell, I miss those days. Thank you Michael for all the wonderful memories you bestowed us. We miss you.
I am 62, but when i listen this i am a teenager. It has such a huge impact on my life. RIP meatloaf , i am forever grateful for your songs and you. I still play the CD regularly. Thankyou Meatloaf
I'm 63. I remember making out in the back seat of my Pontiac LeMans that same year. The girl I was with wasn't ready to go all the way. No dramatic "STOP RIGHT THERE" though. She just braced her foot against the back seat to keep me from rolling on top of her. I took the hint, and backed off. 😂
You gotta love Jim Steinman...the most insane, ridiculous, operatic, melodramatic, over-the-top composer of the rock era. SO entertaining. This song has 4 movements, for crying out loud! God love ya, Jim. We'll miss you.
And it's not just this song, or even the album. EVERY SINGLE DAMN SONG Jim Steinman created was so far over the top it descended down the other side into Hell, then back up the other side to the top at the far side. It's kind of amazing how often he pulled that off.

Oh, Kiddo... you have NO idea how right you are! I honestly honestly feel like this song needs to be played at the beginning of every high school sex education class! *actually, those SHOULD be Middle School classes, and they need to be completely overhauled by professionals who truly understand adolescent behavior and psychology, from many areas of behavioral science, and practicing physicians & nurses. Anyone who has ever taken that class in the US "Educational" system from a public school should agree! I took it the year this amazing song was released, and sat in on my son's 21 years later. (EVERY parent should do the same, so they can help un-do the damage! Btw: when watching Meatloaf perform, did anyone else spend the entire time biting their nails... 9-1-1 pre-dialed... just waiting for [what seemed like] the inevitable coronary?
If you were a teenager back then, then this song tells a true freaking story!!! Loved being a teen then, wouldn't trade it for anything. Meatloaf rocked!!!
The best years of my life until I got married and had kids. Of course, some of my marriage years - I was praying for the end of time, but never gave up. 36 years now and six more years of dating. We've been together since 1981.
@toddfranklin it's 'you're'..and hell yes, we are indeed older (than you), and that's hardly an insult. The 70s/80s were awesome. We were engaged in real Life back then..and I don't mean virtually. Wouldn't trade those awesome years for the world!
The seventies and eighties changed old people forever. We still associate old people with frail, opera or old style music... the oldies of today grew up with some of the most rocking music ever made! They were probably far cooler than their kids or grandkids could ever hope to be.
Absolutely. Im a grandmother but for the duration of Paradise by the Dashboard Light it’s the 70s and I’m back to being 17/18/19 years of age! Was way cooler than the current generations!

So before our first time she brought up this song and said "hey you have to love me for the rest of your life"......and of course I said yes. We loved the Bat out of Hell cassette. I still have it. We have been married for 38 years now and I still love her so much. Thanks for the fun songs that were part of our growing up Meatloaf. RIP
This song was released in late October of 1978. 3 months later I turned 17 years old. I will never forget cruising in my car, loving this hit song and making out by the dashboard light at the age of 17. Which was indeed..."paradise." Thanks Jim, Meatloaf, Ellen Foley, the musicians and backup singers that contributed to this memorable classic.
The Album was released in 1977 & as you say the song was released later as a Single, depending on which Country. Same age here...had the time of my life as a young kid growing up then. Would gladly give up my left one to be that age again....but just one I mean hey, I would be a kid again...wink.

Before digital releases and digital platforms and people listened to the radio, if the song came on just before we got home, she'd sit in the car in the driveway until the song was over. She even requested this song when she got remarried (to whom is my awesome father now).

It doesn't take someone dying. I jammed with my (then) 2 year old to this song a few years ago.
Been listening for years!!!!
And to see him do it live back then was so great 🌟 what a party
Dude, I've been a Meat Loaf fan since I first heard TOTAB back in 1978, as a ten year old boy. Nobody "forgot" about him at all.

THIS comment deserves every thumbs up in the World.
Rest In Heaven, Meatloaf 🕯🤍
Listened to this in 1977 on eight track in my 70 Olds Cutlass. Saw paradise by the dash board lights with my girl at seventeen. Wish I could go back to those days, getting close to 65 now and still listening. RIP Meat
This classic song has everything. Great singing, humor, drama, theatre, sex and baseball. RIP Meat Loaf your music gave me so much enjoyment from my late teens until today and will always bring the world musical pleasure!
This is better than bat out of hell. Pure theatre. I found him oddly attractive at 15
No kidding. As classics go, it will always be tied for first.

That’s a very lovely take on the song’s’ lyrics to mourn his death. I was going to say something like “God finally answered Meat Loaf’s prayer because now it’s the end of time for him,” but I realized that it was cheesy. I like yours much better!

And it's not just this song, or even the album. EVERY SINGLE DAMN SONG Jim Steinman created was so far over the top it descended down the other side into Hell, then back up the other side to the top at the far side. It's kind of amazing how often he pulled that off.

I'm 66 years old grew up on 60s and 70s music the best!
I’m a 12 year old who has this music passed down from my 52 year old father and meatloaf will forever be alive throughout our bloodline
I remember being so excited whenever this song would come on the radio as a kid, I thought it was epic!! Rest in peace Meatloaf, you were awesome!!
It is epic.
Defines the term epic. Yes.
Rest in power Meat Loaf. You’ll be missed. Legend
He definitely will.
Can't believe he's gone...my dad took us to see him live when I was in 3rd grade...my first big live concert....Ill never ever forget it
who is meat loaf
RIP MEAT LOAF. I will miss you forever Michal Lee Aday❤😥
Well, he did spend his career 'praying for the end of time to hurry up and arrive'
I don’t think people really knew his greatness. He was so talented-not to mention one of the greatest vocals on stage. He could belt with the best of them. A truly great performer. He was born for the stage.
oh I did had to see the privilege of seeing him live twice also loved him in rocky Horry picture show Eddie brief performance but good
definitely born for the stage
He NEVER professed to be a rock star. He always stated that he was an actor first.
I had a meatloaf shirt when I turned 12,I'm 56 now. Where does time go?
He should be in the rock n roll Hall of Fame for this performance alone.
I remember hearing this song as a young child in the late 70s. Even at that age I knew this song was special, and I loved it. Still do!
RIP Meatloaf
The climax, pun intended, to this song is unreal. An incredibly crafted song, I love this album. RIPMeat, thank you 🙌
Jim Steinman....he's the brains behind all the production
@@michaelfrazia4569 you can have the best written song in the world, but you need the right artist to deliver it. Meat Loaf and Jim, match made in Heaven… pardon the pun lol. R.I.P. Jim R.I.P. Meat
@@martyflanthemjfan yep...agree 100 percent ..both guys nailed their part of the deal
6:58, I don’t know how many times I’ve rewound to that point, the build up, the flow of the lyrics, it’s one of the most powerful parts of the song!
Same!

Agreed!
We used to sing this part...
I love this song me and my boyfriend who passed away from liver cancer 6yrs ago used to love to sing this together. He really loved to rock and roll. I'm blessed to have this type of music 🎶 🎵 in my generation.
Man, this hurts. Loved Meat Loaf since the 70s. Always on my playlist. RIP. There will never be another one like you.
Agreed. I saw him 13 times live an experience like no any other. I am absolutely gutted. The music love of my life. I have dreaded this news my entire adult life.
My sister got me addicted to him I have tears in my eyes
@@axel-nf4bc So untimely.😥
This song in my books is the best he ever recorded. RIP big fella
I basically grew up to Meatloaf.
My mother used to sing in the car, dance in the kitchen, and crank this song everytime she heard it. Before digital releases and digital platforms and people listened to the radio, if the song came on just before we got home, she'd sit in the car in the driveway until the song was over.
She even requested this song when she got remarried (to whom is my awesome father now).
I grew up listening to him too. Thanks to my mom
Me too. My Mum and I have been singing along to Meatloaf since I was a kid, and we still sing his songs now. Such amazing music, and an amazing artist. ❤
Awesome! I love it!
In an farm field in Staynor Ontario is my moms old Plymouth Volare with this 8 track stuck in the player.
Love that. All of it. Thx for sharing. I can TOTALLY relate to sitting in the driveway until it finished.
I actually had a great conversation with him. So glad that I knew Ellen Colly's name. A time in my life I've never forgotten ❤
Foley. Ellen Foley. 😉
@@mikeprevost8650Except the lady in the video is not Ellen, it’s Karla Devito, Robby Benson’s wife.
"So now I'm praying for the end of time, to hurry up and arrive"
Simply great line!
40 Years later, and it still hasn't happend. Poor Guy lmao
RIP Meatloaf! This song will always be an "anthem" for an entire
generation!! Long live the 70's! Saw this tremendously talented
rock opera singer in 1977 "live" in Toronto, Canada!! Meatloaf,
you gave us your ALL, and THEN SOME!! Your soulful music
will never be forgotten --LONG LIVE ROCK 'n ROLL!!
May the 70's live on!!!
And the 80's. And the 90's. Perfect song
It will be an anthem for all the children raised on this song too. I was born in the 90s and this is hands down my favourite song by my favourite singer.
I saw him in Toronto at that concert too. He was one of two opening acts for ELO. A fantastic singer with such a powerful voice and great energy. His death is a great loss
Oh my gosh Steve! You're so lucky! I really wish I could've gotten a chance to see Meat Loaf. What was your favorite song he sang when you saw him?
