You honestly don't get irritated by the close up blurred filming of text? Never reading up on a destination? Massively overpaying for hotels, flights, food and railway tickets? Never talking to anyone? Never using any of the local languages? And usually talking about some nonsense breakfast incident regarding ketchup in Mexico 3 years ago or how some lady lost her luggage on a bus in India 25 years ago as he's walking through a city filled with history and interesting people? I only watch him because a part of me finds it amusing to get upset over trivial things. I mean a guy who travels to Tokyo and then seriously entertains the idea of going to an English pub to eat shouldn't make me as livid as it actually does.

The cigarette machines require a card that a person applies for to verify they are old enough to buy them. You can sometimes find old vending machines in some bars or older cheap motels that have the machines that didn't have any blocks.

About cigarettes vending machines, kids cannot use that. You need to touch a ‘taspo’ card to the card reader on vending machines for age verification (aged 20 or over). If you have chance, try to buy cigarettes from vending machine. You’ll find out that you just cannot without a ‘taspo’ card. To get the card, you need to apply through website with some IDs to prove your age.

You can't buy cigarettes without a card called “TASPO” at the vending machine or your driver’s license, The ID card that says they are adults. This regulation was issued in 2008 to prevent minors from smoking. You need to have a Japanese address to issue a taspo card. I'm getting the impression of a strange country. Neat and tidy, but kind of depressing too. Maybe because there are no real interactions with people? I love those videos in Japan, but youtube is suggesting Gabe's video with the title A crazy adventure in the country of Georgia dating three years ago! I am going to watch it!😁😆

Many indoor places in Japan still require wearing mask, more strict in public transportations.

Japanese parenting can be a one-off too, much like the rest of the country, and it’s peculiarities. It can be based on terrible threats, of Hell-fire dire consequences, made to kids who are perceived to be misbehaving. It also can be based on samurai rituals, such as “You will be thrown into a kettle of boiling water if you keep doing ------“ because in Samurai times, people were routinely boiled alive, for example. Of course, it goes without saying that not all parents threaten their young kids with horrible consequences if they misbehave, but making terrible threats to kids in Japan is not as frowned upon as it is say, in America. Nowadays in America, parenting is soft and kids (more and more) appear to be both indulged and a bit spoilt, in my opinion.

When bald travels he talks to the people. When you travel you speak to no one. Why is that. Just seems odd in that the Japanese are wonderful people. Just thought you should know 😉

Because he's Gabriel and has been traveling his way for more than 20 yrs long before the others. He's the original travel TH-camr and I'm pretty sure he talks to people but chooses not to record it. Shock value for likes isn't a priority, and that's exactly the authentic content many love about him.

You'll see many different sides to the people after living there for a while (both good, and also not so), but as a tourist the general friendly attitude stands out most of the time. "Cuteness" is a thing though, lots of prefectures, towns, shops etc. have their cute mascots, logos etc, even roadwork lane dividers and such are made to look like cute animals.

I understand, so it's OK. But "ry" in ryokan or in Ryuichi Sakamoto is probably among the most difficult sounds for English speakers to pronounce. The two consonants are pronounced in succession like "pf" in Apfel in German or simply like "st" in stop in English. Since it seems you like beef, I recommend you to eat beef tongue (gyu-tan) while you stay in Tohoku especially in Sendai. Enjoy your Riyokan experience.
