@JarrodsTech. Can you please review HP Omen 16 2024 which was very recently released. I am looking to buy an i7 14700HX, RTX 4060 spec of this new Omen series. Online reviews were good about it but there aren't many videos for a perfect review. I am relying on this video for the assumption that the newer model will perform similar to this model in the worst case. But mostly as a newer model, there will be some modifications which will give the newer one an edge. What do you think?
The 180-degree hinge isn't just for sharing, it's also useful when you're on a coach, in a hotel room or in bed (on your knees or on a table next to the bed); it gives you more flexibility overall, such as more room for the controller and keeping the display close (with an upright laptop stand).

The G14 was obviously better on turbo (Time Spy Graphics 16k. vs 12.5k), but not so much in performance mode, where it was very close. The G14 is extremely loud and hot on turbo. Silent on the G14 was WORSE than the Blade 14 with a 4070 on balanced, on a par with Silent. Reason: The G14's GPU wattage drops a lot after turbo, hovering around 55-80W. The Blade 14 tends to stay close to 100W in all modes. This is perfect because you get a much quieter machine. Even compared to my Slim 7 Gen 8, when both are set to balanced or silent, the Blade 14 is quieter and more powerful for GPU-intensive games. I got this exact same laptop since a month and a half, and I'm pretty happy about it, my goal was to upgrade from my MSI g75 leopard with a 2060 and a i7 10750h, and to find something powerfull that is portable an can handle 6h of battery, and it exactly does that, I have bought it with a 800€ discount on hp website in France, and I paid it 1649€ with the 20% french taxes and a hyperxcloud 2 wireless headset in the box, it is a really decent price for this laptop compared to the others with same specs. The laptop is well built, the screen is really great, and it perform well for me, and I don't have the same 80W limitation, in fact, in CP2077 with everything maxed out, the dlss and overdrive enable, I'm closer to 105W than 80.
@@viacheslavspitsyn2995 absolutely not, it's the most quiet laptop I have ever seen ! I can barely ear the fans while gaming to certain games (I have a little cooling pad, it is not that efficient but maybe it help to reduce the sound a bit). My previous laptop was close to 60dba while gaming, this one is closer to 40 on big games like rdr2 or cp2077
It's amazing how the pc can be quiet. For example, when I'm playing cyberpunk 2077 with everithing max an rt overdrive, with no limits to the framerate, the pc isn't audible with a simple headset, and not annoying if playing on speakers sometime it goes up especially while using the photo mode, but it's way better than my previous laptop. My pc is on a little stand so it help a bit but I found it really quiet in the most of the scenario, and even at max speeds the noise of the fan isn't that annoying (max 59db at 20cm of the laptop). The temps are mind blowing compare to my previous laptop and most of the laptops of the market, while doing normal multitasking on my pc it's under 50°C, and in game it never passed over 75 on each component. Another amazing point of this laptop is the battery life, in the lower brightness in eco mode (which is pretty usable btw) the pc can last for 10 hours of note taking and internet browsing (if you shutdown apps like omen light hub and omen gaming hub in the background) at max brightness it's 6h for the same type of workload. @@jonadol

Hey Jarrod, have you checked out the 2023 vivobook pro 16x? it comes with an i9 hx series processor with a 4070 at $1999. Would love to see your review on it.
Jarrod, I'm deciding between the regular Omen 16 & Omen 16 Transcend. Which one do you recommend? Transcend Specs: i9-13900HX RTX 4070 Full Size 4-Zone RGB Keyboard w/ Numpad QHD+ 240Hz Display 2TB SSD Regular Omen 16 Specs: 13700HX RTX 4060 Full Size White Backlight Keyboard w/ Numpad FHD 165Hz 7ms 1TB SSD
No option to stop battery charge past certain % and not getting linux working are the deal breakers for me. I was really considering its bigger cousin with the AMD cpu too.
I had some bad luck with Omen products. I bought an Omen desktop a few years ago and the power supply failed within the first 2 years and then the motherboard failed soon after. I then bought an Omen laptop with a 1660Ti and after a year of ownership it started to crash randomly even after an SSD and OS reinstall and then it eventually died and never turned on. I think HP has some serious quality assurance issues with the Omen series. Also, I used to managed an E-Sports arena and we used all Omen products due to our sponsor and out of 30 Omen gaming desktops, only 24 of them worked.
I mean, when youre playing on them 24/7:365 hours a day there going to wear out faster. Id like to hear about a different brand for comparison put thru those same rigors.
thanks for the review my friend, I got the Envy HP with NVIDIA STUDIO and I9ARCAI touchscreen.. no gaming laptop has touchscreen like this one. I melt of joy when I touch the screen and it responses LOL

Can afford it and just watching and fantasising about owing it
@@jingachaka There's a few reddit threads saying the Slim actually gets super hot, so I avoided it and got the Alienware X16 instead :P Apparently it runs super cool and doesn't feel as heavy as some make it out to be.
NO SCREEN FLASHING BETWEEN THE REFRESH RATE CHANGES!
YESSSS!!!
Do you hear fans during casual usage (e.g. browsing)?
@@viacheslavspitsyn2995 also interested
@@viacheslavspitsyn2995 absolutely not, it's the most quiet laptop I have ever seen !
I can barely ear the fans while gaming to certain games (I have a little cooling pad, it is not that efficient but maybe it help to reduce the sound a bit). My previous laptop was close to 60dba while gaming, this one is closer to 40 on big games like rdr2 or cp2077
I’m also interested. How’s the fan noise?
@@jonadol
Just bought this model with 32gigs of ram open box from Microcenter for $925 it was basically new. I think it was well worth the price. [I7 13700 1440P 240hz 32 GIGS 4070GPU.] Honestly great laptop.
Hi Jarod, did you review the regular HP Omen 16?
HP laptops are my favorite and I have one of them, it's a 2022 HP Omen with an RTX 3070, I love it
Hey Jarrod, have you checked out the 2023 vivobook pro 16x? it comes with an i9 hx series processor with a 4070 at $1999. Would love to see your review on it.
That was literally the video he did prior to this one.
@@saturnotaku the video you are talking about features proart studiobook. It's the premium line of Asus laptops. I am talking about Vivobook pro.
Jarrod, I'm deciding between the regular Omen 16 & Omen 16 Transcend. Which one do you recommend?
Transcend Specs:
i9-13900HX
RTX 4070
Full Size 4-Zone RGB Keyboard w/ Numpad
QHD+ 240Hz Display
2TB SSD
Regular Omen 16 Specs:
13700HX
RTX 4060
Full Size White Backlight Keyboard w/ Numpad
FHD 165Hz 7ms
1TB SSD
Transcend is worth it for the 16:10 screen alone!
No option to stop battery charge past certain % and not getting linux working are the deal breakers for me. I was really considering its bigger cousin with the AMD cpu too.
you can get a acer predator triton 17x for 3k which has a 4090 in it and a mini led screen and is also fairly slim
This is a 2.2kg machine. That Acer is a 3kg machine. Very different type of laptop. There is a significant weight difference.
Hi Jarrod. What gaming laptop do you recommend? 4080 rtx , qhd, 17 inch that will run most games on ultra?
Great review! Do you think we could get a comparison between the RTX 4060 and RTX 3070?
we need a full comparision video for slim laptops.
omen transcent, legion slim 7i, zephyrus g14, blade14, and ALIENWARE X14 R2
Plus the Omen is way more attractive looking ( not subjective )
thanks for the review my friend, I got the Envy HP with NVIDIA STUDIO and I9ARCAI touchscreen.. no gaming laptop has touchscreen like this one. I melt of joy when I touch the screen and it responses LOL
I’d like to call this year’s model the HP U3WO. I’ll show myself out… Joking aside, it maybe a good daily driver, but why the single SSD slot?! Hehehe. Great review Jarrod!
This with AMD CPU instead and GPU limited to very low wattage sounds like a very good slim gaming laptop
I finally got $1000 and have been researching and deciding which UNREGRETTABLE laptop should i buy. For weeks i've been seeing lots of Jarrods videos waiting for new updates. I'm more into creativity works and gaming. I decide to go for Asus Tuf but oudated vram poor display under $1000. Lenovo but thermal problem, good display but poor vram , Acer but poor plastic body. Am so confuse!
Lenovo LOQ doesnt have thermal issues. Ik this is a lil too late for this 😅

Thanks a lot. The video helped me buy an hp omen 16 13700hx 32ram 4070rtx because it was on a great discount.
Hows the temperature of cpu and gpu, i heard u can't undervolt , locked by hp 🤔
i have the i9 13900hx version of this i feel like this is the best as ive gone thru 3 different laptop the bestbuy employee even started to wonder why i keep returning laptops after a week.. i ended up returning this for a zephyrus and then going back to this.. the only thing i didnt like is not having an extra M.2 slot. and not a lot offer a 5600mhz on laptop.
So what needed up happening ? Hoping to buy a laptop by the end of the year. Did you stay with this or did you trade this one in again?
the other day i asked for a review of the omen 16, im gonna guess this is a coincidence that a review of a similar laptop has dropped, btw how similar is the laptop to the usual omen 16?
edit: just watched the bit where you compare it to the usual omen 16. would you reccomend the usual omen 16 after seeing thjis laptop?
If I'm asked to trade 1 M.2 slot for no soldered RAM, I'll gladly accept the trade-off. The only thing is , why HP has to skimp on the heatsink of the PCH, I can see the exposed die 4:15
thanks dude for including rx 6800m datas in that comparison.........U DESERVE THE VIEWS
from all of the slims you've reviewed this 2023, which is your most fave Jarrod?? (Zephyrus, Legion Slim, Omen Transcend, Predator Triton)
Jarrod, I have a question. I have an acer nitro 5 and im planning on buying an external monitor for it. Now, my specs are i7 12th gen and rtx 3060. My question is, if i do get an external monitor with a 144hz screen, will my laptop be able to output 144hz to that screen via a normal hdmi?
@JarrodsTech Thank you for the review! I Can buy in Germany, right now, this Laptop in the configuration you have testes, with the IPS Panel and 16gb RAM, for about 1.300€ (about 1400$). The is a configuration with an oled Display and 32gb Ram, and it costs about 1.900€ (About 2.000$). I only have OLED TVs and Monitors at home, but I will most of the times use the Laptop on Daylight. What do u think? Is the Oled one the extra money worth?
Omg that fingerprint magnet :P 3:57
Hi. Please, help me. Which the best for gaming?
$1199,00 for HP Omen 16 Transcend i7-13700HX, RTX 4070, 16gb DDR-4800, 512gb SSD, 230w charge.
OR
$1149,00 for Lenovo Legion Pro 5i i7-13700HX, RTX 4060, 32gb DDR-4800, 1tb SSD, 300w charge??
Tks.
They could have just update the Omen 16 to 16:10 and add number pad and better cooling.
HP is so far behind Lenovo it’s not even in the game
IS THIS TRANS OMEN BETTER OR AW M16 R1 ? PLEASE YOUR ADVICE
When will you review the Gigabyte Aorus 15?
It's one of the most affordable gaming laptops today, and it looks nice too.
BTW, the reason you didn't notice a 97 wh battery option is because it belongs to a different model - 16-u0097nr.
can you also do a hp omen 17 2023 review? i liked this.
I am really happy I got last year hp omen 16, is has a great screen 3070 and a intel i712700h. I did pay 740 bucks for a new one and I really encourage everyone to buy the 30 series nividia GPU because they just are as good as the newer GPU models.
DLSS and Frame Generation
Is it a membrane or mechanical keyboard?
Hey Jarrod, I have a question. I am getting the HP Omen 16 z xf model and in the pictures it looks just like this Transcend but with the only difference being the 16 by 9 panel. My question is, does it have 2 M.2 slots because there is no video out there that has that specific Omen 16 I am ordering
Waiting for your review of the 7940HS Jarrod.
I was aiming to get Legion 7i Slim with 4070, but now only avialable with 4060
I just got this laptop and the battery life is insanely poor.
What’s it like
Do you have Intel or ryzen CPU?
Yeah because the specs are crazy but did u do any battery optimizations?
U do know it will run at 240hz no matter what even if turn ECO on until you turn Optimus on/off.
Still no elaboration? Not even any indications of your particular SKU so people may have a better idea of what to expect from that one specifically?
The Rtx 4070 version was on sale for $1199, I was tempted.. but I really want a Lenovo legion slim 7 amd version
Sry buy from 300 nits peak( normal omen 16) to 110 is a massive improvement of the monitor, it’s totally another level of machine.
What is the graphics output of TB4 of HP 16 Omen ( not Transcend Series)?? Is it iGPU or dGPU or hybrid mode??
the latest tuf weigh almost the same right?n they didnt even use the light gaming term, while being cheaper. I expect expensive light gaming laptop should be less than 2kg like the zephyrus.
manufacturers fail to understand that consumers don't care about nor ever wanted slim. 14 year old laptops were as slim as they needed to be. We want quality keyboards and stuff in these things instead
Interesting with the linux problem.. i have omen 16 with ryzen 5800h and rtx 3070 and I have dual boot with windows 10 + Pop!_OS
which one wins Omen transcend ya Lenovo legion ?
The cost is not being available in Australia after several months of its release in the US. C'mon HP, you give our fav aussie here a unit for review but its still not on sale for rest!!
That's because I had to go to HP US to get any HP. The Australian team never send anything.
Lenovo Legion Slim 5 or 5i next please !!!
It's 16:10 but still has a massive chin... So bigger chassis instead of using existing space?
Great in depth review as always. Thank you.
Currently have a razer blade 15 rtx 3070 and looking at this omen or the lenovo legion slim 7i so your guides help

Hoping to get one soon.
The advanced optimus changing feature(which shows panel and icon on taskbar for easy switch) can be switched on from nvidia control panel for any nvidia advanced optimus supported latop.
I have mine turned on for my predator helios 16
Where? I haven't seen it. Still though, it's not my point. My main point is that a new user doesn't know what AO is (we get asked a LOT in comments), so it is preferable to have a shortcut/brief explainer tool tip in the laptop's control center software. Most people don't delve into Nvidia cp.
@@JarrodsTech True that a new user won’t even know about that and will post a short video soon .On how to enable it from
@@JarrodsTech Yeah, all Omen is doing is opening the Nividia tooltip from the taskbar. I could open it with the Lenovo as well.
I rather use the built in feature in the Lenovo Slim 7 Gen 8 though (why did you say it doesn't have that feature? Didn't understand it).
im so glad i got the m16 the best laptop ever.
Good content 👍🏻 can you make a review for Omen 17.3" 2023?
I should have an Omen 17 coming hopefully.
Why are you complaining about the upgradability, when most laptops today have ream soudered on, and not upgradebale. it is refresthing to see there is upgreadeable ram.

Nope. The 13700 is way too OP for a 4060. You can find 13700s paired with 4080s. It's only worth it if you do video editing or something that needs the extra CPU power
How much cost
Why would I care about thinness, seeing that runaway under the screen? Why won't more laptops look like Dell XPS with it's nearly border to border screen design? :S
