I worked at a Gold Mine near UB for the summer! Fell in love with the people there! Reminded me of my life in Alaska! If I did not have obligations in the States I would have stayed! Warm people that speak from their heart! Met some of the prettiest women I have ever known, with mix of Russian and Asian! Most spectacular red head I ever met playing basketball, that was a real treat!

I must say that I am soooo surprised to see that veggies and fruit prices are sooo much higher than in most Central and East European capitals. Maybe because it is out of season?

Great videos! I would like to suggest the following content:
1. Monthly cost of living in UB (these are often very popular videos on TH-cam).
2. Borders - are they open yet?
3. Term deposits or time deposits in banks in Mongolia; the interest rates seem very, very high and I am wondering if they would be good investments for foreigners.
4. Air quality and other environmental matters.
5. Maybe cover the pandemic situation?

I worked in Ulaanbaatar in 2013 ... looks like everyone is driving and parking a little better .. that was a huge shock coming from the states...I really enjoyed being there and thought it was just an amazing place with great hard working people .. its fun to see the town again.. thank you and take care

Housing,fuel,expenses for utilities. I live in southern Arizona,USA. Inflation has really hurt our fixed income
Groceries seem very expensive. I can get a a pound of fuji apples for 69 cents at my local market and strawberries 2 pounds for a 1 dollar. I live in Arizona, farmers markets sometimes help with the cost of groceries.
Wonderful insight into Mongolian life! The average grocery bill I would say is quite expensive and probably 4-8 times the cost that these products cost in India!
I'm planning to settle down to Ulaanbaatar at the end of this year(if covid let me do this of course) and this type of videos are awesome for me. Keep them coming!

Mongolia is a really great country. Once you are outside the hectic city of Ulaanbaatar, things are a lot slower. I love the place and wouldn't mind living there except that I'm Jamaican and i don't like the cold. Mongolian winters can get to -40 (it's the same Celsius or Fahrenheit) of lower. Just spent the summer there and did a few vidoes of my visit. Did you end up moving there?
Thank you for the price conversion ! I live in California, and it seems that Mongolian grocery prices are more expensive than California, especially fruits. I am really curious at what the wages and other costs of living in Mongolia are.
Most fruits are imported from China and beyond. So the price of fruits and various vegetables are little pricier than most countries. Thanks to our harsh weather, there is only small amount of time farmers can grow basic vegies like potato, carrot and such. Median income varies depending on the sector that they are working for. I would say 3 to 4thousand USD a year. Of course some people would earn as good as you would be in the US. But that would be small portion of the population.
@@galsaa0705 I don't think US$3-4 K /year can afford such produce's price. Even the meat costs about the same as in US. You'd think being huge in grazing land will provide UB with tons of cheap meat. But then again she drives around in Lexus so she could be the 10% there and shopping at high end place?
I live in Moscow, but often visit California; I've been to Mongolia 10 times. In principle, I can compare the standard of living. If in California (the richest state) the standard of living is approximately comparable to Moscow and the Moscow region, then in Mongolia everything is much worse. Mongolia is a very poor country that practically cannot feed its population. The vast pastures mentioned here are a myth. No grass, no bushes, no trees - there is no water for all this. There are also few mineral resources for industrial development. I don't know how they live. Mongolia is 4 times the size of California, but only 3.5 million people live there (California has 39.3 million). Mongolia is a very cold country. Living in Mongolia is difficult.

Ненадо говорить не правду о том что уровень жизни в Москве и в Московской области примерно на одном уровне с Калифорнией. В Калифорнии я тоже бываю часто. В Москве и в Московской области и вообще по всей России уровень жизни очень низкий если ты не работаеш в силовых структурах в МВД или в Следственном комитете, в, прокуратуре, в судах или в гос учреждениях чиновником.И еще могут более менее зарабатывать частный бизнес а остальные, подавляющие больщинство населенеие живут впроглод от зарплаты до зарплаты, денег нина что не хватают. Заработная плата в России даже в Москве одни из самых низких среди больщых стран. На сегодня в Москве в средрем зарабатывают 40-50-60тысяч руб(Это всего лишь 650-670us. dollar) . Это максимум, но в официальных отчетах в наглую врут пишут средный заработок 80-90тыс.Пенсионеиы в России самый нищий слой, средная пенсия даже в Москве 12-15тыс максимум 23-25тыс руб. Многим пенсионерам пенсии не хватает и они вынуждены роются в мусорных контейнерах в поисказ пустых бутылок, и дерутся у супер маркетов за просроченные выброщенные продуктов питание. В Монголия входит в число в первую 15стран самых бонатых по природным богатствам. И средный монгол живет ничуть не хуже а то и лучще чем Российский обыватель. У монгол семьи больщые, в сркднем 3-4ребенка в семье и старики уж живут гораздо счастливее своего Российского аналого пенсионеров. В Монголии не бывает брощенных стариков, все старики живут в семьях у своих детей, нянчутся с внуками. В монгольской культуре издревле принято больщые семьи, и старики живут всегда вместе с детьми и с внуками.

Groceries seem more expensive than in the Netherlands. UB is a nice city. Hopefully oneday i could visit UB. Thanks for sharing this video.
I’m still in shock after 4 years that fruits cost more than prime cut of meat. I must have spent 150k tugrug (40gbp) on few berries, apples, oranges, grapes and bananas. The same would have cost about £15 in the UK. Nevertheless you learn to eat seasonally in Mongolia. Can’t wait to go back to Mongolia again next year.
Yeah, fruits and little fancy vegetables are bloody expensive there.

Thank you for visiting our country and our capital, hope you are getting used to our harsh climate :P Anyways it's quite easy to find a job as a teacher or a translator if you learn decent Mongolian. But tbh I don't think Mongolia is the best country to start a living but if it works for you then it's fine! Thank you for reading this if you are, that's all the advices I can really think of. Hi, Khalium. I'll be moving to UB this October for an International Cooperation project. I'm wondering how is the life in UB. So your vidio is very useful to know the real life in UB. Thank you. It's good to know that I can get vege, fruits etc at a supermarket. I was told that Mongolian doesn't eat vege or fruits much. I'd like to know what kind of cosmetic products are available there. In the video, you showed foreign made cosmetic products. Probably I don't need to bring from Japan.

Very well taken videos. The breakfast was western. What is typical Mongolian breakfast? Things that Mongolians do differently fr other countries would be interesting content.
Are the prices shown in U.S. dollars? If so, Mongolia is an expensive place to live in. But, the video covered just the super market. Would have been nicle to show Ulan Baatar city.
I'll be going there in June and staying for about 3 months im so excited I love UB I was there a couple of years ago and loved every min.
For me this is heartbreaking to see---These beautiful humble people learning all the woes of Westernization with new found pride, smugness, arrogance etc. They think they are enjoying the vain emptiness of living in the fast lane. I spent a year in a flat in UB but spent much of my time out of the city and with the real down to earth people out in the countryside. All over the world you find so many trying to ditch the phony plastic ways of life and get back to a more humble way of living like the Mongolian tent dwellers---So sad seeing this.

Very expensive fruits and vegetables by any standards! Everything else great.
The same stuff also happens in Bogota like traffic is very horrendous and it was 1 and a half hours to go to a place that is regularly 20 min long.
Is Ulaanbaatar worth visiting if you are interested in city living?

Hi Khaliun! fruit is quite expensive compared to the prices in my country. For example here you can get half a watermelon for 1.5 $ or sometimes less. Prices for veggies and meat are similar. Also it has been very fun to see you have a building which has an identical shape to one we have in Barcelona, Spain.
i think she just missed about the price, half of watermelon 5600 tugrug in Mongolia it's mean around $2.
@@khuslen2046 I was thinking that is expensive, I was there this past summer (2022) and I don't recall it being that high. I also has watermelon that were grown locally, much smaller than those in this market. We also visited this store and a lot of the things here are imported, which is why they are priced higher.

There are plenty of elementary and high schools for english speaking kids. Some of them are british school of ulaanbaatar, international school of ulaanbaatar, Orchlon international school etc. You can visit their website and get more information. Welcome to UB 😇
Het is echt duur daar in internationale scholen. En het verkeer is niet veilig voor kinderen. Moet je altijd hun zelf brengen en ophalen!
@@baconsans431 De scholen zijn van goede kwaliteit. Je moet het zien als een investering in je kinderen hun toekomst. Ook zijn er schoolbussen via de school. En ook warme maaltijden.
